A2A Aerostar 600

Awesome! It’s that kind of model, that makes one want to go flying. Agree on the above and I need to spend more time in the documentation for #2. For #3, here is something I adapted from https://a2asimulations.com/downloads/manuals/Aerostar%20manual%20parts.pdf

To fly a GPS flight plan without GPSS:

  1. Set CDI source to GPS
  2. Set HSI course to GPS desired track for the current leg (DTK)
  3. Activate autpilot NAV mode.
  4. At the end of each flightplan leg the GPS will notify you about the new course (DTK) you have to set on the HSI to continue tracking.

To fly a GPS flightplan with GPSS:

  1. Set CDI source to GPS.
  2. Set HDG/GPSS switch to GPSS
  3. Activate HDG mode (not NAV)

To change altitude on A/P, select ATT (attitude) mode and use the pitch wheel to set a V/S rate. For this I use the mouse wheel but whatever works to move the pitch wheel on your set-up. Then return to ALT to hold the new altitude.

If you map the joystick button to “pitch sync press” and “pitch sync release” bindings as described in the manual, you can hold this button, adjust the pitch with the yoke, release the button and the autopilot will take over and hold the new pitch.

Or switch to ATT and adjust pitch with the pitch wheel. There are shortcuts for that too.

One thing that hasn’t been talked about is how wonderful the Aerostar is as a touring aircraft for VFR. Besides being so comfortable to fly, it’s the perfect seat for VFR flying. I love the Dukes but the visibility absolutely sucks for seeing anything.

This is another great aircraft from A2A, albeit in a beta stage of development.
I have one question regarding ground steering. I noticed that the ground steering using rudder pedals were largely inefective however there was a ground steering rocker switch on the pedastal. Just wonedring for those of you with a Honeycomb setup (as I have) what do you map that rocker to? and how do you generally use it. Do you use differential thrust as well?
Thanks in advance.

Found in the A2A forum. I also believe there is a reset to centre/neutral (or similar name) as I believe when you release left or right the hydraulics do not automatically centre, so you may need to assign a neutral command or use an opposite control.

I think there are a bunch of new variables prefixed with A600

The aircraft has a rather unusual wing layout, with main wing spar located behind the rear seats, not under the cabin as usual. That means the engines are far behind the pilot’s seat and do not obstruct the view like in most twins.

Thanks for the heads up. Much appreciated.

I actually tried the A600 left and right steering control assigned to a rocker in my Honeycomb Alpha. Nightmare to control

I’m thinking keyboard for this.

It finally doesn’t look from the outside like it’s packed in foil

Good morning, I am facing two problems and i need someone to tell me it’s a “me” problem.

  1. the plane does not move forward when on the ground. Status: ties and blocks removed, prop fully fwd, throttle fully fwd, steering setting simplified with rudder pedals, no binding of brakes to anything but keyboard as per default. Currwnt solution: fiddling a lot with the rudder pedals and sometimes it starts moving forward. Sometimes it does not at all.

  2. the AP does not follow any commands. Status: airplane with no gps unit installed, AP switch on, auto trim on, NAV1 selected, knob(s) (crs and hdg as applicable) set, instrument capturing localiser, AP engaged, appropriate mode engage, intercepting angle any but trying below 30 deg. Current solution: none. I have tried all sorts, even moving to a version of thr plane with GPS and flickering the GPSS/NAV switch. Neither lateral no vertical modes work.

Any help is very welcome!!!

Have you tried posting on the A2A forum? I e been flying the A600 from UK to Melbourne. Currently in Darwin so maybe over 5000miles and none if your issues. It’s a real odd one.

The AP is a bit slow to catch up to Nav1. My process is to tune my VOR and set the course as required. On take off, I align manually or use AP and heading hold. Once aligned I flip to Nav hold and it follows pretty well.

Stupid question but have you inspected the plane through maintenance. I’ve had wing failure prior to takeoff once.

I have overhauled it and all inspection is green. But it’s a good point to keep in mind. I have re installed it (and windows due to a different issue obviously) but not much difference. Good point about the a2a forum. Thanks

I got the first problem too. As soon as I trie to steer the plane it stops. My workaround is to use left or right to break with a lot of asymetric trust to get me goin in the direction I want to turn and this sort of breaks it loose, so that after a few meters of rolling around everything works as expected. Started with the last update of the aerostar.

Thanks! It can very well be a me problem!

Do you have the simple steering set? That sounds like you may have the realistic steering?

It’s set to simple steering.

Probably the wheel chocks were removed during walk around or preflight. Perhaps open the controls section of the tablet to confirm the chocks are off? I had this happen to me in the 772 in 24 recently and I swear I got her off the blocks but apparently not when she would not taxi.
