1.2.7.0 Sim Launch Loading Time Discussion

I don’t think so. My “My Library” shows 1189 results and I think it says 1117 sim objects while loading but it doesn’t really get stuck on the 14%. Activating packages (8% - 18%) takes 90 seconds during my sim startup. Mine doesn’t really seem to get stuck, it’s just longer than pre patch 3.

Darn.

I really don’t understand what this is.

Thankfully, it isn’t happening on my sim-rig PC and is just on my laptop.

I have found the source of my extended load times on my laptop – it is all the non-aircraft content in the Base, Deluxe and/or Premium packages.

Something to try for people experiencing long loading times on PC: reboot your computer!

I’m not sure why this makes a difference, but I just performed two tests over the last 15 minutes:

  • Test #1: No reboot, last played MSFS2024 yesterday; time from launching the sim from the Xbox app to being fully loaded at the main menu was 7+ minutes.
  • Test #2: After reboot; time from launching the sim from the Xbox app to being fully loaded at the main menu was 2+ minutes.

So at least in my case, the sim loaded ~5 minutes faster following a reboot. For comparison sake, I have 938 items in My Library.

For what it’s worth, I also experienced the same phenomenon in MSFS (2020) as well. Launching the sim following a reboot significantly improved my loading times. YMMV, of course, but it’s something to test if you’re experiencing long loading times.

Thanks,

In my case, that was one of the first things I tried and have subsequently tried. The only fix was disabling core sim content.

I also see this on my desktop. It sits at 14% with the bar not progressing.

The difference between my desktop and my laptop is my desktop has processing power in spades and can brute force through it without it being a significant issue.

My next trick is to disable all that core content on my desktop to see how it impacts its load time.

EDIT:

As expected, turning off all core “Scenery”, “Mission”, “Livery” and “Misc” content within the Base, Deluxe & Premium packages eliminated the progress bar halting at 14% on my desktop. When it hits 14% now, the bar continues to move even if the percentage continues to display 14%. When those content types are enabled, the bar will hold steady at the 14% point and after a time will resume moving once it gets past whatever is halting the progress. In the case of my less powerful laptop, that time is extremely extended vs. my powerful desktop, which is negligible.

Can I disable that content from Premium Deluxe edition?

I have no idea on Xbox. In 2020, the Content Manager was pretty restricted about what could or couldn’t be uninstalled from packages.

You’d have to take a look.

Start by finding the Standard to Deluxe Upgrade package. Expand it and see if you can disable EHAM. If so, look through the Base package and disable all the non “Aircraft” category content. Fair warning – there is quite a bit of it to disable.

Already tried this after the first occurence, no luck on my end.

Being a nVidia user (some call my even nVidia Fan Boy ) the trick from the
Loading 6% freeze “loading languages”
thread helped me.
From 4 -5 times video length down to 1 time video length.

I experience the opposite. After a reboot the first load is always 30s to 1m longer than average. After the first load, times usually stay within 5 to 10 sec of average until the next reboot.

This behaviour is common to both 2020 and 2024.

Wow, if I could start it in under 10 minutes I’d be very happy. Currently takes me about 40 Minutes to get in on my PC, says validating packages every time I start. Reinstalled game from scratch and still the same.
By the time I get to the world map I’ve run out of patience as it usually crashes about 10 minutes into my flight, and then I have to wait another 40 minutes before I can try again.

PC is about mid range 32GB Ram 2080S, AMD 3700X, Internet connection is fine, 350mbps and I have no problems with any other online games.
Used to be able to start 2020 in about 6 minutes and that was with 3rd party addons.

Hello @XTCQuinn,

Have you tried these steps already? Many players have reported that this fixes excessively long loading times like you describe:

  • Workaround 1: Synchronize your Time and Region settings.
  1. Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and select Settings.
  2. Select Date & Time and toggle the “Set time automatically setting" and “Set time zone automatically” to ON.
  3. Click on Synchronize your clock to synchronize your system’s clock with an Internet time server.
  4. Then click Region, and double-check that your country or region is correctly set up (for example if you live in Canada, make sure that the region didn’t switch to USA or vice-versa)

Thanks,

OK thanks, I will give that a try when I get a chance over the weekend. :crossed_fingers:

Update:

Enabling CUs & WUs have no bearing on the 14% halt – it continues to work as expected without the prolonged progress bar halt. Thus far, it is narrowed to Base content, although I don’t know which part(s). I also haven’t reenabled any of the scenery files within the Deluxe and/or Premium packages, so I don’t know if they are an issue.

I have just lost the cursor mode so without a mouse the game is broken on Xbox, I can’t use the EFB or the upper toolbar. What a mess…

That’s normal, but it should only take a few seconds.

That’s the bit that takes about 40 minutes. Can’t see much CPU/Disk activity on task manager while it’s doing that, CPU is at about 12% and SSD says about 3%.
GPU sits at about 35% during that time.
I’ve tried it with my anti virus off in case that’s causing some delay checking files but it’s still the same.
Once the validating packages is over it seems to perform OK (ish) but then I usually crash so have to go through the whole 40 minute wait before I can try again, makes trying to find the cause of a crash just about impossible.

Have you confirmed your system clock time is accurate and has sync’d lately?

I would be concerned that the cause of the delay is also the cause of the crash.

No not yet, that was mentioned just above. I haven’t got access to my MSFS PC until this weekend. Going to try that when I do have access.

Maybe, but I don’t have any other issues with my PC in other programs it’s very stable and not overheating etc… I do have an XMP profile set in the BIOS but I tried turning that off and rebooting but still no joy.
