Windows 11 22H2 update - do not install yet

I initially had a scheduled task in set to run a bat script at boot up with a command inside to turn off the HolographicShell.

I found it only worked some of the time and reason was, for me anyways, the HolographicShell doesn’t even show up if my headset is off. It’s only when I activate it, that the shell appears. So now I resorted to just running the bat script myself after I plug in my headset and make sure the bat script doesn’t light up red with an error that there’s no such thing as HolographicShell.

I found this, it may help I guess:

Thanks. Yeah that logman command does the trick. But if the headset isnt yet connected/started, logman reports there’s no trace called HolograohicShell. Microsoft must only make it appear when a WMR headset is connected and remove it once the headset is switched off.

Installed 22h2 yesterday no issues seems to be running good, don’t use experience app giving game ready driver another try as had previously gone back to studio driver so far seems fine.

I have been 22h2 for 10 days and have never had a problem or a single loss of performance. Works perfectly well. Windows updates checked.

What i found that worked for me with the reverb g2 was disabling the holographic shell and that brought back everything to normal again

Upgraded a couple of days ago to 22H2 and VR with the G2 took a major hit. Rolled back to 21H2, smooth as butter. Have all the latest drivers too

Intel(R) Core™ i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz 3.20 GHz
32GB RAM
RTX 3080ti
HP G2

THE FIX (for me):
Upgraded again to 22H2 and loaded a new nVidia driver from 517.48 to 522.25, couldn’t find the HolographicShell, fired on FS2020 in VR and smooth as butter again!

Did you do the various VR fixes including turning off the holoshell thing?

Will give that a try tonight, work for you?

Worked for me on Odyssey +.

Can’t confirm. I did the same as you described, but for me the holographic shell is still there. I need to manually kill it to get a smooth VR experience. I wonder what makes the difference here…

Interesting, do you have the HP G2?? I looked for the HolographicShell before I launch VR, and with FS2020 in VR, not found…

Yep, HP G2.

Also updated again and still have the stuttering problem. Don’t mind running the little batch file to turn off the Holographic shell but can’t figure out why some people have no problem and others do.

I never got as far as testing FS2020, because one of the first things I do after installing a Windows 11 feature update is to restore the Windows 10 full ribbon in File Explorer by using a well-known registry hack.

Unfortunately, 22H2 ignores that hack and there appears to be no workaround.

So, I rolled back to 21H2.

I suppose the Win11 design team’s design model is “Why would they ever want to use 1 click to complete a job when 3 or 4 clicks will do?”

For me this HolographicShell comes up every 3 to 4 days that i still have to disable to get smooth VR preformance…Cant make out why it dont show on every boot up of my PC

Off by default for me so I think there will be a bios setting for this.

For me it’s every time I power on my headset. That’s the pattern I noticed anyways.

Makes sense, I have onboard audo disabled in bios, everything runs through HDMI instead
