I can’t believe there is no option to turn off that “back on track” feature. Seems like something from a kiddy arcade game.
“As real as it gets.”
If I wreck my helicopter in Ghost Recon, there is no back on track. I’m either wounded or dead and the helicopter is a smoking wreck that may explode and hurt me if I stand near it.
But in Flight Simulator…
Like a lot of other things, it could work as an optional feature, maybe incur a penalty. But we can’t be left to our own devices to fail, or divert, etc, which is unfortunate.
What is equally irritating about is it isn’t even implemented correctly. The few times it has occurred, it’s stuck me flying on an opposite heading or at some strange altitude unlike what I was meant to be on.
Like everything else, it needs work.
I think many people care but most of us long ago gave up on the in sim ATC completely. It’s one of the most important parts of flying and was not fit for purpose in FS20. It clearly still isn’t in FS24.
Like many I’ve not even tried ATC in FS24, I disabled it on first use and I use BATC instead which is excellent. You talk to it and it talks back. Most of the time it does sensible things. There’s simply no comparison between these products, they are totally different. I’m sure most serious users are on this or one of the other external ATC solutions.
As to FS24 with taking time off over the new year I was looking forward to getting lots more flying in than usual. Instead I’m finding that doing DIY and odd jobs around the house is more satisfying, which is at least seeing progress on the todo list and not all bad I suppose!
I find myself regularly starting up my computer hovering my mouse over FS2024, and then pause and think… neh, not in the mood for that now… And play DCS instead
.
Yesterday I did actually start-up FS2024, then in the main menu thought, what am I actually gonna do here? Then shut it down.
Sad, not sure if it’s just me, but I find myself skipping FS2024 more and more. I haven’t flown anything for a week or so… Just not in the mood to deal with all the mess.
I find that destroying hundreds of zombies in Call of Duty BO6 is very good therapy, after, or even instead of, a frustrating session on FS2024. ![]()
I get it.
It’s crazy. When I got 2020, I was getting up at 05:00 to fly. I couldn’t get enough of it. I was completely hooked.
I never spent time on forums. Sure, I’d look for answers there, but not participate with any regularity. This is the only forum I’ve ever had this sort of participation in.
My point? MSFS was something I loved and saw as a major part of my free time.
Now? I’m so disillusioned that I don’t even feel compelled to launch 2020, which I know works for the most part.
I’m finding myself getting back into other hobbies and interests. Not that I dropped them, I’m just spending more time with them.
From a purely business standpoint this should alarm Microsoft. They want me evangelizing and being focused on their product. They want me spending money on their marketplace. The fact that their latest release and their follow-up actions (or lack thereof) are severely driving me away is the antithesis of how this should be going down.
From a purely emotional, how does it feel perspective? It’s totally sad and depressing.
Your post reflects my feelings exactly.
It is almost embarassing to say: After 40 years in which flight simulation was synonym to fascination and many hours of joy for me, it now drives me down emotionally. After all it is just a computer game! I think a lot of these feelings stem from the fact that our anticipation of 2024 was just driven way too high by the trailer and announcements, and so the deception is correspondingly hurtful ![]()
From reading the user comments, it’s obvious that most people using fs2024 feel it’s more like a job than entertainment. That’s a problem. A BIG problem.
I’ve played nothing but MSFS 2024 since its release. I’ve finally come to terms this is not even an alpha release product. It has so many bugs, so many broken features, a “horrible” user interface, it’s simply not worth my time anymore. I’m going back to MSFS2020 where it’s fun to fly.
yeah because asobo left us during these holidays with a buggy, unfinished product unfortunately. It’s hard for me to enjoy flying in msfs 2024…
I have the same feelings, but to be fair, I’m sure the boots-on-the-ground devs at Asobo saw this disaster coming and called for a go-around but were overridden by the bean counters. As a former QA guy, I’ve seen this happen way too many times. There’s probably deep documentation on nearly every game-breaking bug sitting in some VP-level’s inbox on read because they needed to make a holiday launch for their bonus. If I’m a low level employee at Asobo I’m probably having a terrible holiday because I was forced to launch a product with my name on it that I knew was subpar and the entire community is upset with me when it’s just Frederic L’Avide who pulled released the kraken and then went to Monaco for a month after launch.
I am sure they did, since they made it. Maybe they should have made a better product and we wouldn’t be in this mess.
I don’t think any of them saw the Y2k25 career mode bug coming. Almost as embarrassing as KSP2 writing to the registry. I hope MSFS2025 turns out better than KSP2 and isn’t a full-price early access rugpull.
Uh, did I miss something?
What is the Y2k25 bug??
Career missions started depopulating at UTC 00:00:01 1/1/2025. New careers can’t be started with the current mission server state.
You’re kidding.
Oh boy…
