They definitely do support it still, I’m on their Discord but everything has been in “Beta” for as long as I can tell.
Good to know, I was on there at first but haven’t looked it up since I started using it again. Thanks.
i have been super happy with activesky but i know it’s potentially one of the most controversial things i have seen in flightsim in a while and that’s saying something!!!
and yes, to @skypilotYTS’s point, rex wf is definitely still being developed but it seems to have languished for a super long time. i am sure they are trying to figure out ways around the wx api limitations but i haven’t seen anything new in a long time
Activesky not working for anyone else ?
Well, finally broke down and got AS. I like it…and I don’t like it. Visually some of elements look much better than either Live Weather or REX. Others, not so much.
My biggest issue is the overall performance hit it seems to put on my system. Live Weather has no impact at the moment. REX has a slight impact depending on what is being rendered and where.
AS seems to have a noticeable impact regardless. There is no FPS loss with AS, just constant hesitations and pauses with the occasional micro-freeze. If this is something ‘not normal’ please let me know and if possible how to correct. If it is just the way it is I think REX might be the winner at the moment.
As a side note, I think AS could stand to clean up its UI. Very ‘busy’, at least in my opinion.
Are you sure you are not mistaking the weather transitions for pauses and freezes? If you are stuttering definite issue. What I have no clue. AS has zero performance hit on my system.
I agree with with your comments “Visually some of elements look much better than either Live Weather or REX. Others, not so much.” I am still on the fence. Also, looking around the outside environment and always seeing the same thing puts it off for me as well.
sorry you’re not happy. i hate buying stuff for the sim only to be disappointed in my purchase (and yeah, that’s happened to me a lot, unfortunately).
the only thing i can provide is that i am not having any perf issues while running activesky. i would highly recommend hitting up their forums on the hifisims website and seeing if someone there can help you out. the devs are really active over there and someone should be able to get you sorted, at least from a perf-perspective
I loose between 5-7 FPS while running ActiveSky in my system. It’s not too bad when in 2D but very noticeably in VR. Additionally when the weather transitions my FPS drops down to less than 10, only for a second or two but super noticeable. I don’t use it in VR anymore, still do in 2D though as the weather looks better and more accurately depicts the weather especially on vatsim.
I don’t know if I’m mistaking them but rather I think they are the cause of the issue. With that said I just did a flight and everything seem much better than the one I did earlier this morning. Maybe there is still hope. Thanks.
Thanks for the reply, I’m not unhappy with it. Probably just need to mess around with some things use it a little more.
I’m in the same boat (plane?) as @BoboSkypark I have zero performance hits with ASFS in terms of FPS or smoothness on or off is the same on my system.
Zero issues with performance on my end also.
Hey everyone just wanted to update and say that after the 1st flight with the issues AS has been working VERY well. Not sure what happened, did not change a thing. Had 2 flights later today, it looked great and ran very smooth. Think it’s going to be my go-to for now. I think Rex might have a patch in the works (after 2 years). If so we’ll see what happens. For now AS is definitely worth the $.
Thanks for all the opinions and help, much apricated.
Nevermind, the snow in NL is well to the north. I don’t know why there’d be snow in Gander right now.
Notice this too, its definitely happening when the new METAR is loaded, not the theme reload…
Any information on the AS effects from (real) glider pilots? Is it more realistic (thermals, turbulence, lee) than stock MSFS weather?
Do you have frame gen on for DX12? Frame gen and even things like DLSS can “erase” things by smoothing them over.
