Workaround For Bravo Trim Wheel (Slowness)

Good Post. This is the route Im going down for my elevator trim on Honeycomb and rudder/aileron trim wheels I have on a 3rd Party rotary encoder box I bought on Etsy.

The forum was reorganized since I posted that.

I want to thank everyone who made suggestions in this thread. My Bravo trim wheel is now PERFECT for my Bonanza G36.

Installed vJoy, Installed AuthentiKit Tuner app, Loaded the Honeycomb preset.
Deleted Elevator Trim bindings from my Bravo controls. vJoy is ONLY binding the buttons assigned by the AuthentiKit app (which maps ā€˜Elevator Trim Axis -100 to 100ā€™ to the L Axis X as set by the app. The app maps Button 22 (down) and Buttone 23 (up) to the L Axis X.

I also changed the compatibility settings of the appā€™s .EXE file as recommended above.

I had the same problems as others of the ā€˜Upā€™ trim tracking well, and the ā€˜Downā€™ trim tracking poorly.
The key was to adjust ā€˜Sensitivityā€™ in the vJoy controls as recommended above:
All axes = 0
Reactivity = 100
Once I did that, everything fell into place. I ended up changing one thing in the AK app settings - I changed the sensitivity from the default of 360 down to 170. Anything lower and it took too much trim wheel movement to get the desired trim, and higher numbers caused too much trim for a given amount of wheel motion (as expected.)
Now the trim wheel adjusts elevator trim from down limit to up limit in around 180Ā°, adjusting in very smooth 1Ā° increments. Turning AP on and off introduces zero jerkiness.

A shout out to Mark at SimHanger, whose 2021 video got me started on this path. Soooo much easier than SPAD.NeXt. I know that appā€™s got benefits, but for me it was very frustrating, and AuthentiKit with vJoy does exactly what I need.

My up vs down trim responsiveness issue can be seen in control panel, not just the sim. Iā€™ve seen a lot of people complaining about the same issue with their bravo wheels. Is that the issue you are referring to?

I donā€™t understand how the changes you mentioned addressed what we all believe is a hardware issue but Iā€™m eager to give it a try. I already use the authentikit vjoy solution but it didnā€™t stop the aircraft trimming up a lot more than down given the same turn of the wheel.

To add to the troubleshooting aspect: my Authenitik controls responded in USB Game controller, but nothing showed moving in the vJoy device. With the vJoy install you get a ā€œConfigure vJoyā€ program and at the bottom is a Check Box, with word ā€œenableā€ next to it. If vJoy stops responding, uncheck the box, and recheck it a few seconds later, and youā€™ll be able to see the controls respond under properties once more.
vJoy seems to like disconnecting just for fun! hope it helps someone through this frustration.

Oh, why didnā€™t I do this a long time ago?? So simple to setup and made the Trim wheel work exactly as I wanted to. Seems like the app has been improved since this thread started. Good thing to know that the sensitivity settings i MSFS was way off for the vJoy. Changed that and sensitivity to ā€œ170ā€ in the AK app.

I donā€™t know how you guys installed vJoy, but I unchecked all of the the ā€œCompanion Applicationsā€ (Demo vJoy Feeder application, vJoy Configuration application, vJoy Monitoring application) before continuing the installation. Seems to work fine.

I have been trying to install this on a windows 10 machine and when I come to run the Tuning App I get the below error " Object reference not set to an instance of an object" ā€¦ any ideas on how to fix???

I have just installed AuthentiKit Tuning App and I am getting the same error message on app startup on Windows 11.

UPDATE:
I got the app to start by following advice above -

ā€œFind the AuthentikitTrimCalibration.exe, right-click Properties, click Compatibility, click Change high DPI settings, check the two check-boxes for Program DPI and High DPI scaling override. Finally (this worked for me anyway), select when ā€œI open this programā€ in the first dropdown and ā€œSystem (Enhanced)ā€ in the second dropdown. Apply and enjoy.ā€

this video is outdated & the version of the authentikit app doesnt have the same menu layout & also doesnt have a start all option

well theres no start all option & huddisons video is outdated & it doesnt work, idk? but the option of a rewally slow useless trim that barely works or a jumping trim when you disengage ap well hardly a good choice or a good solution

The application still works great and is used on every flight for myself. Start All button absolutely still there.

Version 1.4.0 is latest.

Great tip! Iā€™m new to the forum so I canā€™t actually post the issue I ran into yet. I will say however, that immediately after installing vJoy and AuthentiKit (which work perfectly by the way - save the Bravo trim wheel and made it useful), my Virtual Fly V3RNIO+ TPM stopped working. I also ran a Windows (11) update around that time. Every since, the V3RNIO will not be recognized by Windows [Device Manager shows ā€œDevice Descriptor Request Failedā€ error]. Tried going back to a restore point before vJoy and AuthentiKit and the Windows update, that didnā€™t work. Uninstalled vJoy and AuthentiKit, that didnā€™t work. Updated BIOS, updated drivers - nothing - it is like this $1000 TPM just turned into a useless brick.

Iā€™ll post a topic with details on this issue once Iā€™m trusted enough for new topics.

I used the video a couple of days ago and Iā€™m a total noob. It was good enough for me to get the trim wheel working the way I wanted it to. Grateful for Sim Hangar and all of his videos!

Last week I swapped out my Thrustmaster Boeing throttle quadrants for a Bravo. What an improvement! (now if my FlightSimFactory order would shipā€¦)

Iā€™m so glad to have found this thread!

Thank you @skypilotYTS for posting this!
