Big update!
How are those engine sounds now? Wonāt get a chance to look until the weekend. Is it still a Comanche in drag?
Iām really enjoying this aircraft. Like the Comanche the flight model just feels ārealā - it āsimulatesā better than most 2 engine craft, including the Duke in my opinion. This will only get better and better.
Correct me if Iām wrong, but the A2A Comanche and Aerostar both use Lycoming O-540 engines?
The Aerostar uses the IO-540. The I prefix means that itās fuel injected.
Two flights today in 0.9.4 were thoroughly enjoyable! I spent the last few days learning how to like a new turboprop, even if just a little; so imagine my delight getting my hands back on an updated Aerostar. Anecdotal to the max: but itās the difference between love and like; and Iām loving flying the Aerostar! It will certainly improve, but the good bones are already there, what I need in the air! It is simply wonderful in hand to fly.
The in-flight noise is pretty good (minus the alternator whine which Scott himself said would be simulated) but listen to any Aerostar turnover to start and then listen to the A2A Comanche and tell me which one is identical.
Iām not bashing A2A, the Comanche is great but developers need to be kept honest, otherwise they release early access products and get to a point where āthatāll doā before moving on to the next project. If youāre going to release early access then you have to accept the feedback when something is not right, especially when your last product was the top GA plane of 2024.
Good thing theyāve ALREADY had two pretty meaty updates fixing things!
The Aerostar works better as an early release than some of my other recent purchases that were final release airplanes. A nice flying airplane.
How A2A are interacting with the public on their forum for the final touches and the speed of implementation is nothing short of stella. The beta was announced as almost complete with a bit of polish here and there so Iām not surprised itās better than a lot of other developers.
Important things to be considered a good purchase (for me) is how it looks, how it sounds and how it feels. A2A (in my opinion) has got the feeling part down to a tee with accu-sim 2.0 but the sound stage and texture work is not quite there. Personally, Iām not massively fussed about texture work but it has to at least look like it was designed after 2020. The recycled sounds bother me. This plane has been a long time in the making and was originally due to be released last year. Iām not the only one who has flagged up the Comanche sounds. Still hoping this will be addressed.
Regarding these updates, when I first purchased this aircraft, I did not get a link to the A2A updater. Do I have to uninstall the existing version and then re-download this latest version and re-install? Was there a glitch in the initial installation that didnāt load the A2A updater?
Thanks anyone for any assistance you can provide.
Edit: By installer I mean the item in the Windows Start menu under A2A Simulations.
Remove the aircraft folder from your Community folder then download the installer again.
Excellent, thanks. I was not sure if the installer made any changes to the sim that I might have broken by simply deleting the aircraft folder. Much appreciated.
Thatās my usual method. But the verbiage on the A2A forum is:
āTo update simply re-download from your store account, the installer, and run the installer.ā
But a user reported:
āIām getting an error about my Community folder path. I previously installed the Aerostar into a directory which Addon Linker used to link to my main Community folder. But when I try to install this version I get this error. (I also tried just pointing at my main 2024 Community folder directly but same error.)ā
The A2A response was:
āIām sorry to hear about your issues. This is a known bug with an early build of the installer. Version 0.9.2 contains a patch that automatically clears up this issue (version 0.9.4 does not contain this patch). Youāll need to run the exe within version 0.9.2 at least once (no need to fully install, simply open the file until you see the first dialog screen, then close). After that, you should be able to install version 0.9.4 no problem. Let me know if you no longer have access to 0.9.2 and I can send you a temporary download link.ā
I plan to update it the āMakiā way.
OK did it the Maki way, but when trying to re-install, the installer reported that "This aircraft is already installed, Uninstall through Windows⦠Go toā¦etc. etc. etc.
Ran the uninstaller, then re-installed and it seemed to work this time.
Good to know. Thanks. Iām guessing maybe it has something to do with aircraft-specific Accu-Sim files. Iām headed to my computer to try the .9.4 installer.
ETA: Ran the installer.
Iām going to contact A2A to see if I can get the .9.2 installer.
ETA: I contacted A2A support on their forum, and quickly got a download link for 0.9.2, along with instructions for how to use it to fix the 0.9.4 installer issue.
I asked whether I could share the link, but thatās not possible. I recommend contacting A2A Support for the link (they have to verify ownership, of course) along with instructions on how to use it.
this is a bug in the installer, I found a workaround while waiting for support response that doesnāt need a re-download/different installer. So just in case it helps someone else:
I worked around it by changing
path
in this registry path to the community folder path, that triggered an uninstall error ācannot find manifestā but it proceeded with the install after that. So I might have been correct: the installer was happy to place 0.9.2 in my Add-ons Linker repository, but the same path is not acceptable to the uninstaller āsafety checkā.HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-3346711656-1032594763-596816776-1001\Software\A2A Simulations\A2A Aerostar
the first part of your registry path will be different so search for A2A Aerostar
Would that work if my 0.9.0 install is in my Addons Linker folder?
It seems as though the 0.9.4 installer defaults to āCommunityā.
Not where I want it.
I got the 0.9.2 installer in about 5 minutes from Mark in the A2A forum.
Once I followed the instructions, the 0.9.4 installer allowed me to point to the AOL folder.
I realize that not everyone wants to join another forum.
Howās the new gauge texturing? Is it closer to Comanche-level?
I picked the Aerostar up this evening. My plan was to take just take it on a quick 15 minute flight, but it felt so nice and was moving so fast, that I put in a destination into the GPS and took it for an hour+ flight.
I managed to start both engines on the first try and found it very fun and easy to hand fly.
Few things I need to work out.
-
Need to tweak the quick views on my yoke hat switch.
-
Need to learn the instruments to lean the mixture correctly.
-
And need to learn the auto pilot system. I was able to set it to maintain an altitude and to hold a heading. If I put it in NAV mode it seemed to want to go back to my departure point, and I couldnāt figure out how to change to a different altitude without disengaging the auto pilot and setting it again.
