World update for England and Ireland

For those that like to make “before & after” comparisons, this weekend would be a good time to record performance statistics and take screenshots / videos of the UK & Ireland before the update is released on Tuesday.

As a reminder, this list of enhancements, as shown in the last Development LiveStream, could be used as a guide for where you might want to fly :slightly_smiling_face:

Ireland:
Cork, Cork Airport (EICK), Dublin, Cliffs of Moher / Liscannor

Scotland:
Edinburgh, Glasgow, Sumburgh airport (EGPB)

England:
Brighton, Bristol, Greater London, Heathrow, Leeds, Bradford, Liverpool, Newcastle, Sunderland, London Stanstead (EGSS), Farnborough (EGLF)

Wales:
Cardiff, Cardiff airport (EGFF)

Plus Gibraltar (TIN), & too many new POIs to mention here - see the LiveStream for the complete list of these.

Looking forward to seeing new dem over Scottish highlands, the Glasgow / Edinburgh & central Scotland PG, as well as new London PG.
I may have to reassess the Orbx UK mesh and GB POI packs.

For those of you with good eyesight and short attention spans  here are the POIs and new DEM screen grabs from the dev stream.

Nice! After missing out on the two previous updates the IOM now gets to have scenery worthy of it’s central location … Famous for it’s notorious weather who will dare a sea crossing in an ultralight or a glider?

There’s a few POI’s on the IOM too. I hope they have got updated satellite imagery as those purple textures were glaringly bad.
I’m wondering how this update works with Orbx mesh too, possiby not.
Expect an orbx POI update or two at some point, the mesh I may no longer need.

Having tested with recent Bing scenery I am confident the creeping green, purple and orange textures are now history. I would hope the POI’s are an improvement on those in Orbx’s GB North however I suspect they’ll just transplant them. Oh well, beggars can’t be choosers etc.

Fantastic that the Isle of Man finally gets fixed, time to break out the ATR again. My other worry is whether Maccosim Manchester will work, because the dev has seemingly gone off grid.

Is this out today (22nd) or tomorrow?

Tomorrow I believe

Although i probably going to like this update, i miss the lack of updates to the rest of the world. It very western based and i really miss a lot of asian, african or south american places. I know it’s also bing and maps based and those places are ‘easier’ to put in the sim, but i would like to see f.i. Cairo or Bangkok or places like nasca lines in south america improved

Is the London PG update also added in this update?

London PG is totally redone, so nothing left of the old. Gibraltar gets a makeover, too.

I’m hoping there won’t be conflicts between this and Orbx’s GB packs.

In the FS Expo business presentation it showed where most of the marketplace revenue comes from - Europe and North America. I think they are probably just catering to their biggest market segments.

Are we getting new arial imagery to go with the new DEM?

I am from Europe, but I fly all over the World and would love to have Africa and Asia updated.

I don’t believe it’s based on that. Jörg explained multiple that it’s much easier to get necessary data for Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand. I’m pretty sure he is more than aware that even a lot of us from Europe or North America would love to get WUs covering other parts of the world. Just have a look at what he has to say about the trouble they went through for the upcoming WU Brazil.

yes, but from a marketing perspective you can see why they have focused where they have. UK/Ireland was also a very early WU and a lot of things have changed in the sim since then. No complaints about a 2nd UK update here.

@BragRaindrop933,
I agree with @Newspawnz. I often fly outside of NA & Europe & would love to see improvements in Asia & South America. I’m really looking forward to Brazil & hope to see better data for the Andean countries in future too. In addition, improving areas outside of NA & Europe might encourage new users from these areas to purchase the sim, as most folks appreciate flying over their homelands in HD. :slightly_smiling_face:

I agree with you all on this we’d love to have the whole world to explore in nice detail, I’m just saying I can see WHY they chose so many North American and European updates. It makes business sense.

That was what i was talking about, but that doesn’t mean i am only flying over those places. Europe, America and Australia more or less are the richer people over the world so more people who play the sim would come from here. But i love to fly over asia f.i. But a lot of those are more or less not so interesting atm because of the bing maps or no programmtry cities.

Slightly off-topic here but do we know whether WU18 is Poland or Brazil, since both are now confirmed to be in development?
