World Update Canada

As I wrote to the person above, there were no updates to Canada in the US world update. This is a question I asked the Community team at the time, and they informed me that World Update 2 was a US update only.

I know that a lot of people are eagerly awaiting a Canadian update. I will say this: Being one of the first does not always put someone at an advantage. The US world update had approximately 50 POIs (that’s a rough count by me, not an official count). The Iberia update had just about double that. And that is a reflection of a larger team and perhaps more streamlined processes. So, I think that when Canada does get updated, you might be getting something better than what the US had.

Yes please!
The majority of my flights are bush trips in the X-Cub over Newfoundland and the Rockies.

There’s lots of beautiful scenery going up the coast of Labrador from Makkovik all the way to Nain. This is Inuk land and communities. My cousin flew Air Ambulance up that coast for may years in a Twin Otter! I’d love to see it fully developed!

The Torngat mountains are spectacular! They are dramatic in reality but so round in the sim at the moment.
I spend a lot of time over Gros Morne National Park. Its topography is highly nuanced and I’d love to see that reflected.
And just generally I’d like to see waterfalls.

China, Middle East, India, South East Asia, Brazil just to name a few are far more important countries/regions with larger populations and markets, as well as global appeal. Canada is really only of interest to Canadians. To the most of the world, it’s of little interest in terms of a flying destination.

Oh really??
And who outside Brazil, South East Asia, India or China really cares about flying over those same countries/places?? I for instance don’t care about any of those locations but I can’t talk for others but neither can you, I believe.

At the same time I don’t think that the “outside” interest about Canada should be that much less than the same “outside” interest in USA, afterall both countries are located in North America and are for the most part very similar.

So this leaves the internal market:
And while countries like Brazil, India or China have a much larger population than Canada, the majority of their respective populations are very or even extremely poor. This means that there are far more people in Canada that can actually buy a proper computer to run FS2020, proper controllers and of course the game itself than for example in Brazil, India or China.

And finally and again, note that World Update is FREE!
So and with all due respect, your “Global sales potential” argument doesn’t even hold up on this.

Well we made the Top Wishlist and are officially “Planned!”

(This is better than being “Not Planned” or merely “Under Investigation”)

Montreal needs a good CYUL rendition.

I really wish they would drop all countries and let us pick the ones that we want to download. I fly where I love and at this rate It will be years until they get around to me.
( Any Country )

But I don’t think there’s anything to download until the collaboration between many different teams finishes the work on it.

Glad Canada made the “Planned” list. In addition to all the great scenery ideas already mentioned there are some really awful mesh issues that need to be fixed - for instance just trying to fly relatively low level between Toronto and Hamilton reveals some nasty spikes and dips where they shouldn’t be - so even just overhauling that would be greatly appreciated.

Voted, just because today’s 2nd update for the US. The better US is worthy of an update at long last

I think of the national anthem… But more like “No Canada…” :frowning:

Good news that Canada is a planned update. Champlain bridge in Montreal is under the water.

Hoping the satellite data and photogrammetry gets a big update too.

All of Toronto is several years outdated, I’d say about 8-10 years so. Lots of high rise buildings that are present today aren’t in the sim. Union Station looks a lot different today, and Harbourfront’s construction has been finished for like 7ish years now

Also the major terrain issues in Mississauga really need fixing.

I think most of the Canadian data is out of date. Victoria still has the old Blue Bridge, that was replaced in 2016

Would love to the ~especially~ Vancouver Island, BC&AB with a much higher level of detail!

This was a post I started months ago and never hit send on? Regarding making community mesh/terrain add ons.

There’s public DEM data of ALL of Canada at 2m, with large areas at 1m. Color/albedo, photographic maps that are public and free may be much more limited in resolution.

But I am tempted to try out the DEM to MSFS terrain tool.

"In the southern part of the country (south of the productive forest line), DTM and DSM datasets are generated from airborne LiDAR data. They are offered at a 1 m or 2 m resolution and projected to the UTM NAD83 (CSRS) coordinate system and the corresponding zones. The datasets at a 1 m resolution cover an area of 10 km x 10 km while datasets at a 2 m resolution cover an area of 20 km by 20 km. In the northern part of the country (north of the productive forest line), due to the low density of vegetation and infrastructure, only DSM datasets are generally generated. Most of these datasets have optical digital images as their source data. They are generated at a 2 m resolution using the Polar Stereographic North coordinate system referenced to WGS84 horizontal datum or UTM NAD83 (CSRS) coordinate system. Each dataset covers an area of 50 km by 50 km. For some locations in the north, DSM and DTM datasets can also be generated from airborne LiDAR data. In this case, these products will be generated with the same specifications as those generated from airborne LiDAR in the southern part of the country.

The HRDEM product is referenced to the Canadian Geodetic Vertical Datum of 2013 (CGVD2013), which is now the reference standard for heights across Canada. "

Where do you see it’s planned? Any word, solid or speculative about when, which WU it will be? After the 40th Anniversary update I assume?

Weekly development update.
