Its Yorkshire Day this Saturday - 1st August. For those of you who may not have heard of this great celebration - basically it celebrates the biggest & best county in England - Yorkshire!
So anyone doing any flyions or trips to celebrate?

I will have a go at working out a trip, I am not sure I could do it via the events section, but i will post a flight plan, etc and if anyone wants to have a go it should be good fun. Flatcaps obligatory.

Slightly OT, but did anyone know that Robert Mugabe was from Yorkshire?
To disguise the fact, he spelt his name backwards.
That is what my late Father-in-law always said to me ee-ba-guM lol, even he knew that one, and I’m originally from Zimbabwe, well Rhodesia. And it was a well known fact that Mugabe went to University in the U.K and rumours back in the day was he owned a Castle in Scotland! That said I’m currently in S Yorkshire, my mom was born in Yorkshire, my Dad was born in Derbyshire right down south 
, so I’m all for Yorkshire Day!
Ok as promised here is a plan for a trip around Yorkshire for Yorkshire day 1st August 2026. It starts at Eddsfield airfield on the Yorkshire Wolds (EGWO), nice airfield from the Marketplace, although only a few parking spaces. I like it as it does resemble the real place, the flight takes you to Filey on the coast (my home town). You can see a small lake on approach – we are next to that, so give us a virtual wave! Filey is a small seaside town, but as you fly along the coast you can see where the old roman signal station was on the coast sticking out. Next we have Scarborough, with its castle. It is celebrating 400 years since becoming a seaside destination, it also has a roman signal station near the castle. You also pass by the cricket ground which is used by Yorkshire County Cricket club. We head inland now towards the North York Moors and a village called Goathland, famous for the TV series Heartbeat and the Hogwarts in Harry potter. You can also see an area of buildings on the left on the top of the moors – RAF Flyingdales – home to a large radar station. The sim does not represent this correctly as the domes are famous. In the 1960’s they were golf ball shaped, now they look like a sandcastle bucket. A few miles on and in the woods, near a small lake there is a clearing – the site of Cawthorne Camps – a roman training ground. You can clearly see the impression of two square forts in the ground.
You also pass Wombleton Airfield, a typical 1940’s RAF station with the three runways. Code is EGHX. Further on we have Castle Howard not Howard Castle as the sim shows, it’s a family home for the castle family. The sim does do the house and gardens well, and the various folly’s in the grounds. Next we pass York – the minister is clear, but no photogrammetry, so the other areas are not realistic. You can see the racecourse and new football ground though.
Leaving both the coast and Moors we travel to the Yorkshire Dales, passing villages and reservoirs, and Harrogate famous for Bettys Tearooms and spring water. In the distance you can see the Ribblehead viaduct, famous for steam train excursions. Crossing the dales you have good views of the distance and sometimes the coast, when I tried this route I had poor visibility of around 10 miles, low cloud and bad turbulence. There are lots of views, plus other things to see.
Finally you come to Skipton and Leeds – not very realistic but the finish is Leeds Bradford Airport, if you have an add on it looks really good, and as Leeds does have photogrammetry, the approach is fantastic.

Weird actually, at the weekend I was doing some runs through the Hope Valley from the Sheffield end in the Chinook.
I know Holmfirth quite well, it’s in a stunning part of the country!

I am a UK southerner by your standards (East Sussex). Glad you have sense of humour on this I am a big fan of rural North Yorkshire by the way. Parts of it are stunning ie Horton in Ribblesdale etc. as for the offer of participating in Yorkshire day…I am not so sure how safe it would be as I assume general aviation flying would still be considered witchcraft in those parts. I would worry too much about my engine cutting out and being forced to land in ‘hostile’ territory.
Hahahaha I just imagine the weighing scales scene in Monty Python HG, “a witch!!!” All mangled up in a plane wreck trying to escape lmao.
