Anti aliasing regression: A lot of shimmering/aliasing happening ever since SU1 beta was pushed

No difference for me, but I use DLSS. TAA is way too slow for my system + VR.

If you zoom into the runway do you see the thin strips though? Asking for trouble with all of those lines:-)

Can’t really zoom in VR. I’m starting it up now to take a look though

I saw these grooves in the concrete for the first time yesterday, so before latest update. And I aggree, the resulting moire effect is very hard to handle for computer graphics. Some similar effect is often visible on slightly wavy sea.

I believe it is the moire effect as you describe and I was able to confirm it. But it is difficult to replicate because one has to be at a certain spot on the runway and doesn’t bother me that much. I don’t use VR.

However, the zigzag patterns you pointed out I have noticed as well. I voted in the thread you reported the bug.

Someone mentioned KNID above, this is what it looks like for me.

Can’t see what there is to complain about O.o

This is not VR of course, looks roughly the same, but VR doesn’t lend itself to screenshots too well.

I’m not on the beta but just for the record, at KNID runway 03 I can see the grooves, the moirĂ©, and the zig zag lines as well. Don’t see antialiasing problems / shimmering there right now but had some over the past days at different airports. Again, not on the beta.

Exactly, while there always has been some aliasing going on for certains objects and surfaces, this beta just has taken it to another level in alot of situations i never saw before. We all understand that there will always be some of this, but the issue is that it has increased!

i have felling is more a issue with autogen airport then sim issue

It happens at third party scenery where it didn’t used to before

Inibuilds Dubai, Aerosoft Zagreb, Berlin, Simwings Munich, I remember it at all these I think.

But never did before beta and nothing has changed with the airports.

This was always a grooved surface, even then, as we said this is a new regression from the beta. Never saw this before at EKVG (that has grooved surface, and has had it for YEARS with the right scenery) and suddenly boom it’s there in the beta.

@dustNinja7871

I only really use 3rd party scenery.

I can’t remember sorry, did you find a default airport where the issue occurs?

It will be useful for the devs to be able to show it in vanilla default sim that is 100% reproducible.

KNID at runway 03 has grooved lines, so its very clearly visible there. Completely default scenery

Wasn’t motivated for BugSimulator2024 the last days, but decided to start it up again today.
For this bug here I now also noticed that it’s not just the lines/bars on the airfield and the ground textures in general.
Also the FMS screens are heavily affected
just flying in the Vision Jet:
the white lines around the virtual buttons on the lower screens are just an ugly shimmering zigzag line.
No upscaling used, no fluid motion frames used, only TAA.
What the heck is going on
???

I did notice the lines also aliasing more than usual in the cockpit, like for example the F/A 18 :frowning:

What I don’t want to lose is the ability to see incredibly far off into the distance like you can with this version. The environment has incredible realistic depth to it. I think a little shimmering is worth that. The perfect should not be the enemy of greatness. my feedback - hopefully also to ‘be logged’

I think you can have both, without ruining others
I remember at 2020 launch, the ground textures looked amazing and also from a distance, but there was no shimmering like this

Definitely noticing more shimmering in the beta. Looks better in the public build, the resolution, that is, sharp and well fleshed out.

I remember everybody at work commenting how immaculate MSFS '20 looked for the first couple of months after launch. Then the quality started to regress gradually with each SU. I hope the opposite happens with 24. It needs a generous dose of developer love and I think the software IS capable of showing both great visuals and consistent performance on Xbox and PC, provided there is enough optimisation and optimal asset utilisation.

This regression has been identified and fixed for the next Beta build, so we look forward to hearing your feedback once that goes live.
