Xbox Downloads and Install of Updates

I migrated from Windows to Xbox S for MS FS2020. I have a lot of updates to install. The problem is these updates won’t install. For example, downloading and installing the US update has failed several times. If I start the download, the download runs fine (and fast at 100 MBis or more). But when it completes, it tells me the update is only partially installed and offers another software update package. If I select that and start the download, it runs at dialup speed. If I let it run (for hours and hours), it will complete, but the status still shows another 900MB of data needs to be downloaded. I did get the Japan update to install, but Austrial has failed several times. I ran the Xbox network (wifi) check and test and it shows as good, with good speeds. Any idea of what is going on?

Hi @CentricDisc3378,
I’ve moved your topic into #bugs-and-issues:performance for better community assistance.

That is some pretty strange behavior.

You don’t have any sort of customized settings within your router, do you? A VPN, or some kind of firewall or even custom set DNS servers?

There aren’t too many options to play with regarding networking and the Xbox itself.

Nope, nothing unusual. And I did run the network test and it passed with good results. And, I have had success (the Japan update). I have seen the download run at 150Mbits - which is the performance I got when running on Windows. I discovered that you can look “inside” the packages, and I see airports, etc. listed as “failed install”. I am thinking about trying to download these indiivual components separately, but even if it works will be very tedious.

I would log out of xbox shutdown and restart the machine then log in again… that might help

Do you have a significant amount of add-ons installed?

Either way, you might want to try deleting the “reserved space” and retry the whole download process.

I had some really whacky behavior with my Xbox the other day. I’d uninstall add-ons and it would still show they were installed. Reboots, etc, wouldn’t cure it. Deleting the reserved space fixed the issue.

Do you know how to do that?

Deleting reserved space is almost guaranteed to cause paging problems further down the line if you keep filling it up.

It rebuilds it. It’s where the sim is storing add-on content. This on an Xbox, not a PC.

Of course it rebuids it but if you are using that space the reserved cache will be reduced. The X-box needs a provision just like any PC does

How?

After deleting mine, and reinstalling all content it was the same size as it was before.

Well that’s different, you obviously haven’t reached the normal limit yet.

My options were to either delete it, or uninstall the entire sim and re-download the entire sim plus add-ons.

I’m going for the less drastic of the two options.

For sure, I guess there’s probably quite a lot of old install files and possibly back ups to delete before you run into problems but always keep an eye on your free space.

The issue, for me, wasn’t a free space concern. I have a ton of it, the issue was with add-on content, for which the World Updates are considered.

Since the OP is having a very difficult time getting these to install and, short of uninstalling the entire sim and starting over, it would stand to reason he ought to maybe try what I did to fix the issues I was having with add-on content.

What I did cured the trouble. All that was required was to re-download them as desired.

No problem, that’s all good but I would still say advising others to do the same should come with a caution.

Given how broken their installation sounds, I think they are past the point of caution and into the “one step before a re-installation” point.

Good point … and let’s leave it at that

Thanks - that seems to have helped. I have gotten a couple of the World Updates to install and the downloads have been much faster. The last time, however, after completing the download and install, the Xbox locked up. I had to restart using the power button on the Xbox.

Ah, the old windows days - Tech Support: “Have you tried rebooting?”

Thanks again for the suggestion.

I had the same. Just verify you have enought place in your hdd… mine show 43gb left but there was not enought to put the purchase. I think he need a safe place. I desinstall a game and everything is good now

haha tech support reboot still relevant these days even with my xbox
