Xbox/PC screens go black then CTD

I suspect one of, if not the, primary driver for 2024 is the XBox version. They have probably decided that 2020 just isn’t capable of delivering the required experience in its present form, and that major changes are necessary to make the console version viable once more, perhaps for certain complex planes which exacerbate the issue.

And that’s perfectly fine, but I hope they continue to remember that there are PC users as well, and not go down any routes that drag PC users along where changes are not necessary. Don’t forget the M&KB brigade.

It’s not the first passionate post I read here recently. I’m really glad people post here about their passion. I sincerely hope it gets read higher up as well.

My love for the Sim is gone at this point. I tried and I tried, only to be disappointed again and again. I simply refuse to buy a PC in order to play MSFS.

I’ve posted this in the Xbox scenery tracking thread but for some reason since WU15 my sim has become very unstable. I did a full reinstall and eliminated the last few sceneries I bought and still am having issues.

I just don’t understand what the issue is or where it came from? I joined and left the stability beta but even in the beta I was getting much stronger performance. I have the same settings as a number of other users here and yet I get a guaranteed CTD between 30-45 minutes of flight anywhere in the world regardless of aircraft or scenery. My screen flashes brilliant colors, freezes, and crashes.

I’m in the same boat as @UnitedArt. I have no need for a PC at home and will never just buy a one just for MSFS. I understand stability improvements are in the works for SU14 and hopefully 2024 brings more improvement.

Edit: Ran a “test”. Bought the MU-2 and loaded it at an airport with scenery that historically has been flawless for me. Default view and set a stopwatch. 31:02 CTD. I didn’t even turn on the battery. I’d like a little clarification on why this is occurring?

From what I have read, and heard talked about, it’s nothing less than a game changer performance wise. If they can deliver what they talk about, expect great things next year.

We can only hope. If true, I saved a lot of money not spending anything on MSFS 2020 for a long period of time now. Can use it again IF 2024 delivers…

Agree @hobanagerik . The Xbox S version is now un-usable for me. I had a good run for about 2 years, but with each update things got worse. I now delete and re-installed MSFM several times per week with various issues, no mouse, no glass avionics, now I cannot even log into the game with- “press anything to continue- and nothing happens”, apparently a profile problem. As much as I love the sim -when it works. Likewise the post from @UnitedArt I am not prepared to spend £000’ on a PC, then needing to mess around with folders, and configuring files.
I just want to log and play the game. I hope the new 2024, solves the various issues we’ve been enduring over the last 3 years. I am now having withdrawal symptoms.

Folks from Zendesk actually replied in the forums defensively when I mentioned this made no sense in another forum. Sadly there just isn’t a solution other than not using addons, which significantly reduces the value proposition of the console version of MSFS. The devs are definitely aware of this, too.

I’ve seen Zendesk staff defend posts here too. “This isn’t fair as the Zendesk is understaffed…”
I can’t even express how little I care about staffing levels or fairness when money is being spent and products not delivered.
I’ve also been told previously that I was the only one with a reported issue, then got called argumentative when I refused to uninstall/reinstall a third time. I ended up just sending them a link to a forum post with hundreds of upvotes reporting exactly what my Zendesk ticket was created for and told the Zendesk person to not bother replying to the ticket as I’m clearly not going to get any resolution. In that email was also a link to the YouTube upload of their Twitch livestream and a timestamp where Jorg says “we read all the forum posts” and under this I simply put “no one reads the forum posts, dishonesty at the highest level inside MSFS”

Hello @ABneo553,

There is no dishonesty here. We do read all the forum posts.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

Xbox series s. Totally unflyable. Just been waiting for a study level a320 since the release of msfs2020 and when one is finally released then it is unflyable due to black avionics. Will this ever be fixed or do I have to upgrade to xbox series x? Can’t afford a decent pc so that is my only choice. I do not get black avionics when flying pmdg 737 (except for Zurich which is the birthplace of black avionics) but with the a320 v2 I do. If I start in the air the avionics works for a short period of time but I can see that the ground textures will be blurry and after awhile the avionics will disappear. Yes I know it is a memory issue for the series s but is this something that will be resolved or is a upgrade to series x the only option?

Guys, i turnt off live real world traffic and I’ve been able to spawn the PMDG 737 without any issues twice in a row! In 3rd party airports too

I don’t understand how stability and performance weren’t the very top priority for this product on Xbox. There’s not a ton of value add of having another A320neo on PC, so if this product black screens or crashes on console, it’s just Microsoft burning money for no reason. Maybe the hope is it works fine on MSFS 2024?

I tried it out flying KATL to KDCA (payware), and I got a black screen on final and then CTD after landing. Sort of a waste to have a high fidelity A320N on console if it isn’t reliable. Hopefully it improves a ton between now and when the Beta is fully released on the retail sim.

Note I am on Xbox Series X, so I wouldn’t bother spending $500 on console at this point. Save up and apply that on a good PC build.

Wish folks would stop plugging PC on here. This is mostly now specific thread for Xbox since PC rarely have the issue if ever. No offense to anyone that suggested a PC of course.

We all have reasons why we don’t own or want a PC.
The solution here isn’t a PC.

So if someone is thinking of bagging an Xbox in the Black Friday sales. Go ahead.

The onus is on MS and Asobo to fix the SIM they sold us. Not on us to make it easy and buy a PC instead.

No offence but, check the actual title!

I’ve never seen it on PC myself, but I guess if you don’t have enough memory it could still trigger.

Still black screens with real live traffic setting turned off regarding inibuilds a320, fauna 0 and all other settings to 50%.

And fixable on PC for a fairly reasonable cost.

LOL!!! in all these years never noticed. AHH but yes it was an issue of early versions of SIM on PC…

It definitely was and it got fixed around or just after Xbox joined all the fun a year later.

Duly edited my earlier post accordingly and this one now.

Yes, live traffic off is my recommendation too on XSX.
