Amen to that. I look to do the best build I can afford for future proofing against game and tech advances, expect to upgrade the system at two years or so - latest GPU and RAM usually and expect to come to the end of the road at the five year mark as the system becomes completely outdated for what I expect from it.
My rigs are built just for flight simming. Very little else on there apart from the necessary apps to service the flight sim experience.
The engineers are working on improving the tracking algorithm. There’s an upcoming patch that will enhance tracking stability, including improvements for the controller as well.
Would be great to also vastly improve SmartSmoothing to make it on par with for example ReverbG2 WMR Motion Reprojection.
Don´t hold your breath for it. As far as I know it´s been broken for years now. What a joke. I am so glad I returned mine in time.
Why make a high resolution headset and then totally miss out on THE most crucial function needed to make it run smoothly (reprojection). Can´t wrap my head around it.
None of even the highest end PC´s today are able to push the pimax to native refresh rate without reprojection in even MSFS2020. It´s a useless product, unless you are only playing Tetris VR
Agreed. Reprojection in Pimax Crystal is very bad. Even locking at half refresh rate is not smooth as G2 was.
Customer Service is all I can say about Pimax .
Let me be very clear. I do my own extensive research from many different and respected sources before making any purchasing decisions.
I am afraid that anonymous pimax haters, preferring cheap headsets hold no water for me. I just question their motives for taking a leak on someones campfire. The thread asked about pimax super owners, not the cheap end of the market owners, who never actually ever owned a pimax super.
You were not invited and are just gatecrashing the party.
I made my decicion and will stand by it, come what may. That is what grown ups do. They take responsibility for their decisions.
I wasn’t aware there were known Lighthouse tracking issues. I thought it was just something with my config. Inside-out is near flawless for me when I have all my room lights on.
I tried out the latest Pimax Play last night V 1.42.1 on my Crystal Super and although inside out tracking is smooth when I move my head around, I still get these tiny random jitters where the whole image will jiggle slightly unless I hold my head very still. Especially noticeable in MSFS 2024.
I improved it by setting Piserver.exe to priority to high in task manager, but it’s still there. I’m not sure if other Super owners notice this, or it’s a hardware fault with my Super. It’s feels like the tracking is either over sensitive, or there is some sort of noise in the hardware that is causing it.
It would be nice if Pimax Play could include a sensitivity slider for the headset tracking to reduce jitter as in the Toolkit…sometimes even your heartbeat can cause jitters with VR headsets.
Even in Pimax home; looking at the stars you can see them randomly move tiny a amount up/down or left/right.
I’m going to open a ticket today to get some advice.

Just a vague thought that passed through my not very efficient mind and a stab in the dark.
Does your pimax video input cable pass close to any cables carrying mains AC current?
Noted. I also mentioned the jittering issue in this morning’s meeting. The engineers will look into it and see what can be improved, mainly focusing on the tracking algorithm.
The sensitivity slider sounds like a workaround, though I’m not sure if it can be implemented.
Ah, you were referring to the LH tracking. I was talking about the inside-out tracking
Yes sir. There were 2–3 beta patches for Smart Smoothing earlier, but the developers are still working to improve it.
Thanks Calvin.
As I said the headtracking for me works well, it’s just when I rest my eyes on the instruments or the window frames that there is this tiny random jiggle that catches my eye.
Hopefully the engineers can come up with something like the predictive dampening setting that Mbucchia added to the Toolkit.
Apart from that I’m really enjoying the Super, as the visuals are just amazing.
Great to hear that! We’ll see what the developers can do about the minor jittering issue.
“Someone mentioned doors and windows”
I should hope so. You are practically sitting on the rooftops.
. My Oculus CV1 could do that…
On a separate note, Calvin, I wonder if future Pimax PLay software has more visual guides on how the IPD sliders work and what changing them would do. Its a bit hard to understand the eye position in relation to the lenses.
Maybe future versions of Pimax Play could incorporate a diagram of a face / eyes and the sliders and canchange in real time to show how the IPD changes visually ?
for example, if i slide the horizontal IPD offset to Plus or Minus , the pointer on the face diagram also changes to visually show us whats going on ?
For now its just guess work to change the IPD offset horizontally or vertically incrementally until we get a clear image
First step to running the super with respectable frames is now complete.
Ordered.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
MSI X870 Tomahawk motherboard.
64gig of Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000hz RAM.
1200w PSU ready for next gen GPU next year to give a good overhead.
Coolermaster 360 AIO for cooling.
GPU upgrade will have to wait till after Xmas. Probaby not have received my super till then in any case. In the meantime it will be nice seeing my 4080 utilisation get up to 100%.
Also, I’m on the original Crystal. From what I’ve read the Lighthouse tracking should be better but inside-out is near perfect anyway.
why tag me so late after my post? I was not watching this thread anymore. You must be missing me.
You are right, I absolutely hate Pimax with a passion and will continue to try and beware others from making an expensive mistake.
I was actually trying to give you good advice but very clearly money is no problem for and you seem very proud of it. However you seem to not understand that with VR money is not always equal to quality.
You are already in full denial of your bad purchase and are now trying to fix your mistake by throwing a couple more thousands of dollars at you PC. Classic downwards spiral. Oh boy will you be happy when you find out that you still won’t make full framerate.
I’ve done VR for 10 years or so now btw so I think I know exactly what I am talking about.
For now I think I’m done trying to help you, stranger.
edit forgot to mention that I owned a PCL for a couple days so I really can compare to my Q3 with virtual desktop which I guess none of you can so why even argue with me? Anyways, cheers
