Your Current TOP 10 Aircraft

“Ramming speed!”

It’s a game. I don’t know how many simulated people I’ve “killed” with crazy stunts and bad landings.

Same. Or just not feeling like waiting for the tug or using reverse thrust.

“Oop. Sorry Mr. Marshal. The TBM and I are in a hurry this morning.”

Good. There’s a stock 2024 aircraft with guns on it even (non-functional of course):

It is an issue sometimes with real aircraft as well.

I recall reading one of the restored Gloster Gladiator was being fitted with wooden replica of the guns and had a lot of trouble getting permission to install them as they conflicted with some sort of British firearm regulations that banned replica machine guns.

I’m pretty positive I have ran over a few airport ground vehicles in the sim, I’m also just thinking of how many mountains I’ve hit in the sim with the Cessna CJ4 while on autopilot as well

It’s been several months since I updated my top 10. I’m continuing the multi-category rating system that @kengou1 originally pioneered, and I modified it based on the things I value most in add-on planes:

  1. Flight Model Accuracy and Feel
  2. Sound
  3. Simulation Detail
  4. Enjoyment and Desire to Fly

I keep a spreadsheet of all the add-ons I’ve purchased and my ratings and comments in all four categories. I returned to the spreadsheet today and updated the ratings for all aircraft. Here’s the updated ranking:

  1. A2A Simulations Comanche: Not much needs to be said. This earns a perfect score in all four categories. It’s such a complete and deep simulation. And the engine simulation is best-in-class for all piston aircraft in my hangar.
  2. COWS DA42: This is tied with the A2A Comanche with a perfect score. The plane has been substantially updated since launch with improvements to the 3D model, flight model, and custom engine indications on the G1000. It also has a checklist on the G1000 MFD. The new flight model is SUPERB. This is one of the nicest GA aircraft to hand-fly. Very highly recommended.
  3. Just Flight BAe-146: I’ve loved this plane since childhood, despite never having the chance to be a passenger in one. The newly-added UNS-1 FMS is quite useful and easy-to-use. The plane is a challenge to fly well, with so many analog systems that need to be managed. But it’s very satisfying when I can nail an approach and landing. Sounds are top-notch also.
  4. Black Square Turbine Duke: Fantastic aircraft with systems depth, excellent performance, and good sounds. I held off for a long time buying it due to the price and the fact that it seemed ridiculously overpowered. But after doing more reading about the real-world turbine Duke, I started to understand the appeal. Definitely a favorite.
  5. Black Square TBM850: Fast, beautiful, and the analog systems require practice and work to fly well. I actually like the sounds in this plane quite well, even though they are reused from the stock TBM930. The only slight drawback is that the beta sounds are very faint and non-existent in parts of the beta range. But the startup sounds are phenomenal. It also takes a while to run through the preflight checklists with so many systems to test, but I’ve gotten used to the flow and can accomplish the checklist in less time now. This plane is tied with the Turbine Duke in my ranking.
  6. Simworks PC-12: I truly love the flight model in this airplane. I know it’s controversial, and I admit that the yaw behavior is a bit wonky (the airplane seems to have too much inertia in the yaw axis, requiring a lot of pedal input to stay coordinated). But once I accepted that this was a compromise that the developer made to get other aspects of the flight model right, I stopped focusing on it and started learning to fly it. I still feel that this is a far more stable flight model than any other GA plane I’ve flown in the sim. It isn’t thrown around like a paper airplane. It cuts through turbulence and has inertia. This plane is tied with the Turbine Duke and TBM850 in my ranking.
  7. Flysimware 414AW Chancellor: Still a favorite, and still makes my top-10. It is tied with the Duke, TBM850, and PC-12 in my ranking, and I’ve put it in 7th place because it has largely been replaced by those airplanes in my recent flying. The turboprops have better performance, and in real-life, the old twin-engine piston planes seem to be disappearing in favor of turboprops. The flight model and sounds of this airplane are still well-done, though, and when I came back to it a couple months ago, it was still enjoyable.
  8. PMDG 737-700 (and 900). I don’t do a lot of airliner flying, but this ranks well for the categories I care about. The extra ground vehicles and equipment that come with the plane are fun for me, because I don’t have GSX.
  9. Blackbird Simulations 310R: This remains a favorite, and I have more hours on it than many other planes in the sim. Sounds are top-notch. I like the flight model, but now that so many other planes have upped the game with flight models (the COWS DA42 is a great example), I had to drop my flight model rank for the 310R by a point. It is twitchy compared to other planes. By that, I mean that it responds more drastically to a given yoke input than other planes. It also gets thrown around by turbulence more than I like. The engine modeling is also grating on me. CHT shoots through the roof when RPM levers are full forward – even when the throttles are pulled back for landing. It also penalizes you with lots of engine wear if you operate outside the green arcs, even though experts like Mike Busch, George Braly, etc recommend operating at wide-open throttle during climb. I’ve been flying other planes more often and leaving the 310R in the hangar, but I still pull it out for a flight fairly frequently.
  10. Fenix A320: This was a recent purchase when it was on sale. Similar to the PMDG 737, it ranks well for all the categories I care about. But I don’t fly airliner routes often, so it tends to sit in the hangar.

