9800X3D 21% faster than the 7800X3D - 1080p highest + Turbo

The new 2024 Corsair RM1000x is with a good price now on Amazon DE, under 200 Eur.
This one is ATX 3.1 and has already a new 12V-2x6 connector on the PSU, which is slightly different from the previous 12VHPWR, although they look the same.
The new type is meant to be safer, but time will tell.

Sorry for going offtopic on the 9800X3D.

If I posted my PSU specs versus what CPU/GPU combo I’m using, I would be run out of town and banned from this forum by all the hardware system builders

Same here. I’m running a 9800X3D OCed to 5.4GHz and a 4090 OCed to 2850MHz (admittedly both undervolted) on only a gasp 850W PSU all nice and stable. Hopefully MSFS 2024 won’t be the game to push it over the stability edge!

Update for stuttering issues in VR

SOLVED!

Thanks to user motoadve, he got the answer on Tom’s Hardware. BIOS default, Clear CMOS. Runs perfectly now!

If I am upgrading from a 7800X3D to a 9800X3D but retaining my X670E motherboard, do I need to reinstall Windows 11, or update my BIOS, or anything like that? Or do I just drop in the new CPU?

No need to reinstall Windows for a CPU upgrade on the same motherboard. You should however update your BIOS to the latest version, which should support the 9800X3D properly.

I also upgraded from a Ryzen 7 7800X3D to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and swapped my MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk WIFI for an MSI MPG X870E Carbon WIFI. I didn’t reinstall Windows. The only things I did were update BIOS on the new motherboard and reactivate Windows.

Does someone know if FS2024 effectively uses more than 8 cores? I’m actually considering buying a 9800x3D vs waiting for the 9950x3D next year. However, if the new sim doesn’t really use more than 8 cores, there is probably no point in buying a 9950x3D. Any advice on this would be appreciated  Specially coming from guys who have tested Flight 2024 with Ryzen 7950x3D or 9950x.

Yeah, I have exactly the same question.

This post from mbucchia back in 2022 might be useful for someone trying to understand the data in dev mode

My initial raw impressions of FS’24 are mostly of disappointment.
It just seems less curated and polished than FS2020.

In terms of performance, it seems that the CPU is in fact better utilized, but on the other hand there is heavier load on the GPU, compared to 2020.

Nevertheless, the whole experience, with sluggish interface, messed up control assignments, CTD’s, scenery and objects slow to load and popping up, it definitely is putting me off to spend anything on hardware upgrades for it, at least as it is at the moment.

I installed and managed to get 2024 up and running this evening - Its terrible in its current state.

Notwithstanding that, In a couple of quick tests on my 7950X3D I tried to test the effect / benefit of the X3D V-Cache cores. Using process lasso to move FS2024 from the X3D Cache Cores to the non-Chace cores resulted in virtually no change to FPS. I’m thinking perhaps the extra cache doesn’t have much effect on 2024
Although its difficult to see in this video - FPS stayed around 50-55 throughout

We need comparision between 7800x3d vs 7950x3d. So we would know, is there benefits to have more cores with MSFS2024. Or someone with 7950x3d could test MSFS2024 with half of the cores (disable the rest with ProcessLasso).

The post above you effectively did that. One CCD on the 7950x3d is the same thing as the 7800x3d. And you can see in the video if he picks either or both CCDs there is no meaningful change in FPS. You can see that the sim does utilize all the cores, however it doesn’t seem to matter. Even more interesting with that test is that it seems 3D Vcache seems to have no impact either.

In Jay’s video he mentions the same thing on 3D Vcache, however he focuses more on overall utilization and that CPU and GPU utilization are below expectations, especially in free flight, and changing graphic settings doesn’t do much.

Thanks @Airbumps2501 for that quick test. That really shows in a succinct way if the sim was using all cores as promised. MS/Asobo are technically correct, the sim uses all core now, but right now it doesn’t matter. My guess is something is going on with all the streaming in the background which is preventing CPU/GPU utilization from being where it should be.

For people like me waiting to see which CPUs are the right ones for 2024, the wait continues and it will for a while. Clarity may not come until all the launch issues get sorted out through a few patches. In fact the question got even more confusing since it seems 3D Vcache isn’t making the impact like it did in 2020. Will more cores above 8 matter? Does 3D Vcache matter? Will clock speed matter? Does something else not even CPU related matter more? The 9800X3D might be a safe bet if you have to make a CPU decision right now.

well, on my side with 9800X3D, im now fully GPU limited with a 4070Ti OC.
Seems like VRAM might be the problem tho, idk.

But 30FPS (native, no FG/Dynamic settings) on Ultra is not that great, Analogue C172 at small default airport, no FG City or anything close by

Quite dissapointed, the Alpha ran so much better!

I opted against a X3D chip and stuck with a 7950X. In the new sim, 2024 with a 4090 at 4K and 64GB RAM it is smooth and I actually have higher frames than in 2020.

At tech alpha test i was easily gettling 67fps-73fps with CPU temps reaching 73-74C. At some places even more, near 80fps+ IT WAS BUTTER SMOOTH!
Here are initial tests, same settings. I will test more later, back from hospital 3h ago, surgery. It is sad, now i have to activate FG to achieve these results? I was at the nearest airport at runway with 38-42fps! Nothing is near me, just trees and foliages, rocks. Maybe the more i fly at that area my fps will get better? Whatever.

edit: Here is some positivity, details are crazy at some places. It is murphy Twitch
He also found a Bear <3 Twitch

Edit2: Yay!! I managed to fly some today (LICJ), manage to get some bandwidth again finally :stuck_out_tongue: To those want to buy 7800x3D 9800x3D, get a way better GPU than 4070 or amd equivalent. Get 64gb ram. This game looks stunning on details.

Btw raytraced shadows also works on outside shadows, while i was testing they were changing outside also, so it is not only in cockpit now. And i think server issues/bandwidth is directly effecting performance. A bit of fine tuning can get good results at 1440p dlaa or DlssQ/similar for amd also. Stuttering without Vsync sadly. No idea what Alloc / frame on Dev fps graph but it was almost always red. You can see bandwidth section there also and some more new things. It will take some time for all server issues fixed for everyone it seems. Happy flying.
