Any explanation why "Back on Track" is not optional?

Has anyone from Asobo ever explained why the “Back on Track” feature why you crash is NOT optional and can’t be disabled ?

It’s a perfectly reasonable feature to include in the sim, but doesn’t seem reasonable to give us no way to turn it off.

If I recall correctly, it’s in the wishlist (not sure if it wil make into SU1, SU2 or when, but it has been widely requested and if my memory doesn’t fool me, it’s been recognized by Asobo/MS for future updates).

I see that but I’m honestly trying to understand the thought process of whoever initially decided to make it mandatory in the first place.

Well, I don’t think there was any thought process… just look the amount of bugs. I mean, you have to enable anti ice engine to start the SkyCourier…

Edit: I just found another bug, the EFB doesn’t show the same procedures as online planner…

This seems beyond a bug to me into something deliberate - and honestly even by the standards of previous Asobo misunderstandings of how people use flight sims this is pretty obviously bad (up there with the insanely stupid new control system)

It is deliberate. I wrote it up as a bug, which was closed as by-design .

Which brings us back to the original question - why did they design it this way (and presumably ignore a whole bunch of feedback from alpha/beta testers telling them it was bad) ?

I didn’t mean to say it was a bug, I meant to say that the overall thing doesn’t have too much thought process behind, or was really rushed -or both-, hence you can’t disable it.

It drives me nuts. Last time, as loading doesn’t work, I took off with the DA42 with the CG completely out of range. After a huge effort and using almost all the runway, barely took off. Reached 3000ft AGL and entered an irrecoverable spin.

So, the back on track entered a loop where it spawned me in the very same spin everytime. Should have recorded it, even called my wife to get a laugh.

But not, it’s not a bug and I didn’t mean that. It’s just lacking the option to disable it. The bug reference was to point that lot of things in 2024 are rushed and lacking.

It’s alpha stage software sadly. A lot is missing, feature lacking or simply bugged. Just filed a new one.

There are many UI/UX changes that have left me with the same curiousity as to why they made the change, particularly when they limit functionality or have made the use of an element more difficult.

I know this gets thrown around a bit on these forums, but one has to wonder if the designers of these changes even use the simulator.

The ATC window requiring a scroll bar to see all the possible response choices smacks of someone who didn’t even test the change with the default ATC. I cannot see how that person wouldn’t have immediately said, oh that can’t work, because it is just way too awkward and cumbersome.

Since the earliest FS2020 testing it’s clear Asobo’s understanding of flight sims was limitted and with '24 they somehow seem to have gotten worse.

Having “Back on Track” turned ON permanently, DOES give you the option.

  • (1) If the sim puts you “back on track”, you can always manually CLOSE the flight if you wish,
    BUT

  • (2) You will ALWAYS have the option to accept the “back on Track” at any time , because it is NOT an option to turn it off.

Looking at it like above, the current design decision is explainable

Well it doesn’t make too much sense anyways. It’s like removing the quit to sektop button because killing it from the task manager works reaches the same result :joy:

I better shut up, maybe some UI designer takes the idea

If the sim paused at that point with a box on the screen asking if you want to continue you might conceivably have a point but as it stands now, not even close.

Are you really suggesting they add a “Press any key to Continue:stuck_out_tongue:

Asobo’s portfolio consists primarily of disney games. Im consistently perplexed how they were given the keys to this franchise to develop basically with zero experience with sims or knowledge of aviation in general.

Right place, at the right time, with the right contacts at Microsoft ?

In hindsight, was there a better choice at the time , when a new MSFS was being considered ?

After all, Asobo was seen to have VR experience as well ??

IIRC, they produced a demo using Bing map data to model the world and showed it to Microsoft. It was that model which made Microsoft think about resurrecting the then rotting corpse of the Flight Simulator franchise, which they did brilliantly with FS2020.
Unfortunately now it’s started to rot again.

Someone remembers / know how it all got started, and it seemed to be a great idea/opportunity at the time, with the current computer technology being ripe for a new MSFS franchise.

The team that put together that demo, became the base of the developers … and here we are where we are now.

No, I was just coming up with ways you could conceivably have been right.

There just needs to be an option to turn “Back on Track” off in the settings.

Is there anyone who hates Back on Track more than I?

I duffed a water landing in the Kodiak and being tossed back into the air as though nothing happened is so much worse, to me, than having to start over.
