AI traffic for XBOX

Hi,

Now that WASM support is available on XBox. Is there any plan by any of the AI Traffic developers, such as FSLTL, to have products on Xbox market place?

I truly hope so, but i don’t think that WASM has anything to do with that?

I would say no. Stuff like FSLTL or AIG works via injection from outside the simulator. Microsoft would need to host the mods on the marketplace and make it possible to run external 3rd party software on the console. They won’t do that.

Performance is a factor too. I’d imagine a full to the brim KLAX would make a series S self combust. Even high end PCs can be brought to their knees.

Edit: Thinking about this a little further, maybe preset options, like they do currently with console titles. Expecting like for like with PC would be unrealistic. Maybe once this rumoured freeware marketplace launches?

There must be a way to do it though, right?
DC-6 is a complicated plane but seems to be working fine on Xbox.

The reason we don’t see real airline AI traffic has nothing to do with WASM. It’s due to a single setting that can be changed on PC but for some silly reason has been locked down on Xbox.

Here’s a copy of my post with all the information that I posted in another thread.

"I was going to make a post about this as it’s something I’ve recently been researching and wanted to make the community aware of.

There was an add-on in the market place that allowed the generic aircraft to be displayed with their real-life liveries for AI traffic using the live traffic that comes with MSFS as an injector, It was called Simple Traffic by Aerosoft and was removed due to it not functioning correctly some of the time due to a choice Asobo /Microsoft make with the Xbox platform and sim settings.

It’s not about licensing issues or anything else like that.

Basically the option ā€œUse Generic Aircraft Models (AI Traffic)ā€ is unavailable on the console. This setting is switchable on and off in the options settings of the PC version but isn’t selectable in Xbox at all due ā€œOptimizationā€ concerns by the powers to be.

Take a quick look at this short read as it explains it perfectly, this sums up the issue: https://devsupport.flightsimulator.com/questions/14453/xbox-vs-pc-settings-and-our-product.html

Aerosoft have stated many times if this was fixed we’d see their real life traffic addon back on the marketplace in no time, along with many others.

This isn’t anything WASM can fix and it seems like the developers aren’t getting anywhere with this issue either. I understand performance concerns but it’s easy enough to place a ā€œUsing this feature may negatively impact performanceā€.

Bottom line, if we as a community don’t push for this one single simple option that’s changeable on PC to be changeable on Xbox we will never ever ever see any type of addon that gives us the proper liveries for the traffic. Enjoy seeing those orange and white JetBlues.

Infact, this doesn’t effect just live traffic add-ons but any and all AI Traffic add-ons that rely on this setting. It’s actually a pretty huge thing, this should be right up there with wanting WASM support.

Knowing the limitations of the Xbox environment, it’s tricky.

In my opinion, a more economical and faster solution would be to fix the model matching, show the correct textures using the libraries that we buy in the marketplace in the correct way and force developers to have a low poly model in their package to be used as traffic.
For example if we have pmdg’s boeing 737-800 and a texture library pack from Latin America, that would be enough to cover that area and get rid of the generic models. Also, this would further help with revenue for Asobo as we would have to purchase these aircraft and libraries.

In the end this alternative path would avoid Asobo having to deal with 3 huge problems which are: Dealing with licenses, dealing with performance issues as these traffic addons would affect performance and dealing with the closed Xbox environment again.

For me it’s already a win that this issue is getting some attentionšŸ‘

I can see the performance thing though. I notice that as soon some AI aircraft is in my proximity, whether it being landing, taking off, taxxing or spawning at a gate right in front of me( which is so silly when I am taxxing to that particular gate as well), the fps drops quite dramatically. But a correct livery on that plane shouldn’t make a difference, I suppose?

@PrimeEclipse is correct: some of the traffic-related settings are hard-coded on the XBox in order to limit RAM usage, and so cannot be configured by the user.

The first two missing settings are ā€˜Use Generic Plane Models (AI Traffic)’ & ā€˜Use Generic Plane Models (Multiplayer)’. These settings are most likely hard-coded to ā€˜On’ on the Xbox, which forces the sim to model-match using the corresponding generic AI models ONLY (e.g. generic twin-jet, quad-jet, private jet, etc) for AI and / or multiplayer traffic. That’s not so bad in itself, because while it doesn’t allow for exact AI model matching, it does still allow for generic-model based AI (e.g. Aerosoft Simple Traffic).

