Airshow Assistant - feedback and discussion

Today I bought the Airshow Assistant. Formation flying isn’t working properly for me. When I turn right or left, the wingmen fly straight ahead. They don’t respond to my flight inputs. Does anyone have a solution? MSFS 2024

Add-on was tested both on PC and Xbox successfully. It may have some conflicts with other add-ons, but it looks like WASM script was not initialised correctly. If you are on Xbox, you need to close the game properly - by removing it from Quick resume list.
In case of PC simplke restart is enough, but if it does not help - WASM debug tool is available, I can give you instructions how to turn it on.

I have it on my PC and MSFS 2024. The program worked great at first, but now it doesn’t. I’ve uninstalled all the additional add-ons. Unfortunately, Wingmen does what it wants. It doesn’t copy my input and doesn’t stay with me. Eventually, it reappears, only to disappear again. The program is so great, it would be great if you could help me.

Sorry, but had no luck to catch the issue. Vulcan is FS24 version from JustFlight.
Airshow may somehow affect other add-ons which also uses WASM or visual effects, but I can’t imagine how it may affect 3D gauges of the aircraft.

Thanks for taking the time to look.

I’m often wary about blaming one addon for problems with another, especially when other people don’t seem to have a problem, but at the moment having the AA disabled is working for me. JF said they will investigate it on their end, so hopefully they can shed some light.

Just as an FYI, using Airshow Assistant and the JF Vulcan is working fine for me. No problems at all with the plane.

I’ve been having issues with the plane library scanning, but the Vulcan and Airshow Assistant coexist perfectly for me. Wonder if it’s another add-on conflicting? Or if it could be a memory issue with your system? (I’m on a 64GB PC with a 24GB video card here.)

That’s a good point about memory, I have 32GB ram and 16GB Vram and I have to reduce texture resolution occasionally.

I’m fairly certain it’s not another add-on conflicting with the vulcan. Empty community folder and add-ons disabled in my library, then reenabled one by one.

I found the error. It was caused by the Parallel42 Campout add-on. Both don’t work together.

No doubt that’s one reason, but I definitely don’t own this and still saw the issue occasionally with the Vulcan and am 99% sure AA was also loaded. I’m more inclined to think it’s a VRAM limit, at least on my system.

Airshow has conflict with several //42 add-ons for a long time. Somehow their WASM affect SimConnect/WASM scripts behaviour (AI aircraft acts little different when Campout/FLow installed) which shouldn’t normally happens. I have reported it to the dev, got respond but no actual fix provided. Workaround applied from my end but it may not work correctly in FS24, need to test it again. In worst case I can only disable affected features when Campout installed and display the error with instructions.

As for RAM issue - you need to understand that calling other aircraft/liveries than yours as wingmen takes more memory. For example - when you have formation of 12 of same livery aircraft it takes, let’s say, 1GB of RAM (model + textures + sounds are same for each of them). Calling 1 wingmen of different aircraft will take 2GB of ram as it has different model/textures/sounds, and so on.
But if you haven’t called wingmen/tanker and issue still appear - something is wrong here. Sleeping add-on should take about 5MB of RAM and do no affect gameplay anyhow.
Simple experiment you may do is load the flight in the middle of the ocean with AA active, measure how much RAM/VRAM process uses, disable AA, restart the sim and measure again. It will not give accurate results but maybe the difference will be noticeable - such happen in case of memory leak when single error in the code takes gigabytes of RAM.

Honestly it’s not a big deal for me since I only occasionally tripped over it. I’ve no idea if the issue is with the Vulcan or AA, or some weird combo of both… but that doesn’t explain why it only occasionally happens. In the interest of helping troubleshoot I’ll do some tests and share anything useful here!

Think I am about to ask a silly question so here goes…..when I select Airshow Assistant and wing men I am only able to see them flying the same Aircraft that I am.

Please could someone give me a step by step guide as to how to create the BBMF so that I can recreate flypasts at some of my favourite locations?

Thanks in advance

Neil

I would like to know that as well. So far I can only use the same aircraft as wingmen that I fly myself. Not necessarily with the same livery can that be selected as well?

Also, I keep reading about an aircraft scan but how do you do that? I have the recent FS2024 MP version.

livery selection, same as aircraft models scan button are hidden under the wingman # button (at the bottom of the FORM tab). you need to scan models first, then liveries of the model(s) which you like to use (late scanning process will be simplified in FS24 version).

Okay, so once you have scanned for installed aircraft how do you select the one you want is it under the wingman number?

Pick the wingman you want to swap, you should see a big arrow over the selected wingman. Then you can pick from the aircraft and livery list below. In my experience not every aircraft and livery appears in the list - no idea why.

Thanks, I wil check it out!

Thank you everyone for your assistance in getting the most out of Airshow Assistant, have now got to find a Hawker Hurricane to complete my Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and we will be good to go.

any updates on the refuel addon for MSFS2024 ? the Touching Cloud website seems to be down for a while now, what’s going on?

Depends which add-on you are asking about. Airshow Assistant itself was updated to native FS2024 version weeks ago, some additional fixes will be applied next week - all AAR and formation related features will work properly then.
Refueling tankers package native update is planned but will not happen until all the scheduled aircraft and liveries added into FS2020 version. You can use this add-on in FS2024 without issues in legacy mode - just find it in content manager and activate.
