Anyone tried the Goodyear Blimp yet? I forgot that was part of the world update release.

Is there a reason that World Update 22 is not also appearing in the MSFS 2020 marketplace? If so, it’s the first World Update since the release of MSFS 2024 that is excluded from MSFS 2020. I thought the whole point of bringing the MSFS 2020 world into alignment with MSFS 2024 was so that updates like this could be applied seamlessly to both versions. Please tell me this is a mistake!

If I recall correctly, MSFS 2020 doesn’t support countryside TIN. And that’s what this WU is. It’s a game engine limitation

If that’s the case (and I’d be curious to hear the official word on this) then they should at least release the WU22 POIs for MSFS 2020. Also does this mean all future World Updates are going to follow the same pattern, meaning the entire ‘align-the-world-for-both-versions’ exercise becomes almost useless, especially considering plenty of people didn’t even want it for MSFS 2020 after seeing the downgrade that it was.

Hi @CaphollandX

I can confirm that World Update 22: United States National Parks is only available on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and that there is no mistake in the wording of the post you have shared a screenshot of.

Great points raised here. Not that Asobo will care to acknowledge or respond of course, but good observations regardless.

Pretty much reinforces the conjecture that su16 was no mistaken attempt at some form of improvements, rather a targeted means of downgrading that sim.

2020 is still being supported. Not in the capacity it used to be but it still receives World Updates, 2024 planes got ported over, servers are still running
Maybe it’ll even receive a SU again at some point. But because of engine limitations and of course monetary reasons, certain new stuff will not be available there.

Not releasing this WU of American National Parks for MSFS 2020 is outrageous.

Jorge had promised on multiple forums several times that MSFS 2020 would keep on getting regular updates for the following ten years. However, since the release of MSFS 2024, they have forgotten that promise.

It’s the users’ choice which sim version they want to stick to. They shouldn’t be pushed into purchasing a newer version ridden with problems against an older but comparatively stable version by excluding them of their right.

I feel the saddest today about being excluded from enjoying the American National Parks. For some, this simulator is the only means to visit such locations for educational purposes.

This exclusion marks a separation of MSFS 2020 owners from everything within the MSFS universe - screenshot challenges, community flights, and so much more.

Words fail to describe how cheated and deprived I feel today.

Hats off to Microsoft and Asobo for ruining the celebrations of America’s 250th anniversary for an entire community.

There couldn’t have been a better time!

Choices come with consequences. I haven’t seen anyone up in arms that FS98 didn’t get WU22 if they chose to stay on that platform.

I don’t recall Jorg saying 2020 would get 100% of the exact same content as 2024 forever - but if you can point me to where that was said, then I’ll eat my hat.

Just like he said that they would be porting 2024 aircraft to 2020 where it was possible (because some things in 2024 like the soft tissue physics, etc. just don’t exist in 2020), I’m certain the same applies to World Updates like this one which is so heavily reliant upon 2024-exclusive tech (the “countryside TIN”).

I also don’t recall Jorg saying ‘Sorry folks, but we’re going to have to start offering fewer updates for MSFS 2020 from this point forward because of technical reasons X and Y.’ It’s this lack of communication about what we as MSFS 2020 users can now expect or not expect that is causing most of our frustration.

2020 doesn’t support the terrain tech they used to create this WU. What do you want them to do, backport that huge engine feature into 2020? Or to never use the new capabilities in the new sim at all for any updates? Then what’s the point of the new tech/engine?

It’s either 2024 users get it, or no one gets it. 2020 cannot.

Communicate clearly what us MSFS 2020 users can expect going forward. Also an effort could have been made to at least give us the handcrafted WU22 POI elements, even if we can’t get the TIN elements. Otherwise what was the point of aligning the aerials across both sims?

A completely redundant argument as it’s two completely separate productions of the title.

They did state 2020 would only get 2 updates this year the next in September 26.
Nobody has deceived 2020 simmers. You must surely know that 2020 will get less support as time goes by. Even 3rd party devs are going to stop development for 2020.
Folk are eventually going to have to move to 24 if you want the benefits of these updates.

I do understand your irritation at the situation. However, 2 updates a year is still support. Which will stop in 3.5 years time.
There will come a day when all of us in 2024 will face the same problem.
Things always move on but choosing to stick in the past is a choice which is always going to be just that - a choice.
Nothing stopping you switching to 24, for all of it’s shortcomings, which are slowly reducing and things are getting better.

FYI, have a look at the May 2025 Development Livestream: https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/vS14eQEFMVU

While I completely understand that 2020 cannot get the TIN side of the world update, what is stopping it from getting the new points of interest and handcrafted airports?

@SmotheryVase665, thank you. I did follow that developer stream closely and eagerly. Note that there is no mention of POIs being incompatible, and no mention that World Updates may need to diverge between versions. Because this is the first time this has happened, a note to MSFS 2020 players explaining that World Updates are now ‘forking’ between MSFS-2024-exclusive and combined MSFS 2020/2024 releases would have been appreciated. That way at least we know we haven’t been forgotten about as a group of active franchise stakeholders.

Also @Pilotfirst9999, we do know that MSFS 2020 is still being supported, but the outcome the previous SU16 wasn’t exactly favourable for everyone, so the jury is still out on what kind of improvements SU17 promises and will ultimately deliver.

And happy Fourth of July to all simmers in the USA!
