Will it still take 4 mins to get into the game?

It takes 4m or so to get into the game. Will Asobo cut this down to half possibly? I’m on SX and it’s kiiinda getting on my nerves waiting so long to get into the game. I don’t think even RDR 2 took this long to get into on the Xbox One X.

More than 10 minutes for me on PC.
They manage all dlcs with tons of flat files. Impossible to speed up.

If they just got rid of the “press any key to start” screen - at least we could go get a coffee…

The more addons I install, the longer it takes.
Why are they even loaded upon starting the game.
Scenery and aircraft should only be loaded if they are used.

The dlc management doesnt even take long, try switching off online data and restart the sim, it will load much faster, the long loading times are due to all the scenery/photogrammetry that has to be downloaded/prepared from the cloud

Why would it load photogrammetry/scenery before a flight is planned - what would it download if it does not know where you want to go?

It is unbelievable how long it takes to load a flight with a new aircraft.
When i look at my diskdrive datastream it are little peaces of date that are loaded for minutes long. Also when loading a flight with the same aircraft a second time i find the loading time still to long.

This is getting silly. Asobo has to do something to optimise the time it takes to get into the game. Feels like the game is loading off a SNES cartridge!

I’ve no paid add-ons installed, apart from two fighter jets. Time it takes to get to the main screen is ridiculous. Want to spend more time flying and less time looking at loading screens for crying out loud!!

Edit: Embarrassingly, I just realized games loaded much faster off a cartridge

To be honest if I am starting a flight of more than thirty minutes I find four minutes to be irrelevant.

They did for the PC version, before the console version was released. For console they decided to bring it back again for some reason.

Believe me it was a battle trying not get rid of that useless element. There was a lot of push back behind the scenes I think.

You are absolutely right, my bad

Long load times … so how many of the optional world updates and POIs do you have installed?

All of them … how often is that really a need?

It has to load that big round thing you spin around and plan your flight on.

I just timed my startup on PC without mods, 54 seconds.

Another 48 seconds from hitting fly to on the ground @ JFK with the 320NEO

Oddly low power mode does not speed it up.

I do not believe personally that Asobo “has” to do anything. If you “wish” for a faster load time, submit an entry in to the “Wishlist” category on this forum and people can vote. That is the main way we are heard. I’m pretty sure that there already is a wishlist item for this, but a search will tell you.

By the way, when a new plane is selected for the first time, there is a lot of work to do, the main part being compiling, depending on how the plane is implemented. I don’t know the details, but I saw a post from PMDG that explained this. It should load faster subsequently.

Thanks. --Redeye

Thanks. I’ll just live with it for now. Make coffee. Check my FB or whatever while it loads.

Yes, it takes about 4 minutes to load up on my PC too and that’s with an SSD and very few addons.

I’m pretty happy with that though tbh as my previous sim, XPlane 11, with its bucket load of its addons took around 10 minutes or more to launch :slightly_smiling_face:

Now it would be interesting to know:

  • What kind of SSD?
  • What kind of motherboard?
  • Driver version?
  • BIOS version?

An SSD can be fast, but it can be slow as well.

From memory:

  • Samsung 980 pro (2 tb)
  • MSI Z270 pro
  • Nvidia driver (can’t recall version tbh but it’s about 3 mths old)
-BIOS is the original one provided with this (now quite old) MB

Not the fastest combination.
So I would say 4 minutes is a normal time for your silicium.

Loading time is long the first time you load a new scenery or a new aircraft.
The second time it takes much shorter.

I have a two Samsung SSD 980 Pro 1TB and they are extreem fast when i benchmark them.

But still i like a shorter loading time of MSFS especially when i go from one aircraft to another.
It’s absurd that the loading time take so long when switching between aircraft.

Yes, probably but my main observation was that the launch time for XPlane 11 was at least twice that of the launch time for FS20 so that in this respect I am personally reasonably happy with this particular aspect of FS20 :slightly_smiling_face:
