Windows Update borked my computer, now can't install MSFS after clean install (error 0x803FB107 yet again...)

Bought the Microsoft Store version of Premium Deluxe a little over a month ago. Two weeks ago, Windows Update KB5003637 crashed my system to a BSOD and, when Windows attempted to undo the update, left me with a seriously corrupted install with, among other things, no audio. After several days back and forth with Microsoft Tech Support, they told me my only option left was a complete “clean install” of Windows, including formatting the boot drive and starting from scratch. I did so, and am now trying to reinstall MSFS.

I go to the Windows Store, which tells me, indeed, that I own the Premium Deluxe bundle. I click on the “install” button, tell it to install to my C: drive, and…get an error, with “Code: 0x803FB107” – when I go to my “Downloads and updates” screen, I see it’s trying to install three items: a package marked "Microsoft Flight Simulator: Premium Deluxe (which displays the 0x803FB107 error), and, below that, two sub-downloads: “Digital Ownership” (error 0x80070424) and “Microsoft Flight Simulator” (error 0x80070424 again). The first says to wait and they’ll try to reinstall it (although I see nothing happening), while the other two suggest reporting the issue, but otherwise tell me I should wait and try again later, or try restarting my device.

Keep in mind, this is on a brand new clean install.

Looking over both this forum and the Microsoft help forums, I’ve seen this come up a few times, with the discussions eventually petering out and being closed without a resolution. Some people have tried WSreset with success (tried it, it didn’t work) or updating their Xbox App and Xbox Game Bar (ditto and ditto), but I haven’t found a fix that seems to work for most people posting about it.

Has there been anything more found about this issue, and a workaround for it? Keep in mind, I just reformatted my drive and reinstalled the latest version of Windows from scratch. What else can I do beyond that, except for building a whole new machine? I’m really at a loss here.

Update system via windows update to ver 21H1 - also check optional updates.
Also update all apps via ms store app.

edit
Try Re-install ms store app

Code: 0x803FB107 - Google Search Quite a few ways to maybe help resolve your issue.

Make sure you also update your XBOX app for Windows 10.
MSFS should also be in your apps, and may need updating there.

The clean install was to 21H1, and included the optional updates. I also updated all apps beforehand.

I already updated the Xbox apps. Yes, MSFS is “in my apps” in the Xbox app, but trying to install from there, just as from the Windows Store, gives the same error result.

Make sure you have the DIGITAL OWNERSHIP for MSFS installed. It should be in your list of games you own.

New update available - KB5003690

We fixed an issue in a small subset of users that have lower than expected performance in games after installing KB5000842 or later.

  • We fixed an issue that might redirect you to the Microsoft Store page for Gaming Services when you try to install or start an Xbox Game Pass game on your Windows 10 device. Additionally, you receive error 0x80073D26 or 0x8007139F. For more information, see KB5004327.

We fixed an issue that might cause a high-pitched noise or squeak in certain apps when you play 5.1 Dolby Digital audio using certain audio devices and Windows settings.

This update includes the following improvements

  • We fixed an issue in Adamsync.exe that affects the syncing of large Active Directory subtrees.

  • We fixed an error that occurs when the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) bind cache is full, and the LDAP client library receives a referral.

  • We fixed a redirector stop error that is caused by a race condition that occurs when the system deletes binding objects when connections close.

  • We fixed an issue that might prevent End User Defined Characters (EUDC) from printing correctly because of font fallback settings.

Have this issue as well. For background, I went to update MSFS on Saturday, hadn’t got the newest update for a couple weeks. Couldn’t update, would just keep taking me to the game services install page. Reset XBox app, store app, even uninstalled all game pass games, trying to get something to install. Sunday spent chatting with XBox help, ended up doing a full reinstall of windows.

Now I’m on a clean install, logged into XBox app and right away I got the Code: 0x803fb107. Ran throught the list of things to do that the rep had given me again, still not able to install Flight Sim. I tried another game in the XBox library, installed without issues.

Anyone have a glimmer of something new to look at?

Follow-up: Left everything alone overnight, came back to the problem this morning, XBox App said ready to play. I tried running it, was in the loop of needing a store update. Uninstalled what it had started, rebooted, and now it’s installing. I know it’s not much help to anyone, because the problem seemed to “fix itself somehow?”

The only thing I can think of doing was I did log out and back into Edge with my account login. Doubtful that would have done anything though.

I´m trying to fix this problem for several days now without success. I just cant download msfs 2020 from microsoft store.
I´ve talked hours to microsoft support they couldn´t help me as well. I´ve tried it all: reseting the store, clearing cache, reinstall, disabling anti virus and much much more. I´m out of Ideas if anyone had the same problem pls tell me how you fixed it.

By “download from the store” I presume you mean you can’t install the installer, the 1.5ish GB initial download that feeds into the big download ?

I presume you can download other stuff, the free screensavers and so on ?

One possibility might be to have a second account, and use that £1 subscription thing, or whatever it is, and see if that installs.

If it does, there’s something wrong with your stored account data at Microsoft. Somehow got corrupted and when the Store tests to see if you own MSFS it comes back no for some reason.

If it doesn’t, then you’re looking at some weird hardware problem. Have you tried running stress tests on the RAM / CPU and so on ?

I presume you’ve tried removing all possible USB connections and seeing if that helps ?

Another possibility is that you could transfer it to Steam. LR did this when I had problems with X-Plane, it periodically wouldn’t verify, something to do with the test being stuffed by multiple cores I think, we never did figure it out despite exchanging network traces and the like. It definitely was better running on one core though. In the end they just transferred the license to Steam for me.

I dont have any problems downloading from any other launcher such as steam, epic games launcher, origin etc. I also did several windows probelm diagnosis on the software and the Harddrive - no problems found.
I already opened a support ticket hopefully I can transfer my Premium Deluxe Edition to Steam, I´m done with microsoft Store. If anyone still has an Idea I would love to hear it.
Also I´m able to download other small apps such as Prime Video but when it comes to big Games like Forza or MSFS I get the error.

It´s sometimes this or even this error code: 0x80070005

Check to see the last time you DL’d a windows update, if its been recently, uninstall the win update and try again.

Did you know that you can put these error codes into Google and get possible solutions like the last one above. Windows Update Error code 0x80070005 - Microsoft Community

even after an in build windows repair the problem still perists and I can´t download msfs 2020 from the microsoft store or the xbox app. Error Code: 0x803FB107. I´m at that point when theres just nothing more to do, cause I did it all.

Did you try setting up another account and using the cheap pass deal on that, purely to see if that installs ?

Alternatively, if you have a mate or another PC handy, create an account on that and see if that installs.

It’s possible I think that the information stored on you at MS central is borked, in which case it won’t matter what you do.
