Will MSFS Flight Planner become available for MSFS 2020?

I’ve got a wish… I really like the flight planner (Flight Planner) for MSFS2024, BUT I use MSFS2020.

So, can the developers please make it work for MSFS 2020? THAT would be a most awesome addition for MSFS 2020.

As a 2020 user who doesn’t have 2024, what is the difference? You have me curious.

Check it out: Flight Planner

I would be very shocked if this happened. When you make a new product and add features to attract users of the old product, it doesn’t make much sense to port them to the old product and discourage moving to the new one. Microsoft has already gone against conventional practices by doing this with World Updates, though, so I guess anything’s possible.

That didn’t help at all. When I click the link I get a page saying that you will have access if you have 2024 already. I would like to know what the differences are between the flight planners in 2020 and 2024. I mostly don’t use the flight planner in the Sim and I use either little navmap or simbrief dispatch (both free). But I am very curious about it.

What is better about the flight planner in 2024?

It is a full fledged flight planning SW (with Lido charts for airports and airspace informations, etc, …) from which you can access either via the linked webpage or in game via the integrated EFB. The planning tool in MSFS2020 is very very rudementary in comparison to this one.
The webpage also integrates fully in the sim: you can plan your flight on any computer you have internet access and store the plan online → it is immediatly accessible in the sim via the EFB.

Edit, for more information you can see for example: MSFS 2024 Flight Planning and website

Try this:

Flight Planner

No amount of different links will change the fact that you cannot access the MSFS 2024 flight planner without owning or having access to MSFS 2024.

For my part, I don’t use it because I have a Navigraph subscription, which I prefer as I prefer Jepp charts. If I didn’t have a Navigraph subscription, I would use the Flight Planner in conjunction with SimBrief, depending on the type of flight, GA or Airliner. The Flight Planner has come a long way since 2024 launched, and it gives one access to LIDO charts, which many airliner pilots use.

Since you are asking, wondering what keeps you in 2020, now that 24 has gotten so good?

Hey @Zadma, I just asked if they could make an adjustment to the code so that we can import THAT flight plan into MSFS 2020.

My PC CAN’T run MSFS2024, so I was just wondering… why not?

After all, Asobo (i.e. Jorg) did promise that much of MSFS 2024 scenery would eventually become available in MSFS 2020… so why not ask? The Flight Planner is web-based and not game-specific, as I see it, so why not make it available to us who have been left behind?

Are you limited to DX11, or why can’t your PC run MSFS2024? When it can run 2020 it can run 2024. I would assume even a lot better due to the improvements and optimizations 2024 got in comparison to 2020.
The only limiting factor would be if you are forced to use DX11, although i have read that one can force MSFS2024 also to DX11 (but I have no idea how and how stable the outcome might be).

Ahh, I’m sorry - I fully misunderstood your request. Part of the Flight Planner includes integration into an all new EFB which then also integrates into aircraft avionics (if properly configured) and that is quite a bit of work to ask to back-port to the “old” sim. However, asking for access to planner.flightsimulator.com with ownership of MSFS (2020) is more reasonable - though I do still think unlikely, personally.

Best of luck!

Personal Comments and Observations

I’d honestly use Little Nav Map instead. It easily and properly exports a 2020 file everytime, all the time. It’s stunning how much work Alex Albar has put into this Freeware - it is Payware quality and more.

It does a much better job UI and function wise than Flight Planner. I’ve been using LNM extensively even though I’ve had access to Navigraph since about 2021 - LNM works well with either Navblue (the old MS Navdata provider), the current Lufthansa/LIDO or Navigraph for Navdata providers.

So much easier to read and generate a flight plan. And I even have access to a Vertical Situation Display. Plus the VFR maps overlay is awesome.

Sim brief , Little Nav Map , Navigraph charts and in flight sim to had some flight planers..

Good question….

What keeps me in 2020 is that it runs incredibly smooth, i have purchased lots of scenery/airports, a few aircraft, some of which are not compatble, and I don’t look forward to setting up all my controls again.

I don’t care about carreer mode or walking around so what would l gain switching to 2024?

Good answer, neither do I. For my part, 24 now runs super smooth on my set-up, the flight model is superior, and I have most/all the DLC aircraft models and airports I need to be on my way in 24, with more coming over all the time now. True setting up hardware is a thankless chore, but it is also the opportunity to make changes, improvements and tweaks over what one knows works, so it has been an interesting year but my set-up is much better for it (and I still have 2020 installed, just in case). Anyway back on topic. Little Nav Map was a good suggestion, although I have no experience with it.

@WildTapestry269 I have a mid-range PC and a reasonable-to-slow internet connection. Believe me, I’ve tried MSFS2024… and it just chugs along like a Charlie Chaplin movie. On top of that, the cost of having to upgrade the PC just for MSFS 2024 doesn’t make sense. So, unfortunately, I have to stick with the 2020 version :expressionless_face: BUT I still have fun and I can fly around the world and visit places I’ve never been to.

Skyvector here is another flight planner I find useful. Works with FS20, not sure about FS24.

SkyVector doesn’t really “work” with any simulator, correct? It’s a real-world aviation resource.

Zadma:

Correct, it is a good resource for real world aviation. The graphics and user interface for flight planning is what I find useful, example here. To be honest, all I use it for is to build a route of connecting waypoints then copy and paste them into Little NavMap. Then save to FS20
