Just had a glimpse into the cockpit of this aircraft on Google Images and was impressed with how modern the glass cockpit is! Was just curious what the current state of this plane is and what the expectations are after the AAU2 update coming later this month?
I’ve been spending a lot of time with the Airbus A320 as of late and dabbled a bit with the 747-8, but I find it to be bigger than I care for and has somewhat of a less modern interface?
I’d be willing to invest in the more affordable variants of the PMDG 737 I’ve heard will probably be coming down the road to XBOX but this 787 looks more appealing to me as far as the cockpit feel.
Thanks
A lot better than it used to be, and improving all the time during the AAU update. You can find plenty of people showing current state of beta on YouTube such as

I’ve flown it at least a couple of dozen times and at the moment it is missing vnav…which is a big deal. It should be implemented in AAU2. There are many other improvements coming in this update and the aircraft should be significantly improved. This is my expectation anyway.
Even with this critical limitation I quite enjoyed flying the 787 and am eagerly awaiting the AAU2 update.
FYI, I also own the PMDG 737 but there are limitations there that make me want to return to the 787 for now.

OP-Et-All - When 2020 was released none of the big iron could be flown easily or good. Constantly missed airport destinations, NAV/FMS would not work, ap was a joke. In SU-05 the fixed some of those issues and they were marginal.
If this sim was “as real as it gets” the FAA would ground it. However, based on several videos one of which is posted above, AAU2 should clear up much of the issues in the planes. I will try 747-8 once released of AAU2 has been downloaded and installed. I have developed a CL for 747, so I am going to check that to make sure it’s still germane to the plane. I have not flown either of them for over year. 787 to me was never a good plane, flight model was very poor, and it did not perform like I thought a airliner should. If you get it, at your own risk. The 747 is much better, and the best Airliner to me is the PMDG-737 model, but it’s almost like a real plane and takes a bunch to learn how it works. Especially read the introduction and practice the tutorial flight from both directions. It is as close to RL as possible in this SIM. I have X-Plane 11 & 12 installed on my PC as well. And those to me work better, the scenery is more real to life especially season and colors of foliage especially. Water, is not good, but water is very difficult to model, in fact any fluid is.
Funny you should ask… It’ll be wayyy better on Friday

I see you’re on Xbox which means you’ve been flying the default A320 and 747-8i.
There’s really no comparison between current 78X and 748 versus what is coming in AAU2. There are hundreds of bug fixes and feature improvements. You won’t have to wait long to try them. If you find you want even deeper system simulations then you can decide on the PMDG.

Thanks for the link! I’ll check it out
Appreciate the feedback, I didn’t mention that I don’t own Premium Deluxe yet, but thinking about it, I currently subscribe to Game Pass already though.
Appreciate the feedback! Should be interesting to see what AAU2 brings.
I last heard that their current ETA is June 29th, did you mean two Friday’s from now?
I think you’re right… sorry
yay! I was very disappointed to read the 29th originally!

Sadly, it appears that the AAU2 update has indeed been pushed to next week (29th?).
heard it in this update, posted 1h ago. Seems reliable enough. Still hope it’s wrong…but I’d be surprised if it was.
There’s a comment from that video’s author: “AAU2 is set to release on June 22, not next week as I mention in the video”
