- Hawk t1
- Fouga magister
- F104 Starfighter
- FI Spitfire IX
- P38L
- Kodiak 100 : big boy plane, almost study level.
- Stearman : old skool, simple, very rewarding
- Savage Carbon : go anywhere, fast. as STOL as they come.
- King Air 350i : beautiful plane, fast, reliable, sophisticated.
- Aviat Husky : great for cruising to just about any spot ( although I do not like taking it to Idaho Vines, Soldier Bar, and other extreme stripe. it seems to always get me in trouble there )
Honorable mentions for the Beechcraft Baron G58 and Zenith 701.

it was expected, than the king air take the c414 s place (yes that make a month I didnāt touch it) as this past week he took a lot of flight time on my side, but also the c208ās place ! that is more suprising but since I got mine (KA 350) in FSe when I seat back to a 208 I feel so slow ā¦
so right now I keep flying the caravan at the quieter instant of the day, and the king air when I got more concentration
Is this the vanilla Asobo one or the Black Square enhancement?
Thank you for this recommendation. I had almost forgotten this plane existed before you put it back on my radar. I picked it up on the Marketplace sale this week. For that price, it is a steal.
I was quite hesitant having already bought the Orbx version which has been in my hangar since I flew it once. Not a bad plane, but not for me.
So, to buy a second Optica when I did not enjoy the first? I was worried.
My worries were quelled moments after first takeoff in the Got Friends version when I literally fell from the sky!
Everything looks odd on this plane, and the Got Friends version feels as odd as it looks. That center of gravity is pretty far back, as are the wings. And⦠oops. I just fell from the sky again. Let me respawn.
Ok, I think I am getting the hang of this. It has plenty of power if you fly it right. Quite maneuverable. And⦠fell from the sky again. Respawn. This plane is trying to kill me.
This plane has the views of an ultralight or a helicopter with the creature comforts of a GA plane. Autopilot, navigation. Views for days. And with AP, I can really do some sightseeing on Xbox with a controller! Not a lot of planes in my hangar give me a full experience like this without my Honeycomb setup over on my inferior PC. And sometimes I just want to take in the sights on a big screen in 4K while still feeling like I am flying a quirky plane full of personality and Mercurial temperament.
After a night of flying, this has already made it into my top 5 and my next updated list will reflect this. It has shot right past the analog King Air. I just donāt yet know where it will ultimately settle.
And if you try and fly it like a single engine Piper or a Cessna, you too might fall from the sky! It is a touchy plane. Very stable if you treat her right, but you can and likely will lose control once or twice (or five or six times) as you learn the ropes. But it always feels fair, and well modeled.
And you can have pet companions, which is undeniably a gimmick, but the type of gimmick I really am a sucker for.
I cannot wait to take her up again!
Thank you for the recommendation.
Updated list from me:
-
Beechcraft King Air 350 | Steam Gauge Analog Overhaul [Black Square]
It is just so smooth and a pleasure to fly -
Piper PA-28-161 Warrior II [Just Flight]
Both of these will just always be in my Top 5, I guess -
Supermarine Spitfire L.F Mk IXc [Flying Iron Simulations]
Both of these will just always be in my Top 5, I guess -
Bombardier CRJ Series [Aerosoft]
Rediscovered this and still loving it -
Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat [Flying Iron Simulations]
It is really getting there now since the update
I was doing my time in the King Air when the payware was not yet available. Donāt know if I will get that.
It is neat, and turboprops are really lacking in sim.
But, the 414 has similar speed and a similar flight envelope⦠and it is better in so many ways. And the 310, to me, is the best GA twin out right now.
Compared to those two, you really notice this is just a cockpit. But it sure is fun to have the added complexity of an analog turboprop in your hands from time to time.
Some day, we will get a turboprop twin with all the bells and whistles of some of our study level pistons and tube liners.
-
PMDG DC6B Iāve been flying it around Canada
-
Cessna 170B: great little taildragger to fly
-
Embraer 110: it had better range than the otter
-
latin a319 : I enjoy flying the smaller midsize airliners because they are not that big and can visit the smaller international airports, itās like choosing between the Ranger or f150 when you know the Ranger is a better off roader for it size
-
Cessna 172 amphibian (g1000) I keep flying it around Lake Ontarioās thousand islands
And I was using the g1000 panel mod with the Cessna 172 garmin on floats
Kind of had that discussion with myself between the KA and 414. Last night flew the default modded KA and why i donāt doubt the KA update is fantastic, i feel I already own it, just with different panels.
And just realised how bad the visibility is in the KA. Even the 737 has much better visibility.
Am strictly a GA kind of guy, so my choice of aircraft is obviously on the small side! Here goes:
-
Cessna 310R - Just a flat out awesome piston twin thatās getting even better with a forthcoming update (available as beta to those who bought the plane direct from Blackbird).
-
HJet - A true labor of love and, well, maybe biased since I was a tester on it back in the early days.
-
Zenith STOL CH701 - Just a flat out fun plane to fly, especially in VR since it has minimal controls. Literally land and take off just about anywhere in the world.
-
Bonanza G36 mod - Also a tester and helper on the official mod discord, but this was my go-to plane for a lot of nice air tours. Hoping Black Square or someone makes an analog version.
-
Just Flight Warrior II - Analog gold. A calm and sedate flyer for those laid-back flights low and slow.
- Fenix Airbus 320
- Aerosoft Bombadier CRJ
- Aerosoft DHC-6 Twin Otter
- SWS Kodiak 100
- Milviz Cessna 310R
new Top 5
1 - FBW Airbus A32X neo - has been growing on me more and more
2 - FFX Hondajet - very fun and very well programmed addon
3 - PMDG Boeing 737-600 - every now and thenā¦
4 - Fenix A320 ceo- hangared for now but good aircraft
5 - Carenado Cessna 337 - needed to add a fifth aircraft
old top 5
- FFX Hondajet - currently use it a lot
- PMDG 737-600 - tons of fun
- PMDG DC-6 - recently flew it more
- FBW A32X - decided the QoL features here are important to me, so I put the Fenix in a hangar
- Carenado Cessna337 - needed to add a fifth aircraft
I am curious if the A310 will be the first really good default aircraft of MSFS and I hope it will find itās way into my Top 5.
Looking forward to that testing out that one.
Yea Iāll give that one a go for free lol. Iām not a ābig plane guyā but Iāll try it for sure!
Iām quite surprised with your top 5 to be honest. None are really suitable for exploring your own wild animal sceneries!! Poor hippos would have mass heart attacks with an Airbus buzzing them at 100ft
I suppose 337 is fine but I thought youād always have a true bush plane in your rotation
frankfly I cannot bring myself to flying small aircraft in MSFS anymore, after I have bought XP12ā¦but letās not start a Sim war
- C414AW (Flysimware ) - Finally getting the feel for this impressive model.
- Kodiak 100 Series II (SimworksStudios) - A real treat to fly in any conditions.
- F6F-5 Hellcat (Flyingironstudios) - My go to joy ride.
- T-45C GOSHAWK (Indiafoxtecho) - Simple jet scooter fun.
- Discus-2c (GotFriends) - Rocky Mt front range and Hawaiian coast pure flying
Have to mention the JRF-6B Goose (BigRadials) which is also an excellent platform and a super stable amphib.
Iām actually wondering where the Asobo ATR will be placed on everyoneās lists when that comes out
If it is like the rest of the free airplanes, it will be a shell⦠sadly.
