Lately, on my Windows 11 PC, the XBox app starts running whenever I boot up the PC. This just started happening recently, I believe with an update to the XBox app.
I would like to not have the XBox app open automatically every time I start the PC, but before turning off the setting that starts it automatically, I would like to know whether a running XBox app is required to either (1) start and run MSFS, or (2) update MSFS or check for MSFS updates.
There is also a setting in the XBox app to “keep the app running in the background when I close it”. So, I’d like to know how to deal with that setting as well.
You don’t need it to be running in background per se, but at the minimum it should be up to date and your Gamertag (the ID you use in the sim) is logged in. Once it’s launched, just exit it. Uncheck the background app so it doesn’t minimize when you exit, but actually close down.
I can’t really remember but for sure you don’t need to have it running (although gaming services (2x) seem to be but I think that’s just a MS licence check for the sim and anything else MS)
