The only hard part with this is that while one individual add-on may work perfectly with the sim, five different ones by five different developers may crash it. So far so good for me since the SU15 update, but just thinking if you have an airport, plane, scenery, and something else installed by 4-5 different developers, it could be hard to test for that since most developers are only testing their stuff.
Why not a list with what is safe or rated as functional. Likes etc could be used a votes of support for it.
From my limited experience though, it’s the combination of add-ons that can be an issue on Xbox..
Apart from planes I’m now Vanilla. Easier.
Agree, it’s impossible for now to testing, because of huge amount of content on market. As for me, overall performance is better after SU15, but never know where is black screens problem will appear, have to be avoided scenery, when BS (or even CTD) occured.
Black screens after this new update way more constant then before on my end after this update today
As soon as I click copy secondary I get CTD on A320v2
I’ve long said now that the Xbox experience ‘robs Peter to pay Paul’. The limitations dictate that each gain means something is lost elsewhere. They’ve done all they can with FS2020. Xbox users have to hope the new code used for FS2024 is much more hardware-friendly.
Regarding black screens and CTDs, SU15 has fixed pretty much all of this for me. Even when the screens go black now, it’s usually just a delay when I turn on an airliner and then it takes like 30-60 seconds at the very latest if it doesn’t come up right away.
About the issues with XBox, I have a feeling the push for 2024 will do exactly that. I think 2020 was designed to see what it would take to use the existing and slightly updated code from FSX and maximize it to get used to the platform.
2024 sounds like it’s taking what they learned, updating the tech/code and actually maximizing the console with limited to no restrictions. I personally don’t have many complaints because as a huge fan of the old MSFS series I’m really glad they brought it back and expanded on many things that weren’t available previously. But I also hope they continue to push the envelope with what they are doing from a tech perspective to max out what the console can do.
I wonder if Xbox consoles were in mind when they first imagined the reboot of MSFS2020 or did Spencer hijack and say guys make it work on the Xbox.
I for one will never invest heavily in a new gaming PC because I believe the MS vision and indeed the future widely is for cloud gaming based games …
Even if not purely cloud based…much of the heavy work will be done at game sever end - meaning pretty much any device can access.
Definitely the way it’s headed. Doubt will see another console released by Xbox (possibly one more if they’ve started).
I’m pretty sure Xbox was somewhat of an afterthought. Even if it wasn’t, the primary platform I think was always envisaged as PC.
2024 of course is different, with a much heavier emphasis on console performance. I still imagine there’ll be limitations, compared to PC, but they’ll be less troublesome than they are now.
The performance after SU15 is terrible on my series x. I mainly fly the PMDG 737 and NEVER had black screens in that aircraft before. Now 2 flights and two times black screens and no recovery. Last one was after landing in Tromsø where I also never had issues before. I fly the MSFS since 2002 and since X and now MSFS its one of the worst gaming experiences I had…
Sadly not in my case. I hopped back onto the XSX after seeing in the SU15 notes that Xbox performance has been improved. Haven’t been in over a year and I decided to load it up. Brought up the 787, loaded at gate at EGLL, for a flight to KLAX, and various addons like pushback toolbar, static aircraft etc.
Give or take 20-30 mins at the gate, BOOM, CTD. Just right before push back.
This summarises my experience with MSFS on Xbox ever since its launch.
Time and time again, I’ve said again and again on this forum in the face of angry replies, that the XSX really isn’t strong enough to handle MSFS. Hopefully it’ll be a different matter with MSFS2024.
I guess I’ll hop back into the PC and continue playing MSFS from there.
Microsoft seems shameful to me that this continues to happen on studio planes and paid airports! In Xbox Series S, what’s going on? This product is not prepared for this console, don’t take it out!!!
Sorry to hear that. The only thing I can recommend to try again is the following:
- Delete your rolling cache file
- Restart your Xbox
- Create a new rolling cache file with 8-16 GB
- Restart your Xbox
- Load back in and try to input your flight
Only other thing I did before SU15 was released was a clean install of MSFS. Once SU15 was released, I loaded all of my add-ons again and personally haven’t had many, if any, issues at all. That being said, success rate seems to be extremely random based on what some have said here. Half of the people seem to be like me and having no issues, the other half are having similar issues to what you are having. Wish they could be pinpointed to what exactly is causing those issues that you guys are having.
Fingers crossed for MS2024.
Probably will be similar issues. Hope not.
Re-install the entire sim. That is all you need to do, if you have the premium deluxe version, do not install the stuff you do not use
I recently purchased the premium deluxe version in my xbox series s 1 tb version in order to use the 787-9 4 Simmers, however I can’t use because Heavy lagging, stuttering, black screens and in the worst of case crash and abruptly close.
I know xbox series s Is not powerful enough for msfs, I going to move to series x, but in the mid time I can do something? I love so much this simulator and is the only reason to still have a xbox or any other Microsoft product.
ALSO the 787 of premium deluxe is unplayable on xbox series s right now, I got a lot of Black Screens, crashes
(Kick me out to Xbox Menu).
I already delete all and re installed in vanilla mode, after that Graphics improved a little bit, but however, until I can love to series x or better, to a PC gamer, I just want some help in order to use the 787 of the premium deluxe that I already purchased.
Any help or advice that you can give just for minimum use on my xbox series s until I get the series x I will appreciate so much.

Ok I’m at my wits end here. It takes forever to get past the flight sim 40th anniversary screen and now its stuck on checking for updates. What is going on…? What in lord thundering Jesus has happened to the SIM since SU15 and that NAV. Data update,I can’t use my SIM on Xbox. Not happy here.
- What is MSFS installed on? The regular hard drive or an external?
- Which region are you in? Curious if it’s a server issue.
- Is this a brand new install of MSFS?
I haven’t had any issues on my Series X, but I know a few of the above questions may help pinpoint the cause of the issues you are having, especially if it’s server related.
When I am stuck in the update screen I go back to the Xbox homescreen (xbox buttom), then go back directly into FS without restarting it. Solved the issue every time.
I also always completely close ( = remove from quick resume) the sim after every session.
This worked for me too!
But the last days I’ve had no problems.
Installed on both X an S consoles
I live in Ontario, I get from: (East server in NY)
Not a new Install
Standard content only plus 4 aircraft
