Xbox X vs Nvidia 4000 series laptop

Hello friends, I would like to know what are you thinking about a future laptop for MSFS2020 with Nvidia serie 4000?

I belive that serie 4000 portable next year probaly will be ok for MSFS2020.
No doubt that Xbox X handles graphics ok, and for only 499 bucks is fantastic…to have something similar to an Nvidia 3070 (today) in my opinion, not bad because it’s something that was not there in 2019.

But technology advances, I think that the Nvidia series 4000 in a portable pc could be already perfectly to move MSFS2020 today, (I use one Xbox X…) I started with pc portable Nvidia 1060…Xbox Serie S…now Serie X. .. I saw some videos using Nvidia 3080…not bad… But still not good enough to replace the Xbox X, because it’s almost the same. (Graphically)
The Xbox X it’s just 499€
Probably a good laptop for MSFS 2020 will start around 1.500€ maybe it’s time to go back and use a laptop again, thanks, see ya.

Hello there! If I understand correctly, you’re asking about viable portable options? If so, definitely laptop if you want to mod the sim to the hilt. Of course, if you’re not interesting in modding anything substantially and just flying about, Xbox is fine.

I would say laptop but only if you planned to replace your own device anyway. It’s not worth buying a hugely expensive gamer laptop just for one title. If you play on PC anyway, though, then go for it.

Hello, there are some laptop with 3070, 3080 for viable price today but still works like Xbox X… Maybe the Nvidia serie 4000 for laptop will be a huge diference.
I need to compare some videos in the future, but I belive that will works fine, I saw some videos (laptop with 3080) and looks great… But like Xbox X.
But unfortunately we don’t have PMDG and Fenix for Xbox.

Keep in mind that laptop graphics cards are not equivalent to their desktop counterparts. For example, a laptop 4080 would not be the same as a desktop 4080, which would be far superior than the laptop version, and in part for this reason I can’t recommend a laptop over a desktop. On paper memory specs may look the same, but look at power draw for all you need to know.

And laptop cooling when msfs is running your cpu and gpu at 90+°C…. Not good.

Exactly, but in 2019 a laptop with an Nvidia 2080 was not less than 2.000€, (it was the best gamer graphics card at the time)but today there are laptop offers with an Nvidia 3070 for 800€…" not 2K screen but not bad at all"… I could sell the Xbox X, I only use it for MSFS2020.
I am still waiting for see the news laptops…but I was thinking maybe a laptop with Nvidia 4000 will be a god choice.
We don’t have Fenix and PMDG for Xbox… The supposed DC 6 until with oficial video… I’ve been waiting for I don’t know how long time. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Hi there, i would like to add some hopefully supportive and money saving advice when talking about gaming laptops. I purchased myself a well known gaming laptop for running flightsim, xplane etc. The laptop performed amazingly and was well cared for by myself. It also sat on an additional cool tray full of fans. However it could not cope with the heat generated when doing long flights. After about 18 months it cooked itself and with it being a laptop with a 1070 soldered to the board i couldn’t find anyone to take on a repair. Invest your hard earned money in a desktop if you are going down that road, at least if faults develop they can be easily repaired.

Hi, that’s why I say, I don’t trust YouTube videos very much… but apparently almost everything works in ultra 4K with an Nvidia 3080 laptop… That’s why I prefer to wait the 4000 series should work very well since it should be better than the previous version.
*In 2020 I had tried with a 1060 laptop … and did not work very badly, far from working well as with the X series. Nowdays maybe will be posible to play in ultra with new laptop, I don’t know… I don’t want to make the same mistake in 2019…with laptop 1060 (was new).

Judging by pics of a 4090 this laptop’s gonna be the size of a suitcase

Maybe it’s a trap  there are Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 16GB GDDR6 for laptop.
Very expensive :frowning:
But runs like Xbox X performance.

As someone who uses MSFS on a laptop, I cannot suggest it. They don’t manage heat like a desktop computer, and MSFS is a CPU hog as well as GPU reliant, so it will make your laptop hot, and throttle it.

A desktop is worthy of consideration. Cheaper than a laptop, and faster than an Xbox and a laptop.

You can run MSFS on a laptop but for the money, it will always run better on a desktop.

And the Xbox is a steal, but there are some disadvantages to simming on console, too. That said, I quite enjoy MSFS on Xbox.

Trying to be humble about this, but I am firmly on the desktop side of things here. I loved the “cooked itself” reference. Longer term, a laptop likely won’t survive the load/heat. I get the feeling though, that the OP really wants a laptop anyway, no matter what. If that desire is for other uses, then I could (again, humbly) recommend a desktop with a good case and cooling system for MSFS. However, a slimmed down version of MSFS without all the add-ons and Ultra settings should run fine on a decent, but not too expensive laptop for the OP’s portability needs. Two MSFS subscriptions not required. Could this be the best of both worlds? Thanks. --Redeye

Well, if you’re not into doing every possible mod, xbox will run it fine on a 4K HDR 55" tv a couple feet from your face and look incredible. It is also like all other consoles, with standardized hardware, games get BETTER over the years on the same platform as they optimize them.

Most computer software is just thrown at you and dares you to buy enough hardware to run it well, when really with true optimization it would likely only need a fraction of the hardware you are running it on. But they never do that. Their next game comes out and requires you to spend another few thousand to push whatever pixels they just vomit into your GPU, no mater how unnecessarily bloated it may be. That game you had to buy a complete new setup for looks dated again in just a couple years. Then the next card gen runs it at 200fps.

I have had gaming computers since the 486DX, gave up a couple years ago when cards became artificially inflated 3-4X their actual worth-just because they can. What costs you $4500 right now is still only about $1800 worth of computer. I’m flabbergasted that this game even exists on a console, and runs smooth as silk now with a 55" two inches behind the yoke. And 5years from now, it will run even better, without a penny in additional hardware. Plus the rest of the kickin-back world of Xbox, of course. A series X is cheap as chips.

I actually like being stuck in a world where I don’t spend hundreds of hours tinkering, flying takes up enough time as it is. I also have a Fanatec racing setup that takes about 1 minute to become a F1 driver, also with that 55" monitor, one more minute it’s an FPS keyboard and mouse, another minute it’s 4+ people crashed on the couch with it. Don’t think I could go back to anything less than 55" in 4K now. In two years the next F1 game will look much better yet again without having to touch one setting on the 'box. It just gets better.

Plus if you buy a desktop when the price premium of bitminers in a chip shortage dies down, everything you bought for the xbox version just dropkicks right onto the desktop. And the box still handles drunken Battletoads with friends just fine. Most of what I miss on desktop is that you can get actual radio towers and loads of other environmental enhancement bits to flesh the game out on PC.

Yes, thanks to all for the advice!
I will continue using the Xbox X, I really cannot say there are many differences using a laptop with Nvidia 3080 and the Xbox X. :+1: :+1: :+1:
