Any work around for the porpoise effect?

I can’t seem to fly above FL16 without a terrible up and down rocking motion with the TBM or Longitude. This started recently for me. I’ve tried switching from live to preset weather without much luck. If I turn off AP the plane flies normal but seems very trimmed up. Anyone know a work around besides hand flying for hours?

Yah, learn how to trim your plane correctly…lol Just kidding…

Without knowing anything more like what speed your going, I am guessing that you are flying faster than cruise. If you are its almost impossible to fly completely level , even AP has trouble with it… Try flying slower…Use combination of throttle and trim to level off…

The plane naturally wants to climb and the faster you go the more it wants too…

get as level as you can with trim wheel then slow down to level off… it takes practice to trim planes properly. Youll figure it out…

Use VS instead of FLC. That’s what I do in the TBM.

Thanks for the tips but I have like 80 hours with the planes, and 1000 hours on FSX. I’ve avoid the FLC as I heard that might cause the issue. Flying the same procedures as before, It’s a new issue since the latest patch.

OK… maybe its a tbm issue… i fly mainly the Caravan and dont have an issue with it… Good luck…

If others have this issue please VOTE … Thanks! I was hoping for a workaround in the meantime but sounds like I’m dead in the water.

30 plus hrs on the tbm, nothing like this going on at.

Ap rock steady at every alt I’ve used, 400 to 30,000
Not every level of course :smirk: as well as manual controlling…

Check all of your keyboard setting, throttle Quad, stick and/or yoke, mouse also… settings for conflicts. Disconnect one of the stick/yoke if both installed.

Delete all of the autopilot key settings, for every controller you have. There may be a conflict.

Then just use your mouse to set ap for a test. Default key setup is always avail to go back too.

I’ve experienced this for the first time on the TBM yesterday on FLC during the climb. The porpoise was so violent that the only way I got things under control was to disengage and re engage the autopilot. It didn’t happen again in cruise thankfully.

The problem is horrible with the Longitude. We must be true and admit that there are problems. Just because it doesn’t happen to everyone, doesn’t mean it’s not happening!

Yeah I’ve had this happen in the cj4, and tbm as well.
Later that day I had flights that didn’t do it - only difference was that I only used vs mode instead of flc
Lots of factors at play since weather was different - but never turbulent enough to make the plane bounce like that!

This must be a new issue, as I was at FL400 above a hurricane, not that it makes any difference at that altitude, but it was rock solid, other than compensating for aggressive crosswinds at times, I remember seeing 56kts at one point, but not vertical oscillation could be seen.

I bought a saddle a spurs…yew haw!!!

@hobanagerik Ha! Yeah really…

I pretend it’s an emergency landing simulator now…

I have 2 HOTAS controllers hooked up (Alpha and X52)…I noticed that on 2 occasions, one stick would conflict with the other and I had to clear by re-centering the x52.

Most often they are smooth and either will work fine.

Doesn’t sound like your issue, but thought Id mention it.

This bug gives your flying a real sense of … porpoise…

badum-tishhhhh

If you search the forum, this problem has been reported by many people. Happens when autopilot applied. Do a search and check out what others have said.

Does this happen at any speed? Also, have you disconnected your controllers and tried to fly with just the keyboard to see if it might be due to something with your specific controllers?

No if I just turn off autopilot it flies fine with my controller. The AP just goes nuts now and I have used it for hours since the initial release.

Have a look here at the latest post in there:

Interesting, I’ll have to try some of the weather tips. I didn’t have this issue until I started recently getting better live weather. (game showing wind air speeds aloft not stuck on 3 knots) I’ve tried using preset weather but only after it was going crazy. Maybe if I start with that…