But the critical missing setting is 'Traffic Variety’. On PC, this can be configured to Ultra/High/Medium/Low, and determines the maximum number of different liveries that the sim can load into RAM per AI model. Ultra is unlimited, but low is just 2. This setting is most-likely hard-coded to Medium or Low on XBox, and so the maximim number of liveries loaded into the sim at any one time is severely limited. So it’s the hard-coding of this setting which prevents any AI livery add-ons from working on Xbox.

Have we had a ā€œAllow Traffic Variety settingā€ as a wish list topic yet? I can see no reason not to ask and see if Xbox has been optimised enough now to cope with implementing it?

I’ve seen a320s used by the live real time ai traffic, but most of the time it’s the generic pointy nosed aircraft at the gates.

Yes. Only got 35 votes though, so it got closed:

Idk how we should proceed with this issue. This is not fair at all. Assume we get study level aircraft with PMDG and Aerosoft. What’s next? Flying in dead skies with no traffic or some generic liveries?
So basically, because we (I) cannot afford a high end PC and got stuck with XBOX, should dream of immersion?

Tbh, at this moment, with even having the hope to have PMDG 737 in Xbox market place soon, I am so much disappointed. Whenever I think of starting a flight in MSFS, I think of the ATC and AI traffic issues and just don’t want to fly anymore. It’s like flying in a post apocalypse World.

How can we bring this up with Microsoft/Asobo. I believe as users we have the right to ask for the simplest of things to be added. After all, they were over promising at the beginning that there would be no difference between XBOX and PC users. Look how this panned out.

Ok, let’s give it a try

Plz vote here. Hopefully out voices will be heard by Asobo

Here’s what i think about it. It wasn’t like that from the beginning in PC too, it took what, more than two years to have a mature enough traffic livery pack which can be used with real time online traffic. I am sure for Xbox too, they will atleast try to figure something out. The thing about Xbox and MSFS is that MSFS is a small part of whole Xbox game sales. So MSFS specific requirements need to get a lot of attention before its addressed by the Xbox platform team.

But that doesn’t mean Asobo/Microsoft is ignoring Xbox. Introduction of WASM is the living proof of that. But yes, it takes time. If you need PC like fidelity and flexibility on Xbox then i have to disappoint you. You want PC flexibility, you spend the money and get a PC.

But that being said, the issue at hand have other solution for Xbox already. The model and livery pack itself is not much of a problem, if Just Flight wants, they can just create a Xbox specific model and livery pack only without the injector, and sell it on the marketplace. But the traffic injection can still come from the realtime online traffic system. And in one dev q&a Jorg already said that they have models for ai traffic ready but due to licensing issues with airlines, they cannot use their liveries in sim yet. So if they somehow figure that out, the real time online traffic will become similar to fsltl.

And as for the promise of no difference between pc and Xbox, that’s mostly true when it comes to the base sim. The differences you see come from 3rd party customisations and platform differences.

That statement was related to the vanilla version without any 3rd party software. Nobody in their right mind would claim that the console could run the same amount of mods like a PC. I think users who already had some experience with flight sims knew this. The situation is more a problem for completely new users who have no idea about how heavy modding can get.

problem for me is the real bad looking of the plane than their liveries .

that’s the major issue for me that make me fly without any AI traffic.

it’s just unbearable landing then taxiing and see in front if you those arrow noses …

and what about the orange A380 …???

it’s completely immersion killer

does someone know why such a miss of realism with those plane looking ?

I suppose the quickest fix to this would be to convince just flight to release their fs traffic fllet pack without the injector in marketplace and make it available to xbox as well. From what I’ve seen in pc, real time online traffic can pick and use those models and liveries without using any injectors. And airline to livery mapping is mostly ok. The default models still might show up for missing airlines in the fleet pack, but it should be a good compromise. That’s exactly what I did with AIG models before fsltl came along and simplified the injection process.
