2024 ActiveSky Weather Program Main Thread

Same here, but MSFS has always been much closer to what I see when I look out the window than AS :man_shrugging: I do think AS is kind of a hack since MSFS weather API apparently is not open to developers. Who knows, hopefully the issues will be sorted so that we can all enjoy AS as intended.

I’ll check when I get home. I only know its somewhere in your MSFS user profile. You could search for the word ā€œactiveskyā€ in there in the meantime. I don’t think there is a space in its name at least, but ā€œskyā€ would also work if there is.

Looks good. You can shorten that to:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Weather\Presets

I fly with Passive Mode…works as intended over here.

So its smooth changes lets say from raining to stopping and getting a little sunny there is no like BOOm and switched its just smooth when changing weather from live weather?

Well you will notice the weather transitioning over about a minute or so, but it’s not an instantaneous change.

ActiveSky is limited in what it can do, because the sim offers very little control. So in ā€œpresetā€ mode, Active Sky will download the latest weather information every 15-20 minutes and if it is significantly different from the last one, it will change the in-sim weather to match that.

I have experienced that with the default weather, but not with Active Sky.

Still worth it in my opinion. I use it all the time in MSFS 2024 and X-Plane 12. In MSFS 2024 I use the preset mode.

Think it is great in Passive Mode.

I still cant stand the same weather being applied to the whole earth in full mode though.

Asobo really need to fully open up the weather to 3rd party devs, it is clear the active sky can do cloud rendering so much better than default, I wish they would just let them do a proper weather app in the same way they let aircraft developers make better aircraft than default, and scenery developers make better scenery than default.

I recently uninstalled FS2020 and FS2024. I only reinstalled FS2024, since I haven’t flown in FS2020 for some time, and wanted to start over with FS2024.

I also uninstalled AS. Maybe I’ll revisit it if Microsobo decides to do a better job of allowing true integration of external weather engines. For now I’m writing off AS as a ā€˜nice try.’

I might re-run some Asobo vs ASFS wind effect tests at the weekend, as I haven’t tried those yet in 2024 SU4b. With ASFS you actually get turbulence in clouds, wind shear, and other effects that in my last round of testing you didn’t have in Asobo native weather.

so with live weather its good?

I’ll put it this way, since I purchased it, I use it with every flight with not one problem.
Personally, to me it seems to represent the weather accurately, and it really makes a huge difference in the cloud and sky representations.

Obviously, my response is subjective, but I am very satisfied with it.

Hey, So prob since SU 2 beta I haven’t been able to get AS to inject weather. I’ve used this product since the P3D days without issue. I can use passive mode, but when I use the AS preset mode all I get is clear skies says ā€œidleā€ under activity then gives error- cannot detect the AS script?- says under weather that AS preset is active? I have the latest beta version- currently using SU4 beta? Maybe that’s the problem? Thanks for any input!

I show three different modes, Live, Historical, and Custom.

ActiveSky should set the correct sim functions, whether that be preset or other.
Don’t change weather settings in the sim.

Check to see that the world map weather function shows custom, and that when you click on that, the selection inside should say preset, which I believe are correct for ActiveSky to work properly.

Make sure the ASFS icon is visible in your toolbar. I have it hidden by default and before every flight, I must go and click on it once or twice so that ASFS will inject Live Weather (in preset mode). Please note I am using FS2020, so this may be different in 2024.

That is entirely correct, i forgot about that, and it’s no different in FS2024.
You do need to have the ActiveSky icon showing in the toolbar, or ActiveSky won’t work.

Unfortuneately this doesn’t seem to work? Here’s a screenshot of my setup? Nothing but clear skies? I’ve reinstalled without success? Thanks!

Where are you?
