Anybody Rocking The Pimax Crystal Super With 2024?

I have the 5090 + i9-14900kf and super,

Im using nyc as a base test, i cant keep the frame rate at 45, even with dlss on performance and pimax set to 90% res, it fluctuates from 40-45 basically and this is with smart smoothing off (in close to the city in the c172), so smart smoothing isnt working when enabled + 90hz mode.

If i switch to 72hz, smart smoothing seems fairly smooth, though it could use some improvement. My tLOD is only set to around 130 and objects at 100. The strobe effect feels minimal to me.

I have foveated at 0.20 in the sim, clouds on high

In pimax client there is the centralized priority rendering and quadview buttons to enable/disable.. i currently have those disabled, are those mainly for dcs or other applications (that dont have it built in)? Does it matter if they are enabled? It was my understanding centralized priority was for fixed foveated rendering as well.

I havent found any other way to increase performance much, except maybe turning on dynamic mode (which i think mainly is dropping the lods). I havent tried turning off raymark or contact shadows.

I believe this NYC test is using samscene addon, i have to try without.

Anyone else with this combo of hardware able to do 45 fps or above in this same region somehow at 90% res with this headset?

I did further testing on my above post, tested at KPIT airport (3rd party airport installed):

DFOV off in sim, 37-38 fps, with it on 42-44 FPS, not a huge difference.. also, 20 vs 50 on the slider in sim, NO change in fps, i found that startling?

DFR offloads some GPU work at the expense of the CPU load. You may check in the Developer mode if you are GPU or CPU limited.

with the developer fps, I dont know for sure, but this is looking more like GPU limited but it does say the dreaded limited by RdrThread (Gpu at 97% avg in gpuz however)

EDIT: in my case my issues were the motherboard/cpu, somehow things got reset, i lost my undervolt and 6400mhz ram setting etc, put all those back, im rockin 100% native in the pimax super in NYC area and its holding pretty much at 45 with TAA on in fact (smart smoothing), if i disable smart smoothing im around 51-57fps, if i switch to DLSS perf, for some reason that fps drops by about 4, so i’ve actually left it in TAA mode for now

Smart smoothing is working well for you? When I activate on my Super I got lots of warping artifact, even reaching 45 fps.

Just got my Pimax Super, coming from a Varjo Aero.

Everything is easy to setup, watched a couple of videos how other have done and how config should be in FS2024. Changed a lot of things to get decent FPS but still not near the Varjo when it ran at 39PPD totally smooth in TAA. The Pimax struggles and I need to get very low in settings to get the same FPS.

FOV is a not a dramatic increase and a lot of artifacts when editing rendering below 0.5

I will try one more time, otherwise I will return it within the 14 days

Do you have Dynamic Foveated Rendering (Quad Views) enabled in MSFS2024? And DLSS instead of TAA?

Yes, also tried to lower the value in the cifg file. A lot of artifacts is visible in the rendering box

Strange, as the rendering box follows your gaze, you should always see only the high resolution area.

FWIW, I got my Crystal Super 50PPD UW a few days ago. I came from the Crystal OG and have a 5090+9800X3D. In my personal opinion it is a very nice step up, particularly the brightness. I get very useable frame rates of 45fps+ with everything turned up to ultra or high with DLAA and foveated rendering.

Like others I would suggest this is all very subjective but I’m experimenting with foveated around 30-35 and find the difference imperceptible to my eyes (I’m using SU4).

Skimming this thread indicates a variable experience which is to be expected, probably the only strange standout to me was the person comparing Quest 3 with VD and clearly not understanding the relationship between frame rate and refresh rate with VR. I’ve also owned a Quest 3 and while it is indeed and excellent headset for the $$, it is not even in the same league otherwise.

How do you like and rate the UW FOV compared to your Pimax Crystal OG?

I’ve not actually measured it as such but I would say it is a noticeable uplift, not a “sell my first child to buy one” uplift, but certainly an improvement

Anyone tested the new su4 beta? su4beta 1.6.18.. The foveated slider seems to have no effect again for me, it was working well before. for instance, at eglc in JF arrow III i was about 52 fps at 30 on the slider. Now im 48 no matter if 20,30 or 40 etc? Wondering if its just me for some reason. [14900kf+5090]

Hello,

I recently received my Pimax Super UW (I used to have a Quest 3) and now I’m having problems with MSFS 2024. Even though I’m in a fixed position in the menu, I feel like the image is “floating.” It’s constantly moving, which is extremely unpleasant.

Has this issue been reported here before? Do you have this problem with the “basic” Pimax Super?

This is a known issue in SU4, SLAM algorithm problem fixed in next Pimax Play apparently.

You may be CPU (Render Thread) limited. You may verify this on the overlay on the Developer Mode.

Thanks I don’t think as this test I did hours before it updated and it worked fine (with . 16)

Turns out some of it, for whatever reason, is running simhaptic, maybe 2 fps loss (at least i think tho not 100% sure), at least in part, more so than the .16 to .18 change i think. Also, dlss version changed, despite having using latest in nvidia app, used swapper to get back to the latest version number.

I can notice some stuff at .20 so I’m on .30. But it depends on the airplane. Some airplanes get a little weird at 0.20, like the TBM.

Cloud boxes are another thing, but it’s a happy trade.

Have you figured it out? Changing headsets is always a bit of a challenge at first. That Super should blow the Varjo away. I hated my OG for the first week or two; my G2 looked better initially, which is laughable to me now. I trusted @stekusteku to stick with it and get the kinks worked out.

Most of it came down to customizing the facial interface fit.

I’m running TAA with 45 FPS on the ground, 0.30 and top out at 58+ fps if I look at the airplane’s ceiling. I can’t run TAA at 0.50 and be happy. And the base frame rate around 45 fps is super stable. With DLSS I just see too many weird artifacts and jittery things.