Honorable mention: Black Square Bonanza. This is tied with the Fenix A320 in my ranking, but I left it out the top-ten because of how rarely I fly it. It’s a great airplane, but I rarely choose it over the other options in my hangar.

Well, I did make small changes over October.

So, here’s my entry for November, until the 19th!

Therefore, my 4 top aircraft now, I can’t do 5 much less 10, are:

1. FlightFX Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet
2. Inibuilds A320 v2
3. Asobo Cirrus SR22T
4. Asobo Diamond DV20

I completely missed out on the A320 on release for some reason, I really like it, enough systems depth not to be boring but not requiring an 1 hour prep.

Same with the DV20, missed it somehow, my new low and slow machine.

And as part of the disease, I always have to have a progression that makes sense for bigger birds:

PPL: DV20 (student)
IR/HP: SR22 (owner operator)
Type Rating / Turbine: SF50 (owner upgrade)

The Airbus just for kicks and recreating short airline hops: KFLL - KTPA, etc.

All will be default in 2024, so I will get off to a good start.

Let’s keep this as it is. I don’t know what to drop anymore. We need Top 25 list!
I have couple new choppers in a hangar; Alouette and H145 probably has a place in this list in a future. And where I should put Flyboy’s Rans?

  • Black Square Daher TBM 850
  • Black Square Beechcraft B60 Duke (Piston)
  • Black Square Beechcraft B60 Duke (Turbine)
  • Taog’s Hangar SA315B Lama
  • Taog’s Hangar UH-1H Huey / Bell 205
  • SimWorks Studio Quest Kodiak 100 (Kodiak and Flotiak)
  • Asobo / Blackbird DHC-2 Beaver
  • Got Friends PZL-104 Wilga 35/80 (mostly 80P and 80X variants)
  • A2A Simulations Piper Comanche 250
  • Bagolu’s Reims FR172 Reims Rocket / Cessna R172 Hawk XP II (and all the other Bagolu’s C172 mods)

Hahah. Suggestion: drop ONE of the Dukes (which do you REALLY prefer?) and Rans instead of… Beaver? It’s hard!

I like both Dukes, but Puke has better sounds and it’s a bit more complex than Tuke. We’ll see…

But whaaat, drop The Beaver? Noo, it’s impossible!
Well, it could be little bit better modeled. Hopefully FS24 bring some nice updates to Beaver.
But of course something like A2A or BKSQ level Beaver would be nice!

Really hard to send so many phantastic planes off the list, but the A380 has to go on my new list. Still alpha, still important functions missing and heavy on frame rates. But it is such an amazing work FBW have done and we all know, what we will get from them in the coming months. So here is my new one:

  1. FBW A380
  2. FSW C414
  3. FSW Sierra C24
  4. FSR M500
  5. Cows DA42
  6. FBW A320
  7. Textron Longitude
  8. Vision Jet
  9. DC-3 with the duckworks mod
  10. Just Flight 146
3 Likes

I don’t have many addon aircraft so it’s just a top 3 or 4 for me:

  1. FBW A380
  2. PMDG 737-700
  3. FBW A320
  4. LM Darkstar (from MS)

The A380 is the top one because it’s so immersive. It’s alpha and it’s that good already?! Impressive.

I wait for a good 747-400 to come along, also a study-level Concorde.

FYI, you have a spare slot because you don’t need to list the 319 and 321 separately (they are the same purchase). So because I was working on this, for now I have re-added the highest one from your previous list that you took off. That is the TBM850.

So that is counted for October for you. Feel free to change it in November! Thanks

The October 2024 Chart Results

With the 2024 version of our beloved sim now on the very close horizon, I am expecting a whole load of new aircraft to be mentioned next month but for many of them to soon drop off when the novelty wears off and as people find that their current favourite payware aircraft are still their favourites for good reason. But it will be really interesting to see which new models do stick around, and with the full reset of the Charts coming soon, it will be a good clean slate for everyone going into January.

