In theory, but I have a dogged 30MBPS (runs at 23MBPS) connection and when you run into broadband limitations in PG areas, I get a red bandwidth not enough to stream PG warning, but no stutters on PC. Usually I just hit Ignore rather than turn PG off and everything still seems fine. The fast broadband theory in my view isn’t true, but maybe it affects the XBox differently?
I’m thinking more along the lines perhaps of server side issues with MS/Xbox as I never seem to get optimal speeds at the best of times, so I’m thinking it’s their bottleneck at times and if someone already has a slower internet it’s stutter fest.
Thanks for posting the other videos for comparison. I haven’t done much testing around LA but expect I’d see the same results.
I get the same kind of hiccups and in about the same spots in London. Longer pauses so more noticeable than the ones you see in NYC. It’s also interesting how you get more stutters in NYC with the faster moving F-16 vs the C170. I believe I saw a similar increased effect when flying the P-38 low & around the buildings in NYC as well.
I’ve really been wondering about how much the server side is affecting us too. There are days when stuttering is worse when flying in the same areas with the same aircraft. Outside of changing monitor settings there isn’t much Xbox users can do to be different from one another. So, it’s hard to explain without looking at an outside factor.
BTW, I’ve also settled on 4K/60Hz/VRR as the best settings for the X with my monitor.
After the new update it seems that the photogrammetry is requiring much more band than before. I usually had a good experience also with my 14 mega connection. Now it looks like I’m having a 2 mega, all the building don’t charge textures etc. Does anyone notice this? Ok I have a poor connection, but if before it was almost good… Why now it’s not so?
thats pretty good…hehe
i have to try with the spit.
If you are using a cache make sure to delete it and rebuild.
I run with cache off
Thanks for replying me… Sorry for the stupid question, how can I do what you said? After the update I don’t have the section in the settings that I had before (where choosing things about networks etc)
Hmmm, that’s interesting. I will check mine tonight.
I’ve been running with cache on @ 16GB - so I guess that’s one of the other few things Xbox users can vary that I didn’t think of earlier besides things like scenery add-ons.
I usually use NYC and London for the torture testing but that’s mainly due to old habits. Those two cities were brutal in my PC / FSX days. The whole sim, including those two cities & smooth game play, are much improved on the Xbox from those days.
Thanks! I’m on Xbox series x, don’t know if that can change something. Anyway the game run much more smoother, but the problem about the band required for me is vey bad if the photogrammetry now is heavier…
I would also join to this…how can I set this on xbox series x?
I tried my series x on a 1080p tv at 1080 res. No different- still stutters
I’m finding that life traffic really causes a lot of stutter, even when it’s only 4 or 5 nearby aircraft. Seems like it’s quite taxing for just a few distant lights and flying cardboard aircraft? Hitting a port with a ton of Global Shipping detailed ships barely makes a difference, but two aircraft on the ground and three in the air nearby with only first party airports in view notably chugs the system.
Aircraft are more complexly modeled in MSFS. Both systems and graphics.
So, compared to the cars with octagonal wheels, planes tax both the GPU and CPU.
Keep I mind that SU8 also added departing live traffic which had been missing, so there could have been a bit of an impact there too.
It is of course another option to reduce CPU liad (or at least try to) on xbox. You all should have access to traffic sliders. You could try reducing them down from 100. I have my vehicles, airport traffic, airport workers and some shipping all dialed back to as low as 20 in some cases. I barely notice that there are less in gane, there are still plenty around.
It’s maybe worth giving it a shot in xbox if any of you haven’t already. AI traffic is a known CPU load increaser on PC.
Just wondering if you’ve done any testing with live traffic off and AI traffic on to see if it’s related the streaming data about the air traffic? If so, what were your thoughts?
There have been a couple of times I’ve disabled live traffic and thought it made a difference but then other times no appreciable difference. Since there are times I subjectively feel there is a difference that is also one of the reasons I wonder about server load affecting everyone at times. (I think this would apply to PC users as well as Xbox users.)
Considering how little detail is rendered, versus say Global Shipping models, which have virtually zero effect even within lod where you can see the detailed shipping containers and cranes, as soon as 4 or more aircraft are within reasonable radar range, it gets chugged. Particularly if more than a few are showing tags at once. And we’re talking three dots of lights or the simple models(where there may already be multiples in view at the gates). Even a place like Anchorage when there are a few it gets laggy. I’ll have to try some areas without it on. I really just want other aircraft in the skies, even if the best MSFS can muster is half a dozen(where at IAD you can clearly see 15+ aircraft lined up on finals alone on any given sunday). I also think the tags themselves cause some lag, even if you have lots of POI tags showing at once. Without the tags it’s notably better.
My connection is fine, even in MSFS I download from their servers at anywhere from 300-725mbs, and never have above a 5 ping(i think 5 is the lowest it will show). From DC even the west coast for me pings at 30 and Europe severs at 70.
I haven’t even tried to see if there is ANY AI aircraft in that mode at all. I’ll fly a bit without live traffic. It’s definitely distinctive from other types of lag/stutters, such as data drop in lod burps and re-cashing in textures when sweeping 360 views around an aircraft(which is a LOT to ask of anything to render smoothly-like loading an entire GTAV city into view in seconds). And the way MSFS suddenly starts drop kicking in aircraft at busy airports on a longer flight, you can tell it’s started. Seems like it always pops in at a little wave, then a few miles later nothing in the skies again and it clears up.
I fly with live traffic on and the sim runs smooth and don’t see any difference when I turn it off
Here are my settings:
