Carenado has been porting across all its planes one by one from earlier sims. There is a near zero chance they will ever change the textures, but they might fix small bugs with the avionics like the DME issue you cited. The best place to report that would be on Carenado’s own site.
The VS button (if there is one) I could not identify in the cockpit. Is there one and if there is could you post a screenshot for me please. I found I had to pitch her up or down and then activate the AP again. The VS slider (Or pith slider on AP) did change the speeds once I had done that.
Putting in frequencies is very fiddly I found. I will also check the no 2 DME, I did not try that. For Carenado though, this is a step up from the normal functionality though.
In X-plane, you mention it was better developed - can you elaborate what was better for us to understand please? It would be good to know because then perhaps we could try to get those upgrades if they have already done it elsewhere.
Got it yesterday for MSFS2024. Still trying to figure some things out. Would like a manual but realize Carenado manuals are mostly just screenshots of performance measures. Had trouble getting the left engine up to full power so I need to go back to the checklist as I must have missed something. Never could get it off the ground but that requires a bit more experimenting.
As for mapping the condition levers, not unexpected they don’t work except with the mouse. Same thing with the SAAB340 and Beech 200.
Its OK for a Carenado aircraft and this much you can say: It’s a far cry from the krappe MScenery used to push out and good riddance to them.
If you guys have issues with getting more power/RPM out of the engines I recommend to restart the sim after installing if you haven’t already.
Got lots of engine related issues when trying to fly it right away.
I had no engine issues with the cargo version.
Hi @Pilotfirst9999 ,
From what I remember, and it has been a very long time since I played XP11, I can recall that the condition levers were operational with my Saitek throttles which I used then. Also the sounds were more like the real aircraft.
I am very sensitive to the correct engine sounds in general, having grown up next to an airport and I took pride in myself being able to differentiate between aircraft having similar type engines. i.e. a B737-200 vs a DC9 vs a Super Caravelle vs a B727. They all had JT8D engines, but different versions and installations and therefore had slightly different sounds.
For what type of missions is this thing useable in career? This is really important for my buying decision…
My Brother-in-law flew these for Cobham out of Hurn airport near Bournemouth, he likes it, though not a flt simmer, but to get a real-life pilot opinion has me sold on it, Carenado is as Carenado is…let’s just enjoy!!!
Thanks. I’ll try again. They worked fine when I loaded at a runway with engines already running.
It’s possible its yet another plane that has some fuel valve or other that is manipulated when moving the condition lever, but not if you have it bound to a phystical lever.

This Aspen bug was the same with their Baron 55. Which I own. I’ve emailed them directly and via their Zendesk. I either think they don’t know how to fix it or just don’t care.
It also won’t show vertical glidepath information (such as during an RNAV (GPS) approach with LPV minimums)
I have supported Carenado in the last year but their latest 3-4 releases have major avionics bugs. Their King Air 200 has a serious approach bug as well. If you just mess around with their stuff VFR and don’t care about the instruments (or sound - cause their sound is poor), their addons are good enough.
I don’t have any of those aircraft from them so it’s no issue to me.
I never thought they were deep into the avionic systems, so I avoid buying those.
The ones I do have from them are fine (Waco, V-Tail, etc); for VFR, instruments, and sound so I’ll disagree with you on those points. Models are great too.
Apart from that you like it yes? ![]()
It’s not a lack of power available. When you conditions levers high with these Garretts, you should see 96% (+/-1) RPM on the props and it should sit at 96+ all day long so long as they are left in high. As it is right now, conditions high doesn’t do much at all and we still sit at (more or less) low idle RPM of 70-ish until we give it some power. Fortunately the sound somewhat follows the condition levers so they sound like they’re in conditions high which helps with the immersion.
That being said, I’m quite happy with this thing so far. It’s got a few bugs here and there but generally flies really nice. It feels appropriately heavy, isn’t twitchy in any axis, and is a joy to hand fly. Stalls are believable with a moderate wing drop. Engine-out behaviour at slower speeds feels reasonable (though it could be have more impact at speed) and even breaks at or around Vmc. The sounds I do love and they are very reminiscent of the real world engine but could stand to be louder.
On the down side, flaps probably have too much drag, rudder trim is too sensitive, and she’s a bit too sensitive to turbulence. Fortunately I can mod out those things so it’s kind of moot. I know, I know - report it as a bug and hopefully blah blah. Engine behaviour isn’t perfect but it seems everyone has issues with programming Garretts. There are no start locks but that falls into the “I’ll allow it” category. Plus the digital HSI deal but I can fly with the analog and be totally happy.
It’s a recommendation from me.
Hi,
Just took the DO-228 for another short hop.
Noted that the props feather when shutting down the engines. This should NOT happen as the TPE331 engines are geared and do not have a free power turbine unlike the PT6 etc.
They stay flat if you shut down via the Engine Control Switch (apparently called the Starter switch in the 228) overhead per proper real-world procedures. Do not shut down via the condition levers. Feathering when using the condition levers is to be expected
Not saying you’re wrong to call it out, but this is certainly not a level of detail to be expected from a $25 Carenado product, at least based on track record.
Hi,
Actually I have been quite impressed with some of the Carenado Cessna models. They look beautiful, fly and sound great and do what they are supposed to.
Granted they do not have failures or popping circuit breakers, but I like it when my aircraft work instead of failing.
I was only trying to point out some of the issues I have encountered with the Dornier in the hope that they will be addressed. ![]()
