Thanks! That was very insightful!
If anybody else has experience with the QW 787, please let us know how the WT 787 compares with it. Cheers!

I agree, Autolanding in both 787 and 747 throw the plane into the ground and aren’t very consistent. As well as pitch in VNAV for 747, its very unstable.
There are definitely bugs in this latest AAU2 update on the 787; especially the takeoff bug (ground to air transition) but Matt/WT said it should be fixed in next update.
Definitely a step in the right direction though. Very thankful and I hope MSFS will keep additional focus on keeping the 787 as an ‘expert’ series at some point.
Yesterday I decided to look how 787 and 747 fly under AI piloting.
787 pushes back, however does not always taxi, does not take-off, does not lower speed on approach when requested (and because of this is not able to follow the track), if i use that “travel to” option and select Cruise or Descent or Approach the plane appears too low (1500 or 5000 feet). The plane does not fly at selected altitude and a result there are ATC calls “Descend to…” The HUD is not scaled properly This page is not for 747, however the 747 does not keep selected altitude, does not reduce her speed as requested, does not taxi. The same is for the Longitude. Below is the screenshot ()from 747, however it is the same for the 787 and A320 of how they maintain the altitude requested and selected. I am not sure that this is because of AAU2 and do not report these issues as bugs yet. What is your experience?
I used to fly the QW787 a LOT back in the P3D era. It’s been some years since I last flew it, so I may have forgotten a few things. With that said:
The WT 787 is roughly 80-90% of the QW787 in normal operations. No failures etc. There are a few things missing (VSD is the biggest one I can think of), but overall this is an amazing plane for the price of free - heck, I’d say this is payware class, but not quite PMDG/Fenix level, because it lacks failure operations.
That’s perfectly fine though, because the vast majority of people are unlikely to practice failure checklists and all that jazz. I’m sure someone will enhance this base plane to add stuff like that later, but this plane will satisfy a LOT of people.
I was able to load cold and dark, do a startup following a checklist (none of the tests work, AFAIK, but the actual actions you need to do work fine), load my flight plan manually into the FMC (and it also works seamlessly with the MSFS Flight Planner, or if you load a Simbrief plan into the World Map), take off, follow a route, and do a nice ILS landing at the destination.
Add a few more features, add the EFB, and this plane is basically done. If you need a higher end plane because you want failures or absolutely real systems mapping, some intrepid modder is bound to make that happen eventually if you’re lucky. Or else wait for a high-end 787 that will probably be at least $80+
Thanks for your summary! That’s pretty good if the WT 787 is 80% to 90% of the QW 787 for normal operations!
Agree, when Asobo sets the encryption of the 787 free i think some dedicated devs will continue the outstanding work of WT and maybe someone then will improve the exterior model like wings and fuselage …add more doors to open etc… What a Time to be a flight simmer.
When I remember starting the first flight in the 737 in FS98…oh boi, we’ve come a long way…
I keep thinking about that myself. Amazing!
Even with some core areas that still need work, the Sim is really coming along. Working Title is a real blessing. Seb’s contributions with aerodynamics and Helicopters are greatly appreciated (even though I’ve only flow a heli once). Great stuff.
I’ve had a few experiences recently that really stunned me. For instance: in the Longitude cockpit, displays & avionics looking wonderful, systems humming along, so satisfying.
Jumped to external camera and clouds looked very, very good, lighting that looked amazing. Smooth, no stutters… the Sim was firing on all cylinders and it was an absolutely wonderful experience.
I just took it all in and thought “WOW, I can’t believe how far we’ve come. What a great time to be into Flight Simulation”.
And we have years of improvement and advancement ahead of us.
My main concern is only performance and textures. Does the beta improve on those?
On Series X here.
Nope. LOD is still very poor, it’s a stutter fps drop fest if you’re on the Xbox Console. I have heard though that some Xbox users aren’t having these issues. I guess if you’re one of the lucky ones, you won’t have to experience the above issues.
787 and 747 are unfortunately unflyable due to the FPS hit that occurs on XBX.
Strange. The 787 is one of my best airliners as far as FPS on PC…
It is strange. Only two aircraft that have FPS issues on Xbox (for me). And only since AAU2.
A310, ATR, PMDG 737, no problems.
The “Stock” 787 is the only stock aircraft I seem to have controllability problems on touchdown. Keeping this beast on the runway is now difficult for me… never had trouble in the past but lately it has been a disaster controlling it at touchdown through rollout speeds. That is with rudder assistance ON or OFF. All other Assistance is OFF. Not sure what the problem is. Maybe I should DELETE the aircraft and RE-Download ??
..
Anyone else experiencing this trouble with the stock 787 ?
I hope that they update the default a20n like they updated the default 787 and 747.
Yes, it’s like it’s sliding on ice
I have found that keeping auto braking low (set at 1) or even off minimizes the sliding on ice…
It still seems like this is the case and some work still needs to be done, Iv just got done with a 4 hour test flight which isn’t a long route at all for the 787, from Manchester to Cyprus. Everything was fine until I used the new SimBrief Uplink feature to load my flightplan and that’s when my fps took a hit, it was basically stuttering throughout the whole taxi, take-off and climb. It got even worse once I started to increase the range on the ND’s. I closed my sim before i’d even got to cruise, it annoyed me a little bit lol. I still need to give the 747 a try in the beta.
Really tried to have some decent flights with the 787 today. I really want it to work, but frankly it’s garbage. Sliding unbalanced on ice as mentioned above, FPS hit when landing. I’m unfortunately going to have to shelve it until they make some improvements (which I’m not confident will happen). It’s amazing how much of a better job PMDG did with the 737. Night and day to me.
Xbox series X
Well ok, you cant really compare these products at all, that just isnt fair, especially looking at the pricepoint of the 787 ![]()
