Wind too hard

You may find these interesting reading. Essentially what I found in 2020 was that Asobo had “baked in” this fake gusting behaviour, and it didn’t matter the wind strength as it was always present, right down to calm winds. Lower the graph range far enough, and the same identified pattern is present. The pattern has changed in 2024, but it is still there. My tests with ActiveSky were a real eye opener. Gone were some of the visual aritifacts, and crosswind landings were quite predictable, and even pleasant!

I’m happy to repeat these tests from scratch in 2024, in the new SU2 beta.

One of the other things they got wrong, from memory was winds aloft. Instead of taking the wind at ground level, and then doubling it, they took the winds aloft, and halved it at ground level. There is a setting in ActiveSky to counter this behaviour.

If you haven’t tried it its well worth a look. It doesn’t currently work in SU2 Beta sadly, but I believe 1.4.13 has implemented a code change to support it, the devs may need to implemement a change at their end to support it.

I’d love to know your comments as real world pilots on what you think of the differences between Asobo, and ASFS weather.

Sadly I don’t think the latter can be used in Career Mode, if that is the focus for MSFS use.
