Yeah, I’m sure you’re right – that makes sense. I do remember having to push the yoke pretty hard during a go-around while bringing the flaps back up, but not all the way at first, just to keep the nose from pitching up dangerously. And like you said, all that extra drag would certainly kill any chance you had of climbing if you didn’t get the flaps cleaned up. Thanks!

Guilty again, did that once on a stop-n-go at desert airport on hot summer day. Would have been in the trees except nothing but flat sandy desert around. Was wondering why the thing wouldn’t climb until my instructor finally asked me how do you like trying to climb with 40 deg of flap still extended.

Add the 414 back on the bottom of my list, out of the box it’s pretty nice & only needs some minor correction to become very nice. Still no idea about another 4, I’m afraid.

More love for FSW’s mini-airliner Cessna 414. Pressurized turbocharged cabin class twin with more systems than most airliners. Pressurization with trim air and thermostats, additional gas fired heater, air-conditioning, de-ice, anti-ice, turbochargers, cowl flaps, mixtures, prop levers, throttles, 30K feet service ceiling at 230 knots. Add dual Garmin GTN 750s and autopilot with VNAV, it’s every bit as complicated and capable as an FMC and MCP panel in a PMDG 737 (minus the auto-throttles.) Can fly low and fast or high and faster. Great looking analog panel with high fidelity and very realistic flight model. Add FS Realistic for even more immersion in sights and sounds. I think it’s the best airplane in the sim. Will definitely keep you busy on a high altitude IFR flight, not to mention having to plan your descent and worrying about shock-cooling/cracking the cylinders on the way down. It’s a lot to handle for a single pilot airplane if you like keeping busy.

Unfortunately life has thrown me a curveball so I haven’t had time to fly at all this month. So for this month (if it’s not too late) I’ll maintain my Top 10 from last month:

Eck, hope you’re alright mate?! :worried:

Yeah, don’t worry! Big changes afoot in my work life, but in equal measures a problem and an exciting change. I had to shift my focus to sorting out what my future will be, but it’s not been all bad.

The May 2023 Charts Update

Here are the results for this month. See you next time!

:card_file_box: ==== COMPLETE CHARTS PDF PACK ==== :card_file_box:

Want to see more awesome aircraft?

You can download the entire Charts Pack as a PDF here. This file includes the main All-Time Chart and a page for every month listing all votes, so you can see aircraft that fall outside of the Top 25 above.

:link: Download the PDF here:

:speech_balloon: ====== MY SUMMARY ====== :speech_balloon:

7 new aircraft this month bringing the total ever mentioned here to 238 now:

Developer Aircraft
Taog’s Hangar AĆ©rospatiale Alouette III
Flyboy Simulations Rans S6S
AzurPoly Transall C-160
Flight Replicas PA-11 Cub Special
Deimos Inc. A-10C Thunderbolt II ā€œWarthogā€
BRsim Designs Embraer EMB121A1-Xingu II
Rara-Avis Sims Bulldog Autogyro

Interestingly the Kodiak was definitely fighting back to reclaim the top spot. Until the last few days it was nearly a tie, but the last few posts have given the C414 it’s lead again but it is only a few votes gap now!

Good to see Wilma is still right up there in terms of votes in the month. The Beaver, BS King Air and JF Warrior II really made a strong appearance this month also. I expect the BAe 146 will come on more next month now it’s available on Xbox?

Not too much shift in the all-time charts this time. Top 10 have not changed position at all.

Just an observation but I am surprised how few mentions ANY Helicopters get overall. For example the great FlyInside Bell 206 only has 3 total all-time votes. Choppers really do open up the sim in a whole new way and I am amazed not more people like them. I guess some of it is that in an ideal world you would have the proper (expensive) controllers for helicopters? But I get on fine with my normal stick and Hotas throttle. Sure one day the full gear will appear on a Santa List

FINAL NOTE: The next Chart Update will be done on 2nd July as that is the nearest Sunday to the end of June

Thanks for the list, i’ll start poring over it again, as usual. (I’ve already asked my wife to hide my card until i’m done.)
As for helicopters; I find helicopters on the hard level extremely difficult to hover/ land … maybe that puts people off. On the easy level though they are fantastic.
I would have investigated the ā€˜206’ … but i can’t find my card for the eventual.

  • this was after having bought the Corsair yesterday.

Unscientific observation … aka personal option
I’m guessing that most folks are like me. We look over the ā€˜list’ to gauge what our next plane will be. The top ten list has become a consumer report. That combined with the time (in flying hours) it takes to ring out all the ā€˜lessons’ in plane type keeps the top ten fairly stable.

I’ve got two types I’d love to fly - sailplanes and helicopters but sadly I have not found a path to getting more hours in the day and I’m told by dear wife I do need to pay a bit of attention to her now and again. But when I do I’ll be on it…

I’ve found removal of wife (or equivalent significant other) component opens up a few hours here and there

I see a lot voted for the pmdg 737.
Is it worth breaking it down into variants? - perhaps one variant is significantly more popular than the others?

It is already. Check the bottom of page 1 of the downloadable PDF

The monthly is just any variant though.

Yeah, and the 3D visual cues in VR really helps for hovering. Non-centering hotas with extension for cyclic (Virpil), collective with twist throttle and idle button (Virpil), precision hall sensor rudder/anti-torque pedals (TM TPR or MFG Crosswind), Pimax Crystal with RTX 4090 is all on my wish list for helicopters.

ā€œThe first of the ninth was an old cavalry division, they had cashed in their horses for choppers and gone tear-assing around Nam looking for the SH-T!ā€

Have a great Memorial Day to all my fellow U.S. members.

What’s going on with the paper size on that pdf? Is it formatted for printing on toilet roll or something?

Except if you have a wealthy well educated wife that can increase your budget for more hardware and addons.

Set off on holiday yesterday. Taxiing down the runway at John Lennon airport, i looked out of the
window and there was a Tiger Moth with ā€˜Biggles’ climbing into the back seat on my left.
My wife had to calm down my excitement, i must have attracted too much attention - this wouldn’t have happened pre the flight simulator.

Because in general they’ve been bad. If the FI 206 is anything like the H47 it’s got half a flight model. I added Cowan’s 500E to my list because it’s probably the first one that’s managed a half decent feel and not been missing a bunch of systems like the 222 or even Cowan’s 206, and I gave my opinion of the half-excellent H145 already. A lot of FM issues aren’t the third party’s fault just as many fixed wing issues are the underdeveloped ( but way more mature ) FW modelling, but even allowing for that there’s a large distance to cover.
