Xbox - what hardware accessories you using to add immersion?

Being constantly envious of MCDU, FCU, WinWing etc. hardware add-ons to enhance flight immersion, I wonder what people are using to build their own XBox flight environments? Given the closed space of XBox, seems we’re locked out from a lot of the glory stuff.

Hi, well the Xbox is not that limited if you choose the right airplane
Look here.
There’s not much I’m missing.

In addition to some of the stuff listed above, I use the TM Boeing TCA Quadrant, an MSFS specific keyboard from EditorsKeys in the UK, and a simple USB mouse with scroll wheel.

A Series X is very nearly a middling PC, and a better choice than an entry level PC, so one is not that limited as one might at first think. OTOH home cockpit builders will go PC for sure!

Hi FrankO7109… I have a couple of questions about your setup. I too am running on XBOX X. I’m using Velocity One Yoke and Rudder Pedals … MIAP24 PRO and keyboard and mouse. I also use a powered 4 port USB hub. My specific question is how your MIAP24 Pro behaves in your setup. Have you had any issues with the MIAP24? Mine was working as expected on MSFS 2020 and 24 until I flashed the AXAIR latest firmware. (on AXAIR Facebook page) Now it seems to output wrong or incomplete key codes. Yes, I am working with the AXAIR folks. I’m just wondering if you have flashed your MIAP24 Pro firmware and what your experience has been? (I might be asking this in the wrong place)

Hi Jhrober,
I had quite some problems with the MIAP. I am still on FS2020 and to be honest the first try to use it was a complete disaster. Nothing worked. The MIAP is picky about the cable that is used to connect it to the Xbox. The one that I use to sync my iPad didn’t work. But eventually I had it connected and FS2020 was up and running.

Very few actions on the MIAP showed up in the controls options of FS and some of them did very strange things. The culprit in my case was the default keyboard profile. It did contain only a few of the standard keyboard assignments of FS and some of them were conflicting.

So I checked that every button/dial on the MIAP sent a keystroke (no matter what) at all. Then I made a new empty keyboard profile and started from scratch. It took a while but then it all worked as designed.
I don’t use much of the default assignments and have reassigned many buttons/dials to my personal needs. I don’t use autopilot and have changed the Com1/Nav1 frequency dial to operate Com1/Com2 instead for instance.

I have never thought about flashing the firmware because it is not necessary imo. I f an element on the MIAP sends a keystroke at all you can use FS’s control options to bind it to what you want it to do. Yes, this is laborious but it is much less prone to error than tinkering with the firmware.

FrankO7109. Thank you for responding… very interesting. Am I to understand your MIAP also didn’t always produce the expected keystroke (code) as shown in the MIAP24 Pro documentation? By chance did you contact AXAIR for support? It sounds like your workaround has been successful though. As I said mine was working OK on 2020 and 2024 until I flashed it with the latest firmware. I “figured” new firmware generally is a good thing. Hmmmm… what to do.

Hi,

yes but that might have been caused by the cable. As I said, the first one didn’t work properly. With the working cable all was fine but a lot of the keystrokes the MIAP sent to FS had no bindings associated in FS’s control options.
And as I had to assign them myself anyway I thought it might be better I start from scratch.
And no I didn’t contact AXAIR support. It wasn’t necessary.

Thank you for the input!

I use a basic setup VelocityOne flightstick (modded spring for a better feel) and a mouse and keyboard.

I am hoping to upgrade to a yoke, throttle and rudder pedals set up in the near future.

Not hardware related but when picking my flight I like to go on YouTube and find that airline’s safety video so when I’ve pushed back and taxiing to the runway, I play it for my “passengers”.

Greetings everyone , having been absent since the late 80’s , I just got 2024 for the pc.

as of now I am using the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas full kit , and trying to purchase the Editors key , unfortunetly it’s back ordered . as I turn 67 soon , my memory is going down like my first flight 3 days ago :0 . I left them a email , but have not heard from them .

add to that 2024 does not save settings and it’s hard to set up that thrustmaster to mimick the keyboard . sure wish they sold a settings package for the cessna 185 .

IF this is the wrong forum , my apologies

best regards

IMO the headset is one of the most important things, the immersion and reality u can get with Dolby Atmos sounds ramped up in your ears changes everything
