Windows 11 22H2 update - do not install yet

I just got offered the update in windows update, is it safe to install in its current state or are there still issues?

I say yes, others say no so take your pick?

ā€œSafe?ā€ Well it’s not going to blow your computer up. Just install it and see for yourself whether it works on your system. We can’t tell you if it will or not as everybody’s system is different. Personally, I have the latest Win 11 update and I’ve had no issues with it. Well, no more issues than I had with Win10 that is.

I made all the updates for Win 11 and nvidia, and everything is OK for me
now I m just waiting for the real DX12 from Asobo (not the beta…the real one…)

Could you share (for those of us not tecky) your bat file?

Problem fixed for HolographicShell if you read 2 post above your.

There is the .bat file. As above, I think it has been fixed properly in dev channel but I can’t test until it comes to beta build.

This is not related HolographicShell bug but I also find another issue with win 11 and reported to the feedback hub https://aka.ms/AAi8717

To check GPU usages of apps, please do the steps below

  1. Open task manger (ctrl shift esc)
  2. Click processes
  3. Right click on any column title
  4. Select GPU

Now you can see gpu usages and can find another issues.

To see the performance issue that I am facing:

  1. Open the task manager
  2. Launch msfs in 2d mode
  3. While flying in 2d, start vr mode
  4. After a few seconds, stop vr mode
  5. Check task manager especially ā€œdesktop window managerā€

It is using 99% of gpu and this is killing everything until you switch back to the vr mode. I wasn’t aware this until I made visible the GPU column in taskbar.

For this issue I formatted my pc then made a clean install, updated everything but no luck. Maybe this can also effect yours performance. This is a related topic: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/high-gpu-with-desktop-window-manager/509094

11 22H2… updating from windows 10 was the best thing I have done yet.
After the last beta update using windows 10…I tried everything…its was a snail speed slug…then I updated to 11 22H2… WOW What a difference!

Zero issues… well the wind is crazy lately with real weather selected…and the clouds even on full ultra have that ā€œpixelsā€ look to them… but otherwise it’s running like a rocket!

Running msfs beta 11 ULTRA
i7 12700k liquid cooled.
High end 12th gen mobo
RTX3080
Dx12 Beta
32gb ram.

3 55" 4k Samsung monitors (center monitor 8k capable Q7)
2 Wimaxit touchscreens Running air manager (Plugable HDMI/USB)
1 27" DELL (For pilot2atc…etc)
All monitors set at max resolution
Rendering screens and main screen 55" set maximum resolution

Without G1000’s popped out 50 plus fps average…on the ground
WITH the g1000’s popped out…88 fps avg! YES your reading this correct… the frame rates go UP with the pop outs. I can’t believe it also! Yes the RTX3080 is running 90% plus… but I’m rigged for it heat wise.
Corsair 5000 airflow case
13 fans total
360mm rad 6 fans push/ pull exhaust on top
6 front, front rh side intake air
1 rear exhaust
Never gets 10c above ambient room temp…even during benchmark testing.

Good news…enjoy !

Doesn’t the fps go up because its reading the fps of the pop out?

I have always seen a dramatic drop in frame rates when popping out…so much that I gave up and have been using air manager instruments. I will do a test in developers mode and reply with results. All I know is that I can finally fly and not get the stops and jumps and see full ultra. I used to lower the graphics when I did instrument practice on my computer but I can finally leave the settings alone and get a great practice in. It’s definitely easier practicing holding patterns with the g1000 in front of you. Makes my trips to fly with a CFII a whole lot easier.

Are you sure non of your settings have changed?

I used pop out G3000 windows and it reduced FPS by around 10.

Win11, 3070, i5-10600K, 32GB, 2K screen, settings mostly HIGH, clouds ULTRA.

I use this free tiny little software that shows GPU temp in the notification area on the second screen. Its accurate (cross checked with HWInfo)

@C182golf , I’d never leave the house with a setup like that  Very nice.

Cant agree with this enough. Do not touch this with a barge pole. Also for those who do a fresh GFE install the thing sometimes auto-optimizes all your games so be sure to dive in there and turn it off! Absolute joke this ā€œoptimizationā€.

FWIW, I installed GPU Temp and its reported temperature exactly matched the temp reported by the Performance page in Win11 Task Manager before, during, and after running FS2020.

Agreed. I find the same as you.

This was a problem about a month ago, check the date on that article, 9/23. But I have update to 22H2 and actually saw a pretty noticeable performance increase. Like VR framerates seem butter smooth where I had some tearing prior. Of course I’m not running a toaster so I might be biased with a 12900k, 64GB DDR5 and RTX 3090ti but I am pretty sure the performance is better with 22H2.

Something that has worked for me in the past when my OS seems janky is to do a repair install. Go here https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11, download the iso, mount it, run the installer as an upgrade, this will repair your installation of windows and will often fix most problems you are having. After the repair install check windows update for optional updates, these are usually drivers for your system and can also help if you have some outdated drivers.

I’ve gone back and forth between Win 10 and 11 so many times and I’ve always felt the sim runs smoother on 10. I currently have 11 22H2 installed but there are still too many bugs for it to be a trust worthy OS. Just the other day I was copying 60gb to a hard drive and halfway through the copy the window just disappeared. I went to see how big the files were on the hard drive and it was only 30 something gb. I can’t trust an OS like that. It’s not the first time it’s happened to me either. And in the media player I was removing a file from the recents. Well the thing actually deleted it. It wasn’t in my recycle bin. It was nowhere to be found. Way too many bugs. I try to like it but keep going back to 10 because it’s reliable.

I actually know the issue you are talking about I think. I saw this issue with a folder connected to one drive, it would stop copying at random intervals, specifically with a very large 120gb transfer. This was actually on windows 10 btw. I got around it by copying to the root of the drive instead of a folder contained in one drive. Then I was able to cut paste to the other directory, but it seems one drive has been having issues with huge changes lately.
