Aeroplane-Heaven Lancaster Discussion

Answer is no.

Reading the manaul, no auto pliot …but does have some sort of basic attidude / direction hold facility.

Did anyone get then supercharger lever to move?

Having said all I said above, about AH as a developer, I’m watching TwoTones stream, and I must admit, it does look tremendously cool

I continue to suffer cognitive dissonance on this, I truly would love a Lancaster, It was my favourite bomber, when I was a kid and obsessed with WWII planes, but the disappointment of the AH 707, and their Lockheed Electra makes me want to avoid it. Counterpoint is that while I haven’t flown it in a while, their Spitfire Mark I is a very good plane and the reviews for this one seem pretty good. I wonder if they just do a better job on warplanes?

It moves using mouse and animates ok.

It still is just a mediocre plane at best in my opinion. Far away from high quality.
It has not the same depth as the 707, so the difficulty in making this one is not nearly as high as with the 707. Aeroplane Heaven seems just to not advance much as an developer, quality wise.
The big plus is they finally started outsourcing the sound a while ago, that was the weakest aspect of their addons before that point. Now the sound is at least ok.
And while it flies nicely and feels plausible, I still can not enjoy it, because of the cockpit graphics. But that is just me. A lot of people might even enjoy the graphics.

Even on the ground or are you at altitude? Are you using legacy or locked interaction?

Just checked. I can operate on the ground with the mouse using both lock and legacy.

Thanks. Just not working for me with either method.

Had time for a couple of quick flights tonight and I’m impressed so far. The cockpit quality discussion above is definitely subjective, as it looks great to me, and feels close to what I see from photos of factory-fresh and restored Lancaster cockpits. What I can’t capture in screenshots is how amazing it looks in VR. Not just when doing pilot stuff, but when looking out the side over those the wing at those Merlins… Really awesome feeling.

Sounds is superb, and the flight modeling feels right on for a plane of this size and power. Performance and compatibility on FS2024 on my rig is excellent, no issues at all.

Question for the Lancaster experts: Given how often missions were flown at night, how did they see the instruments? Flashlight? Can’t find instrument lighing controls in the manual or the panels.

Otherwise, I’m really impressed. Grabbed some shots (168 Studios’ superb RAF Coningsby, where the BBMF Lancaster flies from, and the 1945 RAF Bardney scenery, which has lots of Lancasters parked around.

[EDIT: Moved some pics to a later post; I didn’t realize we’re asked to keep shots to 10 due to the forum software.]

I couldn’t find the instrument lighting controls either, but they are above your head and slightly aft. I think AH really could do with taking another look at the lighting because it is either way too bright (dazzlingly so) or off.

So this just had to be done..

I found that if you program a button or key bind for Cabin Lights, that it illuminates the same lights as the front two rotaries above your head, but at a more palatable intensity. Not sure what the two aft rotaries do. Definitely interior lighting needs to be worked on. Very much enjoying the aircraft otherwise.

Ah, thanks! Which specific control(s) did you bind for the less intense panel lights?

80 aircraft being processed for MP so it might be quite some time before released for XBox in MP lol.

Apologies JayDee. I’ve just jumped into a different variant and there’s a supercharger lever next to the No. 4 fuel cock in this one. I can’t get this to animate.

Just uploaded textures for NA-S ā€˜Sugar’s Blues’

I did tone down the weathering a bit, I hope you’ll like it

The TOGGLE CABIN LIGHTSs command. By default, there is no key bind. I assigned it to a button on my VPC control panel, along with a button for the flashlight.
