“LOC1”/“VOR1” displayed when the CDI is selected to nav 2 is a bug. I reported it March 23 and others have noted it too. On the Discord site, it’s also reported and planned for a fix at the next NXi update (Matt on 3/31).
As you can see when selecting Giannoino2’s screenshot, he has the double needle which you only get when nav 2 is selected, along with the nav 2 frequency highlighted in green.
I just loaded up a test scenario practice vnav on a visual approach. It took 4 tries before I got it to work.
I’d approaching the TOD, altitude set below final, VPATH seemed to be armed but I’d pass over the TOD and nothing would happen. I know it’s me, but I wish I knew what I was messing up.
I’m guessing on some attempts, I may have hit the TOD end exceeded the vertical navigation parameters? But if so, why was there a TOD? Seems like it would not have been in front of me on the magenta line if that were the case. I’d also have a count down to BOD while no VS.
I am not bothering with Vnav until I well and truly understand all the final approach stuff. I still dont fully understand the visual approach mechanism with the magenta GS function and until I can “walk” so to speak, I wont attempt running.
So not been following this thread, am I correct in saying that working title are going to be overhauling the navigation in FS 2020 completely at some point or is it just the G1000nxi that will be implemented into the sims coding.
I, too, share your pain. For now, it is on us, however, to “figure it out” by wading through the 2600+ posts, YouTube videos, and the myriad of other how-to’s out there.
My hope is that soon NXi will be stable enough so that someone can produce a nice condensed, MSFS Pilot’s Manual similar to Garmin’s own DA62 version: 190-02622-00_a.pdf (garmin.com)
I did have the g1000nxi installed on my xbox, but I read that it was causing crashes for some, I did have crashes myself but not had ctd since SU7, can’t remember when I disabled the nxi add-on, so unsure if that was the cause.
Thank you for the 2 additional Garmin references. I think it helps to have at least a fundamental understanding of how these systems are supposed to function in order to successfully develop one’s personal workflow. Otherwise it just turns into a frustrating trial and error exercise.
What exactly is activating the approach too? It seems there are multiple ways. Activating leg from the FP, Direct To, Proc button (activate), APR button, deleting airport waypoint, etc.
Somewhere in that transition is where I feel I lose the VNAV.
If I’m cleared to the Approach (and ATC and I agree with the Approach and Transition selected - that’s another story with stock ATC ), I’m going to Load and Activate it, which sends me right to the Transition. Usually I am either in the 2nd to last or last segment before the Arrival field, so I will discard that path to go directly to the Transition Point by Activating.
That way, I know APR will work as long as I’m past the IAF and I’m before the FAF and correctly descending to be at or below the FAF altitude constraint. That’s a 98 percent guarantee even in pre-NXi WT Add-On days that I will get Glidepath Capture on an RNAV.
Activating can be as simple as hitting the APR button befor you are lined up. If that’s the case then you will get a little grey “GS” in the status which indicates you are activated but you have not intercepted it yet. When it intercepts the glideslop then GS will turn green (I think)
