World Update: the world isn't limited to the United States!

Completely false.

Probably they already had the photogrammetry for years. A guy in the Japan post said he recognized the photogrammetry from 2014.

I believe that most of the work in the world updates is actually not the photogrammetry. Yes, there are numerous of those areas in the US. However, there is a lot of area in the US that looks pretty bad outside of those photogrammetry cities. Green roads, bad textures, poorly placed building sizes (outside of the latest bug), etc. I think, on top of that, @FogoWar probably has the criteria pretty well described. I’m sure the order of world update releases is not a recent choice.

Yep he is already on my ignore list, has been for a while.

I live in the US and I agree with OP. Don’t concentrate on the US. I’d rather fly somewhere in-sim that I will probably never get the opportunity to fly to in real life.

Obviously there are limitations to what can be accomplished regarding DEM data, photogrammetry, ect that others have posted so I am sure a lot of the availability of data goes into their decisions on what areas they want to concentrate on for world updates.

The photogrammetry trees make it a lot worse than it has to be. I wonder if there would be a way to remove the trees from the photogrammetry data and just autogen them.

Cmon! I don’t really care which country is first or second! Fair enough to know that such upgrades are for free!

What?
I honestly didn’t get his point.

Please take a look and listen to the DEM/Mesh section of the Q&A.

There are more airport IDs in the US than all the rest of the world combined!! The US is a natural for the develpers because of the extensive amount of data available. The US has more pilots than any other country in the world, more aircraft, and more aeronautic infrustructure than anywhere else on earth.

Why would you NOT build to that potential customer base?

IDK why people say this. Europe has TONS of good 3D cities. I fly in Europe more often because of this. Also the people that play this game are mostly from US and Europe anyways so of course they will do US lol. I wouldnt have cared if they did Europe first. Central is after and then south America. Patience…

I thought about it too. It should be simple. Exclude the green area of photographs from photogrammetry

My aunt has a house in Woodland Hills with a green roof, so it might be more complicated than that.

Yea I thought that may have some unintended consequences though all the photogrammetry trees are a particular shade of green. Something along those lines and putting in exclusions may work. Definitely no expert here but I am sure something can be done. I just don’t think photogrammetry trees could ever work.

1/3rd arch second is ~10m. Jorg said they got Japan DEM at 5m resolution. So, technically Japan mapped their country better than the US. Not surprising given how big the US is.

Yeah, the USGS has listed the whole US as being 1/3 arch seconds. They also show that there are higher resolution areas mapped down to the 1-meter resolution, just not the whole US. I think a part of that is that the USGS is basically funding each State’s survey groups to perform the survey for that State.

Perhaps a geographic feature called the Great Salt Lake? :upside_down_face:

I am sure that Asobo would have chosen Europe before America. I think that Microsoft has instructed that America should be given priority because of the XBox release. But honestly, I don’t care in which order the countries are revised. As a European, I can fly and have fun in America too. At least for me this is no reason to be angry.

Flying low a few feet off the top of the river in the Grand Canyon is kinda fun.. Looks kinda melted and there is some elevation issues . I look forward to see how the new update affects it… 1G4 is close to a steep entrance into the canyon , you can take off an dive down a cliff and level off above the river and go for a cruise..

I hope monument valley gets some work also…

The next world update after the US will likely be Europe. I hope they get to Canada at some point, but not holding my breath there.

I’d like at least the west coast of Canada as that’s a super pretty place for flying and fits nice between Washington and Alaska too. Bush flying paradise! :small_airplane: :smiley_cat:

I think John form Orbx said awhile ago that imagery for Canada was super expensive, so I hope Microsoft has its own.
