Anti aliasing regression: A lot of shimmering/aliasing happening ever since SU1 beta was pushed

At the time this thread was posted I could not understand the issue, since I did not have this problem. Since today I understand. I haven’t changed anything in my configuration though. This lack of consistency is really annoying. Pls inform us when things change on your side.

Fantastic news!

Hi folks,

We just released a new test build to those of you enrolled in the SU1 beta (1.3.19.0). For those of you who had this shimmering/aliasing issue in previous beta builds, can you confirm if you are still experiencing it in .19?

Thanks,
MSFS Team

Great news. Can’t test until tomorrow unfortunately.

Edit: Not sure why this post was flagged and hidden. I would really have liked to provide on-topic feedback. Unfortunately was not able to du to another bug. I feel the community team should know this. I’m not the only one plagued by this so far unacknowledged bug as the link I provided shows.

Original post:

I would like to tell you but unfortunately have this issue again:

I am still experiencing the moire effect which it’s impossible to take a photo of.

But worse are the undefined shadows that pop in and out. Photos follow taken at KNID.

I believe that is something else then, because you still have this zigzag patterns overlapping the runway texture; making the aliasing a lot more prominent i think. Should still be looked at, but i think the zigzag bug is unrelated to this issue in that sense.

I also saw this when i tested out that airport since it was default. We would prob need a dedicated report on that issue, to fully address it, if doesn’t Asobo tackle it on without prompt.

To add to the zigzag thing, i dont see it everywhere, it could be something with KNID perhaps

Could be similar to what reported in that topic: Grass textures issue on custom airports

I have same issue in MSFS 2020 since one of the update, which is i think it was started in SU9 update.

It’s because everything is too much blurred by TAA and then Asobo trying to sharpen it, but it adds too much sharp where it’s not neccessary and then it looks how it looks. Best thing asobo can do with that would be adding more options to customize TAA antialiasing settings like SCS do it in ETS 2 or ATS. I stopped playing 2020 because of one things was blurry, but other one was too sharpen with moire effect. It’s causes real pain to my eyes and i can’t fly more than 30 mins. Also Asobo could add settings to customize internal sharpen.

I have 1080p 23,8 inch monitor and it’s really issue for me. I heard that on 4k monitors this issue isn’t that big but man… i would need RTX 4080 to run it on 4k monitor.

I’m glad someone starts talk about that issue.

At premiere of MSFS 2024 i was doesn’t see this issue in 2024 sim or it wasn’t that noticeable, i don’t know how it looks now, because i don’t have game pass anymore to test SU1 update of 2024.

I’m completely loss interest in sim because of that bug, and now i don’t even flying in 2020.

While this issue has been fixed, the patch that fixed it also regressed some texture resolutions of certains places on atleast EKVG.

This is how it was before SU1, before the aliasing regression occured, high res textures and looking very nice.

SU1 hits, the ground textures didnt regress, but they had that aliasing issue that was then fixed - but it also brought this low res to some textures. I’ve checked alot of other airports, seemingly unaffected so this is a weird one i think.

This is how it looks in the current build 1.3.22.0

It seems like a LOD issue, since the files themselves have not changed whatsoever in the scenery, the sim seems to be displaying a LOD that you’d normally see when the camera is further away.

Anyone else notice the same other places? If so, i’ll go ahead and create another bug report as this should not go unchecked i think

I think that coincides with what we are seeing at KNID? Looks like the same thing only the asphalt is darker at EKVG.

You’ve also seen a similar downgrade in resolution at KNID? Ill go and check that on my system definitely.

It’s always been there. I posted photos a few posts above.

Interesting, last time i tested KNID it was high res textures for sure, checking again.

Just spawned in at KNID, i think i see what you mean yea. While the grooved lines appear sharp as normal, the actual runway texture are low res. Good find!

I looked around EKVG some more, here you can see a clear difference in how the textures are handled by the sim, asphalt/tarmac is downgraded compared to what it was before, sand/dirt is appearing normal and high res.

Hopefully this was just a dev mistake, since its odd to see such a big change when the versions before the AA issue didnt look anywhere near this low res. I dont think asobo just turned it down, to fix the aa issue, something else must have broken.

Def seems like a mistake, since most asphalt runways and aprons i’ve been around since the AA fix look perfectly normal and high res.

As I recall you were the one that discovered it. Remember the moire pattern? That’s still evident as well but distracting.

Yeah I think that’s a DEV mistake too. It’s really noticable in that photo.

Yep, I think i was the one to at least report it first.

Yeah it’s def still little bit present at KNID, but it doesn’t flicker when the camera is static for me anymore, that’s at least something for me

[Moderator edit: please do not ping the Community Managers] would you think it’s best to make a full new report of this regression: Anti aliasing regression: A lot of shimmering/aliasing happening ever since SU1 beta was pushed - #74 by dustNinja7871 or can you relay this feedback to the devs since it seems related to the fix they pushed for this issue?

Sorry about the ping, i wasn’t aware of the rule.

Hello @dustNinja7871,

Please create a new bug report thread for this and include as much information as possible, including the beta build number where you first noted the regression.

Thanks,
MSFS Team
