A workaround to get rid of the white dot when using the Xbox controller

If you find the the white dot that appears in the middle of the screen when using Xbox controller irritating, try doing the following to make it disappear:

(1) under the controller setting, assign a key for "Toggle Cockpit Focus Mode". As shown in the screenshot below, I assigned it to right arrow of my Xbox controller.

(2) During the flight, click the key you assigned above twice (i.e. focus then unfocus). The white dot will disappear and won’t appear again unless you activated the in-game menu.

Enjoy flying

You just click the middle mouse button for free look and it is gone.Simple as that.
I expect however to be completely GONE by Asobo

@SAKISAPPOLON Good point but I wrote my suggestion especially for those who use the Xbox console where most likely, they don’t have mouse attached.

It doesn’t work…

I’ve just retried it and it works correctly with me..

It works when you press any of the D-pad buttons but it returns the first time you use the mouse.

I understand what you mean. It’s not a perfect workaround. I suggest changing the setting of “focus mode” to be “hold” instead of “toggle” so at least click the d-button once instead of twice each time you want to get rid of white dot.

Hopefully Asobo will give us an option to disable it one day.

When I move the mouse and the white dot appears, I move the left analogue stick a little and the dot disappears immediately. It only comes back when the mouse is moved. I think it is a bug in FS2020, probably should also disappear when the right stick is moved.

The PNG file with the white dot seems to be in:
“C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_…\Packages\fs-base-onboarding\images\MOUSE_PADCENTER.png”.
There are also:
MOUSE_DROPSHADOW.tif
MOUSE_HEADLOOK.PNG

These files cannot be renamed, deleted or exchanged! Unfortunately, MSFS loads this file into memory right at the beginning, so it is not enough to rename the file name afterwards with a memory editor in RAM. It should happen immediately when flightsimulator.exe has been loaded into memory, but not yet started. If it were known where the graphic of the white dot is located in RAM, it might be possible to temporarily overwrite this memory area.
This could possibly be done with the CheatEngine.

There are simply too many ‘modes’ and cameras. There is the toolbar mode and cockpit interaction mode and standard flying mode and it seems too easy to accidentally get trapped in one of these modes without knowing it and so keys, buttons, and controls don’t function as you think they should which causes you to create a workaround by deleting and rearranging the bindings.

The current system needs reevaluating in my opinion.

I am able to delete the files you mentioned but that does not make the white dot disappear once and for all.
There is also C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MicrosoftFlightSimulator\SYSICO\MOUSE_HEADLOOK.cur
But also this white dot cursor seems not to be related: even if you delete it the white dot doesn’t go away.
We really need a fix for legacy mode: the white dot and the white frame around the touchscreens must go away. Asobo please…

There is a ‘cursor toggle’ setting. Have you tried that?

Nope, that is for this other cursor…

that looks like the Xbox toolbar mode cursor. The dot is ‘cockpit interaction mode’ and on XB there is a mode that allows you to look around without seeing either ‘cursor’. You have to be in neither toolbar mode nor cockpit interaction mode.

Like I said, too many modes. too many cameras. too many toggles. Its a maze.
