I’ll personally not bother with the Reno stuff either as it’s not what I use the sim for. That’s just purely arcade stuff aimed at very casual players, in my view.
This thread is like the same two or three people saying over and over “Xbox can’t handle complex blah blah”
1.) the sim has been out on Xbox for 2.5 months, did PC have complex airplanes at that point? Does it even now? I really don’t know. CRJ/Working Title? Both Coming to Xbox. What else are you referring to. PDMG 737? they are not going to leave a million dollar market on Xbox just because it’s too complex. They may dumb it down some sure. I don’t mind that.
2.) don’t compare to farming simulator, there is infinitely more money involved with flight sim
3.) it is true Xbox has its limitations but can things not be adapted when hundred of thousands if not millions of dollars are there, sure they can.
4.) let’s face it, a lot of PC’ers are mad that this game is so great on my $300 Xbox series S when they dropped $2000 on a computer.
Funny guy
It is a fact, that external code or script is not supported on Xbox (and even Playstation).
Also the Pipers from Just Flight are using external code and they are not on a compex study level like the DC 6 from PMDG
This is not a money issue, it is all about the closed system from a console where external code is not allowed. Period! Full Stop!
Only Microsoft can change this, but then they have to open it also for other 3rd Party Games which are using Mods. This will not happend.
So, do your research.
Hopefully they earn enough money to pay for that code or hire some of those amazing people who work mods on PC? Just a thought… Patience is needed for sure but money is in Xbox too so I think they will work things out.
@Kuang129693 you may be right, I’m not a programmer or developer so I don’t know for sure. I’m a business man so I think in terms of opportunity. So if these devs don’t make things work for Xbox then they don’t have business mindsets. Maybe that’s the case. But I think PDMG will have some form (maybe not the same as PC) of the 737 on Xbox. I’ll send you a pic of me flying it once it’s available. Or maybe I’m wrong and you can taunt me with your 737 on PC
Agreed. Unfortunately a lack of patience is quite prevalent in some of these threads. Some people want things done yesterday.
Same here feel like I made a mistake paying for any aircraft on xbox, been waiting on Kodiak -100 and the PC-6, but really lost interest but do monthly group flights and that is about it. Really, think MS just did it for $$$, and have no real interest in making XBOX anywhere near getting new additions like on PC.
Most definitely they want people buying the Air Races but to me it’s just a distraction from the lack of geting new planes to the marketplace and I am not buying it either.
My only hope is Aerosoft Airbus at Marketplace.
I’ve been looking for a forum ( or even a section of one ) where Xbox FS players can express opinions about our thoughts, experiences and issues without incurring the wrath of SOME of the PC community.
If you hear of such a site please share
@RoseCheetah8677 Yes, start one on here! Though majority PC simmers do have a lot of good info and I’ve learned a lot from some on here and YouTube. Some just don’t want Xbox to succeed. Understandable I guess. I had one guy on YouTube telling me it was a “game” on Xbox and not a sim. I asked why the difference since at the base it is the same “sim” and he said because you have to use a controller and most people fly external view. I then informed him that I had a T flight Hotas, mouse, and keyboard running on my series S for the sim and I’m flying IFR JFK to Heathrow every other day. Instead of saying wow that’s amazing, he just said “oh interesting”.
I’ve been simming for 20+ years but never had an interest in upgrading to a PC that would run MSFS2020 decently. Now that it’s available on xbox I’m hooked again.
Also go check out the “new simmers introduce yourself thread”. Looks to me that the majority of new users are Xbox over the past few months.
Call me crazy but I think this is a trial run and that the next MSFS will sell more copies on future gen console than it does on PC (ducking for cover now )
No… i am not “maybe” right … it is a very well-known fact, that mods in general doesn’t have the same functionality like on PC.
This is a fact and it up to Microsoft (and Sony) to change it. But on the other side, I understand Microsoft (and Sony). They are not in control of external scripts anymore, when the allowed it to use on a console. A console is by design a closed box with closed platform approach by design. And when Microsoft will change this, to allow external code e.g. for Flightsim, then they also have to allow it for other 3 Party Studios…. It is not about money; it is about the security about the whole Xbox platform.
We had this issue since the OG Xbox… and in the last 20 years it never changed.
And guys, I am only play and sim on Xbox not on pc…… so this is not an argument to tread me like an pc gamer nice try.
Edit : i like to have more study level planes on xbox but when i see what happend with seafront simulations and just flight i dont believe it anymore more, that we are geting complex mods on xbox.
God loves a trier
Whilst our aircraft (PA28s, Hawk T1, 146 etc) use extensive custom-coding and very little of the default MSFS systems, for both PC and Xbox we are limited to using WASM gauges when developing for MSFS, and those run ‘inside’ rather than ‘outside’ of the sim, with constraints on what we can do (particularly with regards to accessing files/features outside of MSFS).
Those constraints, put in place by MS/Asobo for the security and cross-platform reasons discussed above, has been one of the biggest hurdles for developers of complex aircraft like ours, PMDG, Aerosoft etc, requiring changes to the way that we achieve those complex systems. The extent to which changes are required obviously varying significantly depending on the type of aircraft and systems that it has.
Fortunately for us they have been possible to overcome, hence our aircraft actually having greater systems depth/complexity in MSFS than FSX/P3D/XP11, but developers of modern airliners will face greater challenges with things like FMCs, weather and terrain radars, terrain databases, external FDEs etc, all of which relied on the freedom to do pretty much whatever we liked in our code in FSX/P3D/XP11. It’s one of the reasons that we decided to work up from the PA28s to the Hawk T1 and now 146, building our knowledge and giving time for the SDK to be improved as we progress to more complex aircraft.
Those issues are what developers like PMDG are having to spend considerable time on, in collaboration with MS/Asobo who of course want to see these great aircraft in MSFS but need to balance that with the need for security and cross-platform compatibility. The SDK has continued to improve as demonstrated by some of the excellent aircraft already available for the sim and that will continue, although compromises might have to be made at times.
As far as our aircraft are concerned, we are currently not aware of anything that will prevent us from getting those released on Xbox, although work on the PA28s has identified issues present only on Xbox that contradict the original SDK guidance and expectation that aircraft developed as per SDK guidelines will work identically on both PC and Xbox. The MS/Asobo team are working hard to resolve those issues though, and we hope to see our aircraft available on Xbox soon.
Hope that clears things up from a developer point-of-view.
Martyn - Just Flight
It does, Martyn. Thanks for the insight, it’s much appreciated.
That’s Awesome news, Thank You
I’m holding out for your Turbo Arrow and Hawk:+1:
Thanks for responding so comprehensively to a post which was a genuine question but possibly sounded like a bit of a whinge
Thanks for the headup and the better explanation as i did, what is now possible or more possible in the future, when the SDK evolves.
Thanks for the insider and very well informed view. From what you say it seems clear that overall what is possible on PC is possible on XBox too but being a closer system it needs more time and patience from us. I suppose where there is a market there is a will and as many more people are now accessing flight sim from a console I would think it is matter of time.
nah, i am pretty sure the justflight pipers will be coming to the box.
besides that, you should have known beforehand, fs on xbox is going to be hampered.
