I experienced the rolling cache setting disappearing on me too but just once. Go to ‘manage games and add-ons’ and delete reserved space. The rolling cache setting will reappear but you’ll have to reinstall all the WUs and any add-ons you bought. Your settings may also be reset.
Worth a shot. However, no use setting your rolling cache that high - it will struggle to even fill up the 100 GB but we’re doing it simply to distribute the load so to speak and just help the sim run a little smoother and with less hiccups.
Don’t forget to clear your rolling cache once the next WU hits!
@Raynen Some help here please, kind Sir! Does one need to delete the rolling cache file for WUs only or every time there’s any kind of game update? Many thanks.
I’m just now thinking to try this but got one more question: how about the flight hours and the flights recorded in the logbook? Are those kept at least?
Sorry to post as a reply here, but I’m a new member and can’t create a topic yet. I have an Xbox Series S, and the game itself seems to run well enough for me, but I noticed after having installed World Updates, certain objects that should be 3D rendered actually show up as a flat bitmap that looks like a satellite view (complete with its shadow) on the ground instead of the 3D object. This is particularly glaring to me in Barcelona since I expect to see Sagrada Familia and Torre Agbar dominating the skyline as in real life. I searched the web and these forums for an answer to this specific question and can’t find anything about it. I was wondering if I might have a setting wrong or if it’s just a problem with Xbox itself.
if i understand your issue it seems like photogrammetry not loading properly; not a big issue since it can happen and usually server/user “internet” related
take a look in your sim option to see if photogrammetry is enabled (should be by default); maybe try to spawn again in barcelona a couple of time and see if it’s persist
Thanks. I’m guessing my Series S might be the problem. I found a YouTube video that shows what the General Options tab should look like with many, many options. On my Xbox I only have one graphics option and that’s for HDR10, which is disabled. “Disabled” meaning it’s greyed out and I can’t even change it. Can anyone confirm is this is all the (lack of) control you get when running on a Series S? Thanks!
Hi sorry to hear you having issues im using it on my pc but my lad has it on his xbox series x but it runs like a dream on his we have had no crashes and stutters yet to be honest our internet runs good too with 100mbs
I thought it was quite enjoyable before SU9 and the hot mess that is. I just turned the cache off and that fixed any kind of stutter for me, especially coming in to land. Since SU9, plane won’t fly IFR, nav paths, ILS’s, VFR map doesn’t work, the MFD freezes; can’t search for NAVAIDS on world map; disaster.
I went back again and found the Photogrammetry setting under “Data” instead of “Graphics.” Turned it off and back on again – still see the same flattened buildings. They looked like this even before the Italy update, so maybe it’s one of the buried settings I don’t even know to look for. I’m thinking maybe I just need to open a case with Microsoft.
Thanks!
*** UPDATE ***
I flew over to the cruise ship terminal and did the same test. When I switched Photogrammetry off (while paused mid-flight) the cruise ships changed and took on the same appearance as the flattened buildings, i.e. they looked flat, painted onto the earth rather than the 3D ship models. Switching it back on restored their 3D appearance. This doesn’t affect the 3D buildings the same way so this seems like it might be linked to photogrammetry but doesn’t behave quite the same as the control in the Data section.
Have you tried changing out the hdmi cable for a better / new one? My HDR used to be greyed out, and then I bought a good cable, and it works all the time now.
I have the same internet speed here and have very few problems… I do see melted blobs instead of buildings but they eventually load. Especially if I’m flying a low speed aircraft.
Set your rolling cache between 32-64, because the more frequently you visit a location, the lower the chances of scenery looking like a wasteland, as of flattened by a nuke or something.
I am, however, on the Series X so not sure if there’s a difference in texture detail and fidelity between the two.
Personally I haven’t had many ctds, but I do find it hard to enjoy due to performance. It just feels a bit choppy when flying around and I notice a fair few stutters.
I’d take a graphics nerf if it meant a smoother time.
Hoping FSR 2.0 will give us the performance boost we so direly need. It can totally happen. Asobo and Microsoft just need to follow through, that’s all.
I upped the rolling cache to 32GB and returned to the Barcelona location but so far the flat buildings look the same. The best description I can think of is that it seems like the textures are there, but the wireframe they’re supposed to be applied over is missing. Kind of like a Santa Claus decoration on the lawn when you turn off the fan that keeps it inflated.
Now I’m starting to wonder if my download of the Spain update is just corrupted somehow. I decided to look at Italy and found that there are a number of buildings in Venice that are definitely being rendered properly in 3D using photogrammetry, so I don’t think it’s a settings issue. More experimentation…
i had some problem with swiss (pink textures replacing photogrammetry), an uninstall and reinstall did solve my issue back then. You might want to try, shouldn’t be too much of a bother as download size
I always thought it was some kind of bug but after seeing people playing it on their PCs at 60+ fps, I noticed how the green horizontal lines in HUDs still moved at a slower fps. Makes sense
Reminds me of Forza Motorsport 5 actually when it debuted … The rear view mirror and hood reflections were 30fps I believe.
Thanks for the explanation
Ah, I see what the problem is. Delete your reserved space. This will delete all the WUs along with your rolling cache file.
On your 50mbps connection - I’m assuming it’s fibre optic - it shouldn’t take too long. If you’re not bothered about storage space, set the rolling cache at 64gb or even 100gb. The advantage to this is that buildings may look like melted blobs only for the first time and as you fly over a location and then fly there again… Everything will already be there in the cache.
Is anyone else using your internet while you play the game?
Can you also post some screens and a gameplay video or two so we can see how the textures load?
When was the last time you gave your console a full hard reset? Do you always do a full shutdown and cold boot between sessions?
