Huge gratitude for the Microsoft team for this. It took a while, but I am so glad the community’s voice was heard on this. The Marketplace will be better off for it! And thank you to @Av4ngel for utilizing your platform, even breaking with what content you prefer to make, to cover this issue. I think that exposure really helped.
I think it goes to show: this isn’t just a single dev that’s the issue. There’s a systematic problem with the Marketplace where devs market misleading products and get away with it.
For sure, MS need to strike those devs that pop up out of nowhere. And there needs to be a follow-on policy to prevent this from recurring; otherwise these guys will just come up under a new name.
I have a feeling this going to become a cat and mouse game with this guy constantly rebranding himself until MS request and verifies personal/company/legal id or something like that.
Or better, establish and most importantly, enforce rules that prevent these things from happening.
I think the first step would be to return to a heavily curated method of checking the stuff that’s gonna be released on the marketplace.
that’s the thing though, I’m convinced this isn’t a new dev. It’s just mscenery rebranding a while ago to try and dodge lower ratings.
I fear the same too. We must all be vigilent and report our concerns. This has set a precedent.
You know, if he comes back and abides by the rules of honest representations of the poor quality, does not over inflate his ratings, gives adequate pictures and honest descriptions of all of the aircraft, has proper contact details which are responded to, has visibility on the net, then sure, sell your products.
This stuff would be less of a problem if there were a existing and easy refund process, or an enforcement to let people have the 1 day test period for ALL marketplace content.
Refunds for everyone that bought this rubbish? Let’s not forget, Microsoft were happy to put this on their platform and take a share of the revenue for c.6 years?
Yeah, as it is now, it’s probably already or borderline deceptive advertising, which would be a felony in my region.
Shouldn’t be thanking anyone for being scammed
Given the team/individual’s past attempts, I predict “MSFScenery” will make an appearance.
I’m very glad Microsoft took action and has set an initial precedent for quality and accuracy of add-ons. I don’t recall ever seeing this happen publicly in 2020 or 2024 prior to this event.
I think that is a step too far for us to expect. Let us just be happy with this result. Sorry for those who were caught out with these products but at least this will hopefully never happen again in the future.
Good move. Hopefully they’ll also plug whatever process/API/etc. vulnerability allowed MScenery to inflate its reviews as well.
And to be fair, they should also do the same for other publishers who have similarly unbelievable review scores, even if the abuse by others wasn’t at such a massive scale.
I haven’t been caught out and I think you are missing the point
It was not about quality. You don’t see them going after CaptainSim or Bredok3D, but then again, they portrayed their products as they were, and did not manipulate ratings. The Marketplace team and Microsoft still don’t want to be judges of content quality. What MScenery did though was practices that eroded the publics trust of the Marketplace. Microsoft was trying to say that their usage of ratings should weed out bad content, and yet MScenery was manipulating those ratings. You simply as a company cannot have a business partner who erodes the publics trust in your product. End of story. So this is great news. The Marketplace team and Microsoft will stand up against deceptive sales techniques.
Another issue is, is if these people that call themselves dev start creating ai images of cockpits. Ai is a tool that’s perfect for this type of thing. ■■■■! I may have given MScenery another idea?
Surely Microsoft can use ai to find ai creations in the MP? Just a thought!
Well, their official announcement specifically said “low quality” in bullet #1. So they are being dishonest?
I do not. I just wanted to know what you were basing that on. I’ve not bothered to look closely at it as the AI image that first came up was laughable.
I also require actual evidence, not fish smells, but you have some good evidence there. I was just asking.
Amazing
Our voices were heard
Thanks to the MSFS team for making the marketplace fair for all!
Well done to everyone sharing your thoughts on this matter.
MSFS is still getting stronger ![]()
Does the removal of MSCenery include the removal of Scenery Creations?
It is obviously the same dev. I hope we don’t have to go through months and months of thread posts to get these MP products dealt with as well.
