I posted here some results after applying the regedit workaround and had been so happy about it. Unfortunately since the last World Update the problem is back. I tried 3 long-hauls since the WU, all of them ended with FPS drop to single digits followed by CTD. I also tried today to revert back the regedit to original values, but again the same result.
I dont believe its coincidental with the WU. Although I dont have any idea what the root cause is.
I am running on RTX3060, Ryzen 7 5800, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD dedicated only to MSFS, settings are mostly high with a few exceptions on Ultra and TLOD 200, FPS locked at 48, no performance issues at all, but it is a deal breaker for me. I have 700hrs logged since last July, but I am ready to give up for now and give Xplane 12 a try whenever its released.
The eye candy part of this sim is awesome and cannot be compared to anything else, but what do I get at the end of the day is frustration of not being able to complete the flights because of this issueā¦also it is becoming very hard to be continuosly blind to the other issues this sim hasā¦This Beta is simply taking too long.
Big Update:
I believe I found the setting that causes the performance degradation over time. As many of you know, my flight path for this test is KDFW-PANC. I flew this route more that 20 times. Regardless of my configuration, I always had problem for the last 45 min and my FPS was dropping to 25 when I was was closing to JOH. During last few days I was testing different graphic settings and found out the reason of decreasing GPU load and then performance degradation is the Terrain Level of Detail āAt least for meā. Looks like anything over 100 will cause performance issue after a couple of hours flying. My default settings was Ultra, I changed it to High End PC and flew the same route. I had +80 FPS for whole flight, even over JOH my FPS was 83 or so. Then I changed the Terrain Level Detail to 200 and didnāt touch anything else, then flew the route again, over JOH the FPS was around 30!!! I paused the sim, changed the Train Level Detail to 10, applied and resumed the flight. The FPS jumped back to +80, the GPU load increased to 98 from 35. After 30 sec, I paused the sim again and set the Terrain Level Detail to 200 again, applied and resumed the flight. The FPS was +70 and I finished the flight with no problem at all. No stuttering, no performance issue. So, you can try the same trick and let me know if that works for you or not. I attached two pictures that shows the FPS and system load before and after the trick. I hope this works for all of you.
CPU: 12900K āWater cooledā
GPU: evga 3080TI āWater Cooledā
RAM: 32GM DDR5 6000 āAt the moment works at 4800ā
HDD: NVMeĀ® M.2 SSD 1TB Samsung Pro
that what I mentioned and the reason why I can allways reproduce the lower fps around this area with the a320n and why I can avoid that if I use another airplane which use less cpu. Therefore we can also see the same lower fps near ground at ENEV, where I mentioned the LOD setting. I can nowhere see a timeing factor ( my tLOD is currently 230 ).
Why the ground region have a seemingly high effect of fps also in case we fly at >25ft is may be because of that allways the same amount of data are loaded, but donāt know.
PS: there is a wish topic for a dynamic LOD ā¦
The time is playing the main role in my case. When my flight time is under 3H, I have no problem at all regardless of the area Iām flying. Example: My return flight from PANC to KDFW. The FPS is always high high when Iām Flying over JOH with the exact same setting and the same altitude. So, same area, same TLoD, same airplane, the only different is the flight time. From KDFW to JOH is almost 5H 30 Min and from PANC is about 15 Min. I do understand flying to some areas with more objects/details can cause performance degradation but, it should always be the same not changing based on the amount of hours youāre flying to reach that area. In my case Iām 100% sure that the combination of the Terrain Level of Detail and flight time cause performance degradation.
Attached picture is my last flight from KDFW with Ultra settings and TLoD setting on 100.
yes, of course.. I want to only mention that I can not reproduce the time factor, what ever I try. The fps goes down in certain regions ( because my high 230 tLOD ), but comes allways back to normal.
I can direct reproduce the tLOD setting effect with a) change tLOD itself or b) use a airplane which cause less cpu load and so I not run into mainthread issue. So.. seems a different behavior in your case and we still not know why. At least we are back by the old tLOD relation
Some news from my side:
Yesterday I uninstalled MSFS via Steam and deleted MSFS folder (C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator), renamed community folder and put only four addons in it: Headwind A339, Justsim EBBR, Tropicalsim TNCC and Navigraph Navdata.
