Your Current TOP 10 Aircraft

Context?

Is it on sale?
Is it your favorite aircraft?
I don’t understand :sob:

Context it that it was recently released.

Which means?

Means that he’s informing us about the price.

Is that a good price?

I’m sorry, I don’t understand what this has to do with this thread or anything in particular. I don’t see anyone asking for the price of anything. I’m not doubting it’s important information, but without a couple of sentences saying how excited he is or we should be or whatever, why would anyone say that???

Was being slightly deliberately obtuse ;), but half the time people seem to forget the original DH even existed! which makes me sad, because it was a very good company even after merging into HS - the DH division brought us the Trident, the Hs.125 ( which Hawker Beechcraft were still building not long ago ) and the BaE 146

At least the Vixen had fur!

MOSQUITO!!!

And it has fur, too, right?

And, hey, even the Dragon Rapide was a cool plane! And some Dragons have fur I believe

No one is going to forget DeHavilland

The PMDG 737-900 was just released (price is $49.99 on their website for anyone interested). I don’t own it yet, but I have -700, it’s on my top ten. This one will no doubt be on many top ten lists.

Sorry, I’ve been accused of “talking too much but saying too little” in my past life. And been told “the smallest violin plays the world’s sweetest song,” whatever that means?

Anyways, PMDG’s aircraft are by far the most study level, detailed and realistic aircraft and virtual cockpits I’ve seen or owned in FS9, FSX, P3D and now MSFS. I guess Fenix A320 drivers would beg to differ, but I don’t have one of those yet. Maybe I should get the Fenix instead of the just released 737-900, since I have the -700 already? What I am really waiting for is their 747-400 “Queen of the Skies” which has always been my favorite and has something special about it that makes it so immersive and realistic.

I recently bought a Reverb G2 VR headset, unfortunately I don’t have a system to do it justice yet, a very marginal RTX 3060ti. (Recently someone said HP was going to stop making VR headsets but I hope they at least keep supporting the Reverb.) All that to say, I’m anxious to someday use VR in the PMDG 747-400 and it will definitely make my top ten, maybe even surpass the “Wilga” lol :joy: (I mean after I get the Wilga, which apparently is inevitable.)

You say you don’t fly bush planes, eh?

I hope PMDG makes a 747 version with “tundra tires” will that count?

Well, I for one very much appreciate your added context!

Perhaps I shouldn’t ask this here, but, I will… So, I’m more of a GA flyer, but if I were to be a tuber, and I do ponder it once in a while as I’d love to know what it takes to go from A to B and get to know all the systems… Is there a difference between the 800 and 600 besides the number of pax and range? Are the systems pretty much the same from a piloting point of view?

P.S. I have a Reverb G2 gen 2 and it works great for the most part with my 3080TI/11700/64GB/2X 1TB SSD (plus lots of disks for further storage) system and MSFS. Absolutely love it for GA. Stepping out on to the wing of the Warrior and looking at the gasket around the door, looking around, peering over the side of the Tiger Moth and other open cockpit planes. Looking around so easily. I keep trying to touch things, lol. I just wish there was a way of capturing what I see with both eyes in a single screen capture.

P.P.S. the 747 absolutely has a place in my heart as well. I was very young when it came to be, and I got the chance to fly business class a few times up top and in the nose from the Boston to Asia and loved it. Such a gorgeous plane.

Well don’t get me started or I may never stop! :joy:

If anyone could be accused of going off-topic, it’s me…lol.

I haven’t put that many hours in the 600, I have that one in FSX and P3D but not in MSFS, but there is quite a bit of difference between the shorter and longer fuselage versions of the 737. Besides just a big difference in weight and thrust, in particular one thing is you need to land the 800 (and 900) at higher speed because you will strike the tail if you get too slow and hold it off. That is simulated very realistically in the PMDG, have struck the tail many times, just as real life pilots do sometimes. Fortunately there is a tail skid for too aggressive rotation on takeoff and getting too slow on landing. Even though the plane can land a lot slower, you can’t because of the long fuselage and therefore it takes up a lot more runway to slow down. But the 600 feels more like a sports car, light and agile, the 800 and 900 are like a heavy bus in comparison and there is quite a bit of cockpit differences also but not so much that they would not be familiar to anyone that has flown one or the other.

I’m quite envious of your setup with the RTX 3080TI and VR in GA planes. I learned to fly in a 172, it will always be one of my favorites, I really enjoy the WB-Sim Cessna 172 also and want to use my Reverb G2 in that!

And that you can fly with the doors off would be good. Hoping for accurate scream simulation with 3D positional Wwise audio as passengers get sucked out of the cabin or it’s a fail though!

My current TOP 10, in no particular order:

  • Carenado PA28 Archer II
  • SWS Kodiak
  • Flysimware 414 Chancellor
  • Flyingiron Spitfire
  • Asobo/WT CJ4 (post AAU1)
  • Asobo/WT TBM930 (post AAU1)
  • Asobo/Aeroplane heaven DC-3
  • Asobo/Blackbird DHC-2 Beaver
  • GotFriends Wilga (sorry Wilma!)
  • SWS Zenith

Carenado has gotten a lot of grief on the forums (and I don’t care for their C170 at all), but I gotta say that they hit it out of the park with the Archer! It looks great, it sounds great and it flies great. Highly recommended and an instant TOP3 for me.

It will come as a surprise to exactly no one, but my top plane for February 2023 is the Carenado Piper Archer II. Although the month has only just begun, I’ve already put nearly 12 hours on the Hobbs meter and have flown nothing else. By the time I hit 12 hours on the Vision Jet, I had already traversed 25 of the lower 48 states. In this plane, I have only managed to go from the Sacramento area to Portland, Oregon. But in that time, I have:

  • Taken off in IMC conditions and poked around the clouds looking for a way down near my destination, without any guarantee that one would be available
  • Changed my course completely because I saw a mountain out the side window that looked interesting
  • Taken 15+ minutes to climb up to said mountain just to orbit, constantly leaning as the engine struggled against the “high” altitude
  • Flown 500 feet off the deck at 60 knots scouring the Oregon forests for a barely visible grass strip
  • Landed at a bunch of airports for no reason other than to see the CDI needles dance on the ILS, and
  • Perfected my drone related key binds with all the extra time I have going everywhere at 100 knots.

I love the Vision Jet and all the faster, more capable planes we have access to in this sim. But my last trip across the USA felt like riding in a Cadillac on the Interstate going 80 mph on super cruise. Sure, I got everywhere fast and saw some cool views, but I hardly ever deviated from my course or struggled against anything. Flying the Archer is like driving a 1970 Plymouth Valiant on old Route 66. You have to be constantly steering, and the 3 speed auto really doesn’t want do much more than 50 mph. But you learn to drive to the conditions, and you stop whenever you see something interesting along the way. The dashboards even look similar, and the engines drone in the same agricultural but charming way.

That’s my longwinded way of saying I’ll give all 10 votes to the Archer this month. It’s really won my heart. But since that’s not how this thread works, I’ll keep the other 5 planes on my January list as well.

  • Beaver
  • Vision Jet
  • 414 Chancellor
  • Default Caravan
  • Default Zlin Savage Cub

Do you own any of the JustFlight PA28’s? How does the Archer compare with those?