My top,10 for Nov - and I will vote in the devs poll!

1.Black Square Piston Duke
2.Black Square Turbine Duke. The Blacksquare Dukes are fantastic to fly. Excellent systems depth combined with immersive sounds and a very realistic feeling flight model mean these are a pleasure to spend time flying. It’s also great to be able to learn to use the KNS81 nav system for a change from GPS.
3.Black Square TBM 850 : another great aircraft from Blacksquare. Much more character and systems depth than the stock TBM 930… Good to fly and it will be even better with updated sounds.
4.A2A Comanche. Enough said about this aircraft most of it true. Exceptional GA type
5.Black Box BN Trislander (G-JOEY). Love the Trislander aircraft. It’s great to fly and has excellent sounds to boot. Inter island flying with G-JOEY is always a pleasure.
6. Just Flight 146. What can I say about this one? A regional airliner that needs a lot of work to fly, beautifully modelled, immersive sound pack including that visceral roar as the flaps go down to the first position…I always remember looking up when I heard the sound. There’s a great deal to learn here but it’s worth it to be able to fly this beautifully created iconic aircraft. I’ve got a lot of hours on it, have never been bored, learn something new on every flight (not too many aircraft in the sim like that) - when picking my top icons I put in the BAC1-11 as being a top British jet icon but possibly it should have been the whisper jet. It was so quiet and comfortable compared to the competition and always looked amazing on finals with the clam shell airbrakes out. I love flying and learning the systems on this one, it’s probably my “ one must have”. Just Flight have even included background cabin announcements and music which work to increase immersion factor.
7.Just Flight F28. Close to the above… another early commuter jet with systems and sounds to match…I love it but still spend more time flying the 4-engined 146.
8.FSW Lear 35. Early jet with rocket-ship power. “Fly the plane” very relevant with this one. If you ever wonder what it feels like to get behind an aircraft this one does it in the blink of an eye. Best business jet in the sim and another with very high workload…feels very real. There’s enough systems depth to keep you very busy and an excellent set of sounds to go with it.
9.Blackbox Cessna L-19 Birddog (change from Cub). I did like the cub but despite the textures on this one needing an update (the developer seems to have abandoned a good product for no apparent reason), the flight model and sounds keep me coming back… one of my favourite tail draggers.
10. Milviz PC-6 Turbo Porter (change from C-310). I do keep coming back to this one as the flight model and systems depth are just excellent - the feeling of flight I get with the PC-6 is compelling - so are the sounds… A classy aircraft to have in the hangar. I enjoy flying this into small and awkward airfields

I’ll be more likely to be a day one buyer of the Just Flight Avro RJ than MSFS2024. My add on collection are absolute gold and who knows what the compatibility of our third party add ons will be in the new sim. Sure they might fly but will all their complex systems work the way they should without any code tweaking? As we’ve just seen how even an update can bork an aircraft ( The sad case of the Expert Series ATR), I have doubts that my top 10 will magically transfer to 2024 and work as they should do, even without new features. The sim is too complicated for that to happen seamlessly. The stock aircraft don’t have much attraction for me as my experiences and my top 10’s reflect the quality gap between third party and stock aircraft. And with way more than 1500 hours under my belt, I don’t care very much for a career mode where I’m treated like a novice- I’d have preferred it if ATC had been sorted out.

So my top tens will continue to be MSFS2020 until I’m sure that the new sim and my collection of aircraft are ready for me to switch without any loss of enjoyment and/or an unwanted torrent of frustration.

Wow it’s my Finial fs2020 top 10,

  1. Just flight Fokker f28, great little jet with great all around performance

  2. fs studios EJets having a company that updates their aircraft all the time is awesome plus the 170 is so much fun for a regional jet

  3. fly the md 80 I love this jetliner way to much and i love the updates of it

  4. Latin A321 Neo getting some a321 in because I can’t wait to check out the new default 321 Neo in fs2024 and I love the fuel range

  5. just flight bae 146 great little jet that is very fun to fly

  6. subsonex jx2 very fun and very addicting little jet to mess around in

  7. redwing constellation: I really love the work this company did on the constellation and all the details on this aircraft

  8. fs studios Tecnam p2006T after flying this in the sim I’d love to do a real p2006t flight in it someday because the sim one is a really fun experience

  9. horizon 787 9: like the 8, the 787 9 has more routes and airline choices then the 10

  10. Kuro 787 8 mod it’s really great but lacking a fully exolorable interior the 8 and 9 freeware were fun to fly but the 8 had more routes to fly on making the 8 more fun to fly

I hope to See everyone in fs2024 next 2 weeks