Same flight as yesterday, same settings (Ultra preset) and same flight route.
Iām 5 hours into the flight and no performance degradation so far.
Did you all experience the performance bug on each flight or did you have problem-free long-haul flights in between?
Hereās my list of all the addons I normally have active:
Aerosoft Simple Traffic, Toolbar Pushback, Bijan Seasons Mod, FSUIPC free version, Gees landing analysis, no handle bar mod by Ither, LatinVFR Airport Jetway Pro, LatinVFR Airport Static Aircraft, LatinVFR AREX Global, LatinVFR Global Vehicle Traffic, Global AI Ship Traffic MSFS V2 Beta, Mesh for Himalaya and canary islands, all vessel products by Seafront, FS Birds West USA
As you can see this is already a huge list of possible culprits
Maybe we can narrow down the cause furtherā¦
But i would first assume that the reinstallation fixed the problem - Iāve never reinstalled the simulator since it was released.
I have fresh installed windows 11, fresh installed MSFS 2020 with no add-on at all. This is not happening in all region. I had long two flights KDFW-SPJC-KDFW with no problem, each leg about 7H āTLoD was 200ā. But, I always had this issue when I was flying KDFW-PANC and KLAX to KBOS āTLoD Setting on 200ā. I had no performance degradation when I tested the same route with TLoD 100. Again, the FPS may drops in some areas because of the scenery complexity which is absolutely normal, at the same time my GPU usage is still 98-100 and as soon I pass that area the FPS returns to previous numbers. If I set the TLoD to 200, when the performance degradation starts ānormally after 4-5 Hā, the GPU usage goes down from 99-100 to 35 and if recovers, it may comes back to 55-65 whish is still 30% down. Whatever it is, itās not following a solid pattern, My screenshots shows me, even with the exact same condition, the degradation is not same in each flight āabout 1~5% less or moreā
@snowrider349 Iāve seen various posts on different sites suggesting that toolbar pushback is causing problems. Iāve yet to remove it to try this myself but I will try it soon and Will post back results.
@snowrider349 Okay so just done a 2 and a half hour flight from egcc to lepa fbw experimental I uninstalled and re installed toolbar pushback and the results were 10 times better hardly any fps drops or degradation. Few stutters here and there on approach to lepa which is to be expected as the airport loads in but apart from that, best flight Iāve done in a few weeks. For me toolbar was causing the problem however uninstalling and installing again fixed it for me.
If I pause the sim the FPS shoots straight up. The rest of my PC is running great. This issue is narrowed down to in-game. I had this FPS issue last month dating back to December or so. Usually the video card drive was my problem. I also removed the pushback tool and then put it back when the flights were running ok. 4 hours in from BOS-SFO my FBW a32x Experimental version dropped down to 2-5 FPS and the plane was bobbing left and right like a boat until finally it just took a nose dive. Up until my last flight.. my flights were flawless 30+ FPS.. even flew from SFO-BOS with no issues and then my issues started the next day on my return flight. I do keep all of my addons up to date. They could be the issue? Iāll start with removing the pushback tool.
Most probably they did server side fix / optimization.
This also happens in SU9 Beta where suddenly in my yesterday flight the Main Thread utilization is decreased and the sim feels smoother than the SU9 Beta initially released.
Strange⦠Iāve not changed anything else other than the toolbar pushback and my fps has improved now. did have a strange issue yesterday though where my sim would ctd after filling in the perf page on the fbw experimental on the ground at klas⦠honestly removing toolbar pushback and installing again kinda worked for me but there will be something else somewhere thatās causing the degradation. Does anyone know if its worth messing around with the rolling cache or leaving it as it is?
Just finished a flight from KBDL to KORD and flight was perfect. First time in months. What changed?
I have changed nothing on my pc as far as hardware or software. I will fly the same flight later tonight from KORD to KBDL and see if luck holds and the flight goes well.
Same here! Moderate hardware, I had no problems in the past.
Now I flew a section of a bush trip and I almost crashed because of the FPS drop.
I checked the temperatures those were normal.
