[WIP] A380X | FlybyWire Simulations

A380 almost here - What are your thoughts for first flight people? I’m probably going to do EGLL-EDDF offline of course, Both A380 approved airports.

You need to be realistic - Can’t say you are taking an A380 into London City!

London city runway 4,948 ft long, that’s fun because at the end there is water. :swimming_man:

So you want that vatsim adds dispatchers that check 1000s of flightplans every day? Yeah, that would be a fulltime job for multiple peoples….

The Pilot is responsible for flightplanning on VATSIM. Its in the code of conduct.

Of course not, computers are wonderful at doing stuff like that.

If the route isn’t valid for whatever reason the controller will simply issue a reroute.

Do we know yet, what time tomorrow the release will happen?

The FBW installer will no doubt crash tomorrow. In my head it releases Saturday. Less hassle!

I think I’ll do the Haneda to Honolulu route as my first A380 flight.

Take your pick!

My Neofly 4 AI pilots are making me lots of virtual money, flying to and fro between EGNX and NZCH, in A380s, so I might just show a bit of solidarity with them and fly the 21.5 hour trip myself.

It’ll probably be just a one-way affair though, even if I get to use some form of time acceleration.

Edit: although thinking about it, I might need to land somewhere else on the way, as I’m not sure that the actual range of the A380 would reach in a non-stop flight. Maybe Dubai?

Patiently waiting :watch:

Dubai, Hong Kong, Bangkok….

Plenty of places to refuel along the way. I don’t think the A380 has the legs for that route non-stop unless it had 100% fuel load and empty payload.

Coming to your wee (not dubai) local vatsim airport near you…:rofl::rofl::rofl:
Shes going to be jam-packed rammed in

Just for your information…

Auckland airport has 14 stands in total that are A380 capable.
5 jetway and 9 handstands
Also
Christchurch has two which are unique in that they are single jetways..
Also…
Ohakea airforce base has been used as a diversion airport a couple of times you guys could fly to that one as a bit of a “alternative..”

On Vatsim UK we use a plugin called VFPC which is now built in as default tool into ATC software that we use. Basically when a pilot submits a flight plan - the system will automatically check to see if that route complies with route/altitude/ATC restrictions for a given flight. If there are any errors or weird routings (some pilots do file awful routings) it will give us error message. It will then give us an option to select alternate routings as well showing which routings are acceptable. All then we have to do is notify the pilot of the error, suggest new routing which they will accept and change routing in their flight plan. It is a lot of work however and when it is busy a controller might instead notify the error to the pilot and then it is up to the pilot to find alternate routing. Remember at the end of the day pilot is ultimately responsible for their flight planning. IRL this duty would be undertaken by company’s operations department/Dispatchers.

The only downside of the plugin above is - it only works for routings within UK and Irish airspace, anything outside is unknown.

Sorry to be such a noob here but I went to FBW site to do some reading and don’t really understand how the downloading process will go since I never downloaded from them before. 2 questions

Do we download an installer prior to downloading the plane and if yes, where is the installer?

Am I reading correctly that the plane is 20gb in size?

Yes. You need to download and install the FlyByWire installer first. This will allow you to download the A380 when it becomes available there.

You can download it from the FlyByWire website: https://flybywiresim.com/

The initial release is around 15 GB, but you’ll need 20 GB of available space to download.

Thanks! Wow I knew the A380 is a big plane but didn’t expect 15gb big. I regret not getting the 2TB for my C drive.

I downloaded the installer right away in case the server crashes tomorrow.

The release window has already started, meaning the FBW A380 could be release any time up until 23:59 UTC

There is no specific release time yet. Turn on notifications on the FBW discord and wait for an official announcement.

I’m just waiting for a disturbance in the Force.
