Yes I agree i would do it whatever works best for you personally mine runs better with it off but it differs
Definitely not a placebo, I did careful testing of it, details in this post Rolling cache -- current opinion? - #97 by RagingWombat839
If you’re not getting any stutters or pauses then leave it alone, otherwise try it off, big difference for me.
Right on! Whatever works…
If you are having no problems I would leave it alone ,in my case a few months ago cities like Los Angeles ,New york etc were progressively becoming a genuine slideshow and I was contemplating giving up MSFS on Xbox.Emptying/switching off cache 100% cured this instantly for me and the problem has not returned.
Well I get stutters sometimes, I noticed LA was particularly rough as well, so I might as well try it off, no harm in trying.
yes me, besides that , with every update there can be old data in the cache giving problems.
Which makes sense.
- It’s 4 years old
- Laptop formfactor does not lend itself well to effective cooling and thermal throttling is always a factor whereas an xbox is larger and can make use of more effective cooling.
Would thar same spec in a desktop formfactor with better cooling perform better than your laptop? Yes. Absolutely.
Would that same spec perform better or as well as an Xbox? Maybe.
Yes. My point was that it’s a PC, its specs are higher than recommended and lower than ideal as listed on the FS2020 required specifications chart. It is four years old, but was only two years old when the sim came out.
The reason I brought this up was to debunk this nonsense that the Xbox is somehow incapable of running the sim or is the entire reason the sim has been “dumbed down” as has been claimed by a myriad of PC users.
Here I have a better than recommended spec PC and an Xbox Series X that has, theoretically, better specifications than my PC.
Therefore all this nonsense about the Xbox’s inferiority is just that — nonsense and ignorance.
What happens is in THEORY it stores textures and buildings’ to speed things up, but as you move about the world(or even the county), the buildings and textures change and then it has to start overwriting everything, which will in turn clog up again. So it’s worthless. The entire offline part is worthless, and you really should delete that too.
You may also get some issues with xbox if your TV and main graphics settings have some compatibility settings wrong. Go back into your xbox settings menus and make sure all your tv/graphics setting are correct at the core level, you might find a big long list of yellow exclamation points where you didn’t realize, should take a little while to fully calibrate the tv/display for the XBOX input too. And make sure you’re using a good HDMI cable, everything as far as graphics ‘options’ in the 'box are based on the tv/monitor connection and the display’s capability.
The game and xbox calibrates itself to maintain a target FPS, sometimes you can actually see it throttling graphics fidelity, but usually so seamless it’s darn near magic. Only a few clogged areas may lag at all, and some things like the first time you pop to an outside view or pan around the cockpit blips when it drop kicks in the textures. Usually you should zoom completely around the cockpit and the outside before you even get going to put them ‘in play’ in the games cache(not the ‘rolling cache’).
I only have rudimentary add ons and I can imagine there are going to be a few that upsets xbox’s native system enough it may lag.
Are you sure it overwrites everything and not store it a part ?
Yup. And even 40gb stored cache gets filled on even a short flight in a petabyte world. You will also see a performance improvement with a wired in connection, even if you have 100mbps wifi, direct connected is better. The world is essentially cloud generated before you, and is also why trying to save any of it is fruitless. 40gb cache plus offline is taking up 100gb on an xbox with an actual net decrease in performance.
Clear your rolling cache and turn it off, restart and fly a familiar area to test flying without it. Msfs performes better and only takes up 56gb without rolling cache or offline mode. And again check your tv compatibility settings
I just tried rolling cache off, it was smooth but not much difference with it on I feel, and off introduces a lot more obvious pop in, so I’m enabling it again.
Don’t have xbox but if you can run a 2nd drive it could be the answer. I’m actually a fan of the cache but never on the same drive as my content, off would be better.
With rolling cache on it feels the same to me smooth as having it off, I have set it to 16.
Series x connected wireless and getting about 180mbps on my xbox speed test.
So I don’t see any benefit in turning rolling cache off unless of course you notice a lot of stutter with it on.
For me having it off, the pop in the distance is a lot more distracting.
So I finally got a response from Microsoft after sending them the link to my thread on this forum and the 500+ Comments.
Microsoft response - Have you turned the rolling cache on?
Seriously???
I sent them a nice (but informative) response back, and now they are asking for my console id.
Oh sounds like typical MS
At least they did not Fob you off with a “Re-Install windows” !!
Yes we would like your console id … bang banned! LOL
LOL I would like to see them try
Would be a funny post in the VAC appeals forum, I got banned in MSFS…Id love to see the responses to a thread like that.
